JWBananas, in Reddit blocks /r/spezresign on mobile browser
@JWBananas@kbin.social avatar

That's the message they show when a sub doesn't have moderators (or possibly if the moderators have not been active).

muftiboy,

except the mod is active and posts regularly on r/spezresign. the sub was founded by u/StanIsBread, here are some of his recent posts on r/spezresign

https://old.reddit.com/r/spezresign/comments/14fl7qr/subreddits_forcefully_reopening/
https://old.reddit.com/r/spezresign/comments/14655kz/reddit_going_downhill/
https://old.reddit.com/r/spezresign/comments/148jvbk/subreddits_going_private/

the sub is 18 days old, are you joking about inactive mods or what

Gamers_Mate,

Interesting lets see how long till this sub gets banned. I am willing to bet Spez will not let this sub exist as long as he let a certain sub with bait in the name exist.

exohuman,
@exohuman@kbin.social avatar

I could see them removing the creator and moderators for that sub.

Methylman, in Overwriting Comments w/ AI Output Is the Quickest Way to Make Reddit's Data Useless to LLM Firms

As we are on the eve of rexxit - Is there a "best" way to sabotage our posts?

I suppose I see two ways of achieving this - 1) a single AI-response that we edit all posts with; or 2) actually using an AI to "reply", as in different posts which emulate the answers a human would provide but generated by AI

Imo, route 2 would be more time-consuming but harder to 'prevent' from degrading the dataset from reddit's perspective?

HandsHurtLoL,

I used a free download called Redact to go through all my comments on June 11 and replace with AI language garbage. I did not delete submissions at this time, however, though that is an option in Redact. This process took almost 4 hours because I had two 11+ year old accounts.

Because I started this late at night and am in a specific time zone, a few of the subs I commented in the most had gone dark (midnight of June 12) and my comments could not be edited on my SFW account. In doing this, I was permabanned from several subreddits on my NSFW account.

Today, I opened Redact again to see if I could alter comments/remove submissions on my account that had the most subs go dark. Redact wouldn't even run for my SFW account so I logged in to reddit directly and saw a message that my account had been deactivated, which is why I think Redact was throwing me errors. I manually deleted all my submissions from both my accounts and manually deleted any comments that were original language from me.

I left up the AI edited comments and then deleted both my accounts.

I might be a spiteful fucker, but I am going to wait for the API changes. Then use a VM based AutoGUI bot to randomly scramble stuff up, putting nice load on the site, all the while acting like a "real" person. Good luck restoring/countering that bitchboy spez!

Mwahahaha

Cube6392, in Reddit feels like it's gone back to 100% normalcy already. Was the protest a failure?
@Cube6392@beehaw.org avatar

This is still a developing migration. There are new active users on the threadiverse that weren't there before. The threadiverse has reached a form of critical mass where if people stick around, they can still have an enjoyable social experience without revisiting Reddit. If Reddit continues to exist, that's fine, I guess. I can't control what other people do. The important thing to me is that things that aren't Reddit are becoming viable in ways they were not before. We don't rely on this tech company anymore, we rely on ourselves.

Further, I predict that while traffic is stabilizing back to pre-protest days, that quality will continue to decline. It's not going to be instant that Reddit dies. It's a slow, steady, crawl into the grave for them

African_Grey,
@African_Grey@beehaw.org avatar

I'm kind of torn on this. On one hand, yes reddit sucks, but on the other hand it's an extremely search friendly source of information. Does Lemmy even play nice with search engines? The one good thing I can say about a centralized community like reddit is everything is there and easily accessible. Whenever I search for something I need a quick informed answer on I already prefix it with "Reddit."

chgowiz,
@chgowiz@kbin.social avatar

It's a good search target for what has happened up to 12 Jun 23... after that? I can go incognito to reddit, get what I need then come back to here and continue using this as a resource and share what I've got.

phi1997,

Is connection between that instance and kbin working again?

Gorejelly,
@Gorejelly@kbin.social avatar

Apologies if this is stupid or should be obvious (I’m very new to Kbin/Lemmy). IIRC, I just paste that link into any kbin or lemmy search, correct? I tried doing that but I just get 505 errors every time…

Silviecat44, in r/ZeroWaste mod talks about ongoing "plague of bots" spamming comments at an extremely high rate

Temu is such a scummy website

WhiteOakBayou,

Why? People in my life keep telling me to shop there but it seems like aliex or dhgate stuff they end up showing me.

The mods should have let the bots flood Reddit instead of a blackout.

Madison_rogue,
@Madison_rogue@kbin.social avatar

Isn't that going to happen anyways if Reddit doesn't supply better mod tools by midnight tomorrow?

Countmacula,
@Countmacula@kbin.social avatar

Yeah, unfortunately.

fun4stuff, in r/ZeroWaste mod talks about ongoing "plague of bots" spamming comments at an extremely high rate

The mods are as bad as the bots. Hopefully the bad ones quit come July 1. But i doubt those neck beards have much else to do.

Entropywins,
@Entropywins@kbin.social avatar

I'd been a reddit user since 09 or 10 and never once had a bad interaction with a mod... I don't understand all the hate. Yes I'm sure some aren't the nicest but I'd wager most are good folk managing communities with the good intentions.

Noxvento,
@Noxvento@lemmy.world avatar

Maybe only users with bad behaviour have problems with mods and complain about it all the time. Similar to the police in real life.

metaStatic,

Think about when the average person ever has cause to interact with large community mods. There's your answer.

smitten,

Had a couple bad experiences with the r/Linux mods, but other than that most of them are fine. I think users don’t really grasp what mods do, and the amount of internet sewage they have to sift through. And when they’re doing a good job, the users don’t notice it in the first place.

I'm still enjoying a few of the smaller niche subreddits I'm subscribed to. And worldnews' live thread about the Ukraine war is still good. Otherwise I'm not really engaging any more, and once those niche subreddits start winking out over time I'll probably stop. Or they remove old.reddit.
