R9442, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

Only when searching about a particular topic or problem, whether I’m looking something up in a game or just troubleshooting.

Otherwise nothing, no account nor any browsing.

ThreatLevelMidnight, in Have you ever had Detroit-style pizza?

Client of mine took me to a place north of the airport that had pizza and wings and it was really good. I couldn’t believe I hadn’t had Detroit style before. I think it was Buddys, but can’t be sure.

learningduck, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

I still use it for dinner subs that moved over to lemmy, but couldn’t grow much. Like 40klore.

Ubettawerk, in Have you ever had Detroit-style pizza?

Yes, it’s great and I enjoy it more than flatbread or thin crust. My fave is from Patxi’s in Santa Barbara, CA

I like them both for different reasons and depending in what I’m in the mood for.

sxan, in In which game did you spend the most hours?
@sxan@midwest.social avatar

What, recently?

Historically, Destiny or Borderlands, probably the latter. But lately, I’m spending all of my time in Factorio.

I haven’t looked at the hours stat; it’d probably only depress me.

GeekFTW, in In which game did you spend the most hours?

1056h in Team Fortress 2, which is the highest I can verify at least. I'm sure I've put more time in Sims 4 over the decade but with multiple installs of pirated copies I have no way to verify that lol

I’m surprised I had to scroll down this far to see someone else mention TF2. I clock in at around 2019 hours, although probably around 500-600 of those are from idling (remember idling?!)

Last time I played was in 2019, and last time I played before that was also a couple of years. But for a while, Team Fortress 2 was my life. I eventually got into surfing, and poured SO many hours into that across TF2 and later CS:S.

If anyone who used to frequent Omega Arcade’s surf server on TF2 ends up reading this, Mr. Asplundh says hi! ☺️

jimmux, in What would you call a monarchist government where multiple families rules in turns?

Musical heirs.

gimbels, in Have you ever had Detroit-style pizza?

Descendant on Queen East if you’re in Toronto.

I wish I could remember the place my Chicagoan friend took me to but it was great. In my area on the east coast we have a chain called Pizzeria Uno which has a reasonable facsimile of Chicago deep dish. But nothing beats Chi-town’s sourdough deep dish pizza!

kvn,

I love both Chicago style and Detroit style and they are not the same thing. Detroit style has a lot of breadiness to the crust where Chicago is like a denser crust. And detroit is typically rectangular with toppings all the way to the edge. There isn’t really a proper crust to grab.

TheCelticPirate,

Chicago deep dish is just cheese in a bread bowl. Detroit style is so much better.

I totally forgot about Detroit-style. It’s good too!

Yes, but a lot less. I unsubscribed from everything except some niche communities that are inactive/nonexistent on Lemmy, plus a few related to the Fediverse.

But the loss of Rif means I’m using it a lot less anyway.

s_s, (edited ) in What would you call a monarchist government where multiple families rules in turns?

So a monarch that can’t appoint their own heir really isn’t much of a monarch. The point of being a monarch is not being beholden to any rules.

This is just an oligarchy with rules that don’t benefit 3/4th of the participants–which is as odd as it sounds.

After all, the point of 4-5 year terms in modern democracies is that you don’t have to wait your whole life to take over.

It’s an interesting concept, but coming to this arangement–and maintaining it in perpetuity–must have been an extremely extrordinary set of circumstances.

Is the monarch required to be sacrificed every so often? That would kinda mimic the Aztec Festival of Toxcatl, where an impersonator of the god Tezcatlipoca was sacrificed every year after being treated like a god for the year. The god-man was usually selected from royal families. He had religous function and was provided for in specific ways (eg a harem) but he wasn’t a monarch.

It was. I don’t want to spoil my own lore, but this is the solution they found to prevent mutual extermination through civil wars.

You may want to read up about the Roman Empire’s experiment with tetrarchy (rule by four emperors), which was in part an attempt to prevent civil wars.

That’s only for absolute monarchies, though.

Jajcus,

Not really. Absolute monarchy is not the only kind of monarchy. There are also constitutional monarchies and various in-between. Even absolute monarchies usually are defined by some rules (e.g. succession of power in hereditary monarchies).

m_randall, in Can lemmy be used as a blog (with comment section)?

Holy Necro….since I’m here tho I think kbin is more set up with this. It has a microblog section although I haven’t really explored it.

achance4cheese, in What goes good with American Cheese?

I don’t care if I just eat it plain. Cheese is cheese!
