elfio, to privacy in SimpleX Chat v5.4 is released

I gave it a try but I think I’ll wait until I can use the same ID from both phone and PC.

NixDev, to linux in sigoden/argc-completions: Autocompletion for any shell and any command.

Have you used this? Is there any benefits over bash-completion?

Chewy7324,

I’ve not used it yet, but I found bash-completion to be lacking quite often. Completion is one reason I’m using fish atm.

But from the looks of it it’s exactly what bash/zsh is missing for me.

cashews_best_nut,

Have you tried ZShell? I’m consistently amazed at the number of great plugins that get made for it.

Chewy7324,

I’ve used zsh for it’s support for posix sh and have my config. But I find fish to be faster with the features I want and it has those features ootb.

Maybe I’ll give zsh another try.

radioactiveradio, to linux in Shadow Cast v0.6.1: GPU Accelerated Screen Recorder - Now with Wayland Support

Wow you’re fast, beautiful goofy picture guy.

Exactly this! They make windows unmanageable by the window manager and make the window look like a foreign object on the desktop.

thantik, (edited ) to linux in Today I discovered Garuda's BTRFS assistant and it's a total game changer.

Hopefully this assistant doesn’t kill its wife…

(I promise you this statement is related. It’s a little bit of history on BTRFS/ReiserFS though. BTRFS actually has support for in-place conversion from EXT and… ReiserFS, as it was kind of a competitor and the same engineers worked in ReiserFS)

joyjoy, to linux in Shoutout to fwupd for updating device firmware

Either it doesn’t support my mobo, or my mobo doesn’t support firmware updates from inside the OS. I had to update my mobo manually yesterday. At least I now get a clean boot without any irq handler warnings.

8osm3rka,

It’s more likely that your vendor doesn’t push updates for your mobo to LVFS

lemmy, to asklemmy in has anyone tried out lemmynade as a lemmy app?

Yeah giving me the logged in error too

lemmy,

Tho strangely as it says it it's letting me post

iamhazel, to asklemmy in has anyone tried out lemmynade as a lemmy app?
@iamhazel@beehaw.org avatar

Thanks for sharing! I like it so far, though I logged in but it was still saying I need to login before upvoting and commenting

SolemnAttic,

Im upvoted and replied to you from the app, so it does work. And it is looking real nice

BeeBitMyBottom,

Me too!

BeeBitMyBottom,

I am getting the same thing on certain instances, others, like this one, no issues

HolyFriedFish,

I couldn't upvote or comment until I added a lemmy.world account. Now it seems like I can upvote and comment from my Beehaw account? Definitely strange, but the app is clearly in development, so hopefully that's an issue that gets ironed out quickly.

lemann, to opensource in A fork of NewPipe that implements SponsorBlock and ReturnYouTubeDislike

Thank you for sharing 😁 just migrated my data over from Newpipe x SponsorBlock.

For anyone wondering how to:

In NewPipe x SponsorBlock go to Settings > Content > Export Database, save it, then open Tubular, go to Settings > Content > Import Database, click the ZIP, and it will import all your data from NewPipe (playlists, subs, watched videos, and settings)

exocrinous, to privacy in Privacy Concerns on Lemmy: A Call for More User Control

The admin of Blahaj is openly interested in exposing trans people’s alt accounts and outing them on their mains. And somehow it’s the biggest trans instance. We need a community and admin reaction in favour of defederating people who do that.

magnor,

Wait what? Do you have a source for this?

exocrinous,
magnor,
@magnor@lemmy.magnor.ovh avatar

I don’t see much proof. Did anyone corroborate?

exocrinous,

In order to show you proof I would have to help Ada in her attempts at doxxing, but I asked a friend who saw the whole thing to confirm.

magnor,
@magnor@lemmy.magnor.ovh avatar

I understand this is hard to prove without doxxing. This situation is very concerning, and if true absolutely disgusting.

What irritates me many times when I enter Lemmy is that instead of my Nick at the top right, someone else’s Nickname appears for a moment, before changing it to mine. This is a sign of an open account sharing channel, which is quite serious and should be fixed quickly. Security at Lemmy is apparently non-existent.

Sal,
@Sal@mander.xyz avatar

Do you see a random nickname from a stranger, or a nickname of an account that was previously logged into using the same computer?

What is an open account sharing channel?

Zerush, (edited )
@Zerush@lemmy.ml avatar

It occurres sometimes, I see a random nick from strangers. It means that my account obviously is públic and even shared. I will be attentive and I will try to take a screenshot, before the nickname changes to mine while Lemmy loads.

Sal,
@Sal@mander.xyz avatar

I will also pay close attention and see if I can catch that happening.

Zerush,
@Zerush@lemmy.ml avatar

It’s not easy to catch, because it’s only a moment when Lemmy loads and just sometimes. For now I always have my eyes to the top right corner when I enter Lemmy.

toastal, to privacy in Privacy Concerns on Lemmy: A Call for More User Control

If Lemmy cared about privacy, contributing source code & opening tickets would not require opening accounts with a for-profit, US-based, closed, prorietary service owned by a publicly-traded megacorporation that has shareholders to appease & a history (as well as current) record of EEE (embrace, extend, extinguish).

toastal,

I mean it took the code production of from workers for the Commons, packaged it up, & sold it back to the workers—often in violation of the license if not the spirit of free, ethical, or similar software. All AI generations should be CC0 / 0BSD licensed.

toastal,

Choosing proprietary tools and services for your free software project ultimately sends a message to downstream developers and users of your project that freedom of all users—developers included—is not a priority.

I strongly agree, I wrote a post on this type of privacy and why it matters, which I’ve dubbed “casual privacy”. coship.bloggi.co/casual-privacy

pull requests would work a lot better than blog posts.

morrowind,

It’s not smart to make a pull request before getting developers approval

node815, to selfhosted in Immich release v1.92.0 (edit: v1.92.1 hotfix released)

Constructively speaking, when I see this in almost every change log, it scares me away. :)

[BREAKING CHANGE]

But I will check it out sometime this week or next. :)

bdonvr,

It’s undergoing massive development, it basically went from nothing to nearly full featured in two years.

The breaking change just means you need to actually do something before updating. The software isn’t quite ready to be put on auto-update yet. Honestly the way the devs aren’t afraid to break things I think has contributed to the fast development.

Just be sure to keep a secondary backup of your photos which you should do either way.
