My brother and I were kids during the end of the Cold War and definitely got this one. But my dad was a gallows humor type who claimed he’d run toward the mushroom clubs if it ever happened, better to end it quick.

Maybe as the world has leaned in even harder on the absurd, that the Far Side absurdity doesn’t land anymore. Or it could be that we’re all older and realize how absurd the rest of reality is. Sorta like how The Onion has to hit pretty hard now to manage satire in the last 8-10 years.

Really though if you wash hands after handling it, and use it in such small hobby scale quantities as most, it won’t matter. The smoke from the burning rosin is probably more dangerous.

Yeah, I’m confused. Depo-Provera is a contraceptive that needs to be administered every 3 months to prevent pregnancy. And it doesn’t end a pregnancy, it’s been deemed safe for pregnant women and women who (unlikely but possibly) become pregnant after an injection.

It also may help prevent some cancers of the reproductive tract.

Skeptical of the guardians article or the message that people are taking from it.

Yeah and 7watts at 120 volts is only around 60mA. To get to a standard home circuit’s 15 amps (15,000mA) would take 250 LED strings. There may be some inrush current, but not of there are resistors in the led sets (every set I own has em).

Yeah, I wonder if anyone makes a UL listed 15A receptacle that don’t have a safety factor well over 20A.

What it really comes down to though, is as long as code allows it, your ok.

Unless it was just urban legend, VHS supposedly won out over Betamax because there was more porn available. It was the first “killer app” and helped make early rental stores profitable.

And similar things happened with all forms of the internet: Gopher, BBS (though maybe less so, it was before my time and so bandwidth limited), Hotline, the original cam girls and blogs.

It’s just porn, all the way down. That’s why it’s called the oldest profession.

The result of VHS’s open system still enabled porn to show up on it sooner. And that helped more dudes want to drop $1-2k on a VCR.

Beta_cam_ did live on as a TV video format, I used one in high school and our local cable access still ran on betacam S in the late 90s.

It was the same sized tape as Betamax, but ran at a much higher speed for better quality (more info per inch of tape), they even switched to digital at some point, but I’d move on to MiniDV in college by then.

I posted these ones I found at the ski area I worked at 8 years ago. I wish they were a joke but some fucking moron had made these and used them on the trees in front of the lodge. In piles of snow too.

Tower is pretty nice for mac user too. I paid for it for a few versions back when I was coding full time. Now I just stuck to source tree for occasional freelance and personal projects.

Just get a salaried job, where you can still get paid while not working, in exchange for working 70 hour weeks (30 hours for free) when an impossible deadline is set.

I would have gamed it at my last web dev job. Take a nice 3-4 week vacation before a Big Crunch and then get hourly and overtime when it counts.

It’s tricky to stop at the right point, because lithium iron only have a very small voltage increase between like 40% and 90% and they ramp up to full voltage right near the limit of their capacity.
