yads, in What's your real-life superpower?

I have an uncanny ability to figure out the optimal size container to use to store leftovers. Kneel before my power!

AverageCakeSlice,

He is the chosen one!

million,
@million@lemmy.world avatar

I am your nemesis, I inevitably dirty several containers trying to find the right size.

We can fight when I am done doing the dishes.

yads,

Lol, my wife just ends up using an obscenely large container for the tiniest bit of left overs.

Scott,
@Scott@kbin.social avatar

But can you find the correct lid to that Tupperware?

CylonBunny, in do you have multiple lemmy accounts in different instances. why?
@CylonBunny@lemmy.world avatar

I thought everyone had a SFW account and a NSFW account…

NiTRo_SvK,

this is the way

kiddblur, in What are some ways Lemmy could be destabilized?

I’ve already seen number 1 happen. I’ve had a completely unacceptable amount of non-nsfw tagged porn hit my front page being posted to various Lemmy.world communities, all by shitjustworks users. I’m getting pretty close to abandoning the platform myself because I don’t need that shit coming up on my phone when I’m just trying to browse

Edit: that said, I’m not going back to Reddit. I’ll just abandon this type of site altogether and spend more meaningful time with my family and read more books

everythingsucks,

Really, all that shows up on my all feed is memes. Old. Memes.

ratboy, (edited ) in what band/song are you kinda ashamed you listening to as a kid?
@ratboy@lemmy.ml avatar

Well it used to be slipknot/KoRn/Limp Bizkit etc etc, but now nu metal is cool with all the zoomers, so I’m no longer embarrassed of being a nu metal kid. It’s been pretty cool to reconnect with that stuff without fear! Tbh there are a lot of KoRn tracks that slap, and you can hear their influence in a lot of the underground metal music I listen to. The band chat pile that’s pretty popular right now cites KoRn as an influence. Limp Bizkit is still preeeeeetty fuckin bad though. I fuck with some tracks off of 3 Dollar Bill Y’all$, but so much of it is just corny as hell. System of a Down was always considered dope so they don’t count

lackthought,
@lackthought@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

KoRn was my favorite band as a teen!

still enjoy their music even though I don’t seek out nu-metal as much as I used to

ARE YOU READY??!!

ratboy,
@ratboy@lemmy.ml avatar

Hahaha Ive had Blind stuck in my head for like 3 days. I stopped listening to them when I was still in highschool but have dabbled in the past year or two and it’s such a good nostalgia hit

HobbitFoot,

Outside of Limp Bizkit, it isn’t all that bad.

Even with Limp Bizkit, you just have to accept that they are angry brats.

LilBiFurious,
@LilBiFurious@lemmy.world avatar

Chat Pile has been my newest obsession! Hope to catch their show sometime soon

ratboy,
@ratboy@lemmy.ml avatar

I got to see them perform with Lingua Ignota, weirdest combo ever.

andrew,

Loved this stuff back in the day as well. I still do. I got to see Slipknot live at a festival a few years back and they put on one of the more impressive shows I’ve seen.

ratboy,
@ratboy@lemmy.ml avatar

Nice, good to know they’ve still got it. I got to see them once waaaay back, like 2004 or something for the Subliminal Verses tour I believe.

LeylaaLovee,
@LeylaaLovee@lemmy.fmhy.ml avatar

NuMetal may be cool among my generation, but Limp Bizkit has never been cool. They’re impressive in how uncool they manage to make everything look

ratboy,
@ratboy@lemmy.ml avatar

Hahaha damn you roasted them so hard. True I guess I don’t see too many people repping them, I just know they played Madison Square Garden with Scowl, though, so I assumed it’s what you whippersnappers are into

ThisIsNecessary,

I just saw Korn live for the first time last year and it was a great show. They played a lot of their old stuff and really made me appreciate some of the early albums again. Don’t care for their new music much, but then again and don’t like most new music. I prefer stuff I already know. Must be an age thing.

AceFuzzLord, in what band/song are you kinda ashamed you listening to as a kid?

Definitely Smash Mouth (All Star and that one that goes "and then I saw here face, now I’m a believer)

Also that “Oops I farted again” song. Real cringe.

Same with when I used to watch Shane Dawson music video parodies.

HobbitFoot,

Smash Mouth is a weird band as they were the last alive of their sound, and they just kept going.

scubbo,

“I’m A Believer” was originally by The Monkees - and both it and All Star are still great songs!

Caboose20, in [SERIOUS] How do you do figure out what job you want after high school?

I always liked the idea of going to a college that had a program with a work term so you can see if you like it and also get some experience. I would say talk to some people in areas that you are interested in and see if you find any jobs you may look doing.

Alter_Id, in The new Reddits
@Alter_Id@kbin.social avatar

My impression of squabbles after a while was more "feigned whimsy reddit". The people who loved the quirky snu aspect of reddit found their way there. "Oh look, he's wearing a box on his head with a face hole cut out! Ha ha!" - "He's holding a plate with a piece of birthday cake in one hand and a saxophone in the other! What a whacky character!!!" - "He's piloting a rocket ship! Space is amAAAAAzing!!!"

