Shchedryk (Ukranian original version of Carol of the Bells) comes to mind. Folk rhymes better with their original tongue in general

themeatbridge, to privacy in How Do I Avoid Giving Home Address to Bank?

Do you have an address? Or are you moving around? A PO box is good for people who don’t stay in one place very long, but want to receive mail. Whether you can use that at the bank, the dmv, the IRS, or voting depends entirely upon which state you live in.

The book Bridge of Birds by Barry Hughart. Maybe everyone has a book that’s just perfect for them. This one is mine.

Apeman42, to baldurs_gate_3 in What's your favorite fight to use the Iron Flask? And what's the "best" fight to use it, and what's the most ridiculously unhinged situation to use it?
@Apeman42@lemmy.world avatar

Can you re-use the flask to catch something else afterward? I think I tried chucking the empty flask with no luck once, but maybe my target wasn’t actually extraplanar.

All of Sigur Ros. Makes me want to move to Iceland and be confused all day long.

captsneeze,

I loved Sigur Ros when they first broke the scene around 1999. I thought it was so beautiful, and angelic, and weirdly transcendent. I wondered what beautiful poetry was being sung in this mystical Icelandic language I did not speak. Then, I learned that it’s not Icelandic. It’s not anything. It’s a made up language that means nothing. It shouldn’t really bother me, but I felt like I had been tricked, and haven’t been able to get past it.

UPDATE

Booted to live and used gparted. had to fiddle with un-encrypting/re-encrypting the partitions in order to move everything around correctly, but everything was successful.

nothing ended up needing to be updated in boot. systemd-boot is so basic that so long as the uuids don’t change, then it don’t care.

All in all a good experience.

What you are likely referring to is a “nomad” residence. There are some states that allow this, such as Florida. There is a process to getting this status and you would want to do that before opening a new account in that state.

its_me_xiphos, to chat in how's your week going, Beehaw

Woke up. Got out of bed. Dragged a comb across my head…saw water damage in a room. Had a cup, noting I’d be late chugga chug chug Saw a pipe spraying water out my wall.

So I got that going for me, which is nice.

Otherwise, not too shabby. Thanks for sharing everyone and hope you have a good week this week. Remember, even when shit hits the fan there are still people that care about you. Even digital strangers with water shooting out of places water should not shoot from.

zzzz, to asklemmy in If reality wasn't wholly rational, could one ever come to terms with it, or would one rationalize it instead?

In fact, reality is not apparently basically rational. Why does anything exist at all? Surely, the trivial solution would be a simpler state of affairs. Why is existence not nothing forever? Why there exists anything instead of nothing (let alone you and me, in particular) does not stand to reason.

  • if the sun has set and my partner isn’t home from work (phone not connected to WiFi), turn the hallway light on
  • close the blinds when the sun sets, but only if the TV isn’t currently on so as not to make noise during a TV programme
  • when I turn the bedroom lamp on, turn the bedroom ceiling light off
  • if my front door opens when neither me nor my partner are home, send a snapshot of the doorbell camera to my notifications

Those info sites aren’t built from bank records. They’re built from public records databases like voters, property, taxes, legal cases, and government actions, including stuff like just showing up to the city council to complain.

You could conceivably open an account in another country where they’re very private about banking info, but it wouldn’t help your case, and it would probably be a huge hassle for your day to day life.

Sounds like instead of the whitepages, you’ll end up on an FBI list.

/s sorry for the non-answer…I dont really have any practicle advice beyond being careful you don’t end up suspected of criminal activity. Your privacy will really go down hill if the gov. is actually paying attention to you.
