LadyLikesSpiders, to asklemmy in If reality wasn't wholly rational, could one ever come to terms with it, or would one rationalize it instead?

Have you seen the world? Shit’s irrational as fuck. I’ll argue here that rationality has an aspect of subjectiveness to it; It is based on your ability to understand and perceive things. There is a very very small number of things you don’t know, and a practically infinite ocean of things you will never even know to not know. Even things that behave rationally may behave irrationally under some variables you will never even fathom, and so, to you, that would just be irrational

You wanna see something rational? Read fiction. Truth is always stranger than fiction. It was Mark Twain who added that “fiction has to make sense.”

NotSteve_, to asklemmy in What's a movie you don't really watch but your damn proud to have on your shelf?

I’ve got The Room on DVD that sits proudly on my shelf

possiblylinux127, to privacy in What is the community's opinion on Session and Session Automated Software?

Session is secure and has been audited to verify that. However, I do have concerns over the size and obscurity of Lokinet. I don’t know if that will ever change or not.

coaxil, to asklemmy in Which came first, the trash can or the trash panda?

The bin chicken, obviously! :)

MNByChoice, to selfhosted in Sanity check - is rsyncing to a remote computer that has zfs snapshotting an okay way to back things up?

Have you tried a restore? A non-differential smap snapshot should be fine, but differential snapshots would make a restore difficult to impossible.

A zfssend and zfsrestore with a differential snapshot would be more traditional. If one put mbuffer in the middle, it would even be fast.

A btrfs raid 1 array would make the most sense.

A Very Brady Sequel is genuenly one of my all time favorite movies. It’s completely unhinged.

Pandantic, to chat in To end capitalism we need to ignore it.
@Pandantic@midwest.social avatar

The best way, imo, is to put your cash money in people and businesses that support socialist ideals rather than capitalist ones. What you propose sounds like a utopian scenario, but until we can step out of paying money for things, we should do our best to keep it out of the hands of the bourgeois. And I want to emphasize that this includes the big banks that make money off of processing payments.

alphacyberranger, to manga in Okay, I've read Berserk, had cries and laughters, but vomited from the Gantz. What another manga should I read?
@alphacyberranger@lemmy.world avatar

Maybe try Dorohedoro

intensely_human, to asklemmy in When someone says "kiss my ass" does it refer to the hole or the cheek?

Well, normal ass-kissing is the cheek. A true brown-noser, though, takes it too far.

Namecheap, Namesilo, and Porkbun are the ones that people around here seem to like.

1995ToyotaCorolla, (edited ) to asklemmy in Have you ever seen coal burn? If yes, why?
@1995ToyotaCorolla@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t think I’ve ever seen coal burn, but you can find pieces of it along the abandoned railways and beaches in my area. We have a coal dock that’s been abandoned for 50 years and the ground is still black with coal dust

Edit: actually a scenic railroad in my area still has a coal fired steam locomotive so yes, I can say I’ve seen coal burn!