The dev seemed like he was impressively dedicated to improving the platform, but I didn't jive with what I perceived at the time to be the emerging culture there. Nothing offensive about it, but that's not at all what I'm looking for really. I haven't been there any type of regularly for a couple weeks, so not sure if that's still a thing.

Also, I don't pay strict attention to what instances they're coming from, but I've blocked many communities throughout the fediverse that spam memes like they're running out of time or something. I don't think squabbles exclusively lays claim to that type of behavior.

Just my opinion.

fgil, in Anyone else missing posts in smaller Lemmy communities because they are overshadowed by the popular ones?

There’s currently a PR for a different sort that would kinda of address this issue.

github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/pull/3378

MentalEdge,
@MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz avatar

This seems ideal. I hope it makes it in soon.

giant_smeeg,

Aslong as it hides posts that are old from a less active community.

I don’t need a 14day old post popping up on the front page all the time

maegul,
@maegul@lemmy.ml avatar

Wow. I’m kinda impressed that that’s already in the works.

I’m rather pleased with how many developers have gotten involved with the project. Looks like the work might not be finished yet on this feature, but it’s definitely on its way!

deweydecibel,

After the stability issues with Lemmy were addressed (and they have been, for the most part…) the next thing that needed a revamp was content aggregation. It’s too stale. It’s no wonder they’re pilling on to address it.

IIRC it took quite a while for Reddit to find an algorithm that worked, and it constantly needs tweaking. It will here, as well.

Stefh, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?
@Stefh@programming.dev avatar

I deleted my profile, but of course I still land there sometimes from Google results

Nikki, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?
@Nikki@lemmy.world avatar

boost for reddit has become unusable, many subs i frequent are still blackout. i have no real use for reddit any more, ill use the web client for google results when the sub i need isnt gone

this has done wonders for my social media addiction, more tjme spent with my friends on discord rather than doomscrolling reddit

cwagner, in Have you had any bad experiences with people on Lemmy?

Bigotry? Not yet. Toxicity? Quite a bit.

The first big example was the reaction of quite a few people when beehaw defederated shitjustworks and lemmy.world, people called beehaw users and their admins all kind of names, sometimes even in communities and by users who were not on either instance.

Then Threads. There are a lot of users who think people who don’t agree with everyone defederating Threads before they even support federation are barely even human, and anyone who questions it, will be called all kinds of names. Just pointing that out gets you downvoted.

Then there are the usual people who can’t handle other people having different opinions/experiences, I recently had to defend that my Reddit experience (when I use it which is very rare now) is barely different from before, and no, it did not turn to shit and no, it’s not full of bots, and no, the quality of discussion is still high because I curated my subs.

On Reddit, I would unsub from communities behaving like that (e.g. I decided to leave /r/Fantasy when I realized that not hating Rings of Power or the WoT show is not behaviour the sub deems acceptable), on Lemmy, communities don’t have enough of an identity for that yet, so for now I just block some users.

myrrh,

Gotcha. I haven’t been in the loop with beehaw and shitjustworks and everything like that, but I could picture that kind of drama happening.

The Threads stuff is also hella wack, people seem to have a ton of heavy opinions about it.

I do think the ability to filter different communities and stuff out is really valuable. I’ve had a few friends who (understandably) had pretty negative opinions on Reddit long before the API stuff, but I think a big part that they missed is how easily you could curate your Reddit feed, which made my experience much better. I did delete my Reddit account, but I wouldn’t find it unreasonable to believe that Reddit’s fairly the same way it was before the protest since lots of people still stick around and are just casual users who don’t care too much (and I don’t really blame them haha).

spaduf,
@spaduf@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I wonder how your experience differs from mine, being on an instance with no downvotes.

cwagner,

Not hugely, I think. A lot of it was actual comments.

But seeing as I’m on my own single-user instance, I might disable them at some point just to see ;)

0xeb, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

I don’t. Since the beginning of this month, I only visited it 2 times where a Google search pointed out a post there, that is it. And even when it pop ups on the Google search result I tend to first check out other links.

HipPriest, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

Maybe 2 or 3 times a week. There's some support communities on there that I'm a part of and check in with on there.

But learning about Reddit's behaviour the last month or so has been something of an eye opener and for now I'm enjoying exploring here (and actually reading ebooks again) as an alternative

paulallen, in Anyone else missing posts in smaller Lemmy communities because they are overshadowed by the popular ones?

I had to unfollow ”politics” because it took over my entire homepage. It’s a bummer because the I like seeing the occasional political post. I’m guessing they drive more engagement and that’s why they’re so ”loud”.

buckykat, in What would you call a monarchist government where multiple families rules in turns?

A recipe for frequent civil wars
