kryllic, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?
@kryllic@programming.dev avatar

Working out is about discipline, not pleasure imo. I’m sure there are some folks who really enjoy working out, but for most of the general public, it’s about sticking to a routine and seeing yourself improve, regardless of how it makes you feel

TurtleJoe,
@TurtleJoe@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve been lifting about a year, and for me there is a big satisfaction in improvement, especially when I can break through a plateau that I’ve been stuck on.

There are also some lifts that a really enjoy while I’m doing them, whereas others feel more like a chore.

LemmyStartNow, in What's the best Android/iPhone app for Lemmy?

Been using Liftoff and I’m enjoying it so far, after using/trying Thunder, Jerboa, Wefwef, lemmotif

ShoePaste,
@ShoePaste@lemmy.ml avatar

Also really liking liftoff. Tried a bunch of others and it honestly just works so much better than the others. Waiting for boost for lemmy though.

Corr,

Really like Liftoff myself as well!

lauha,

I also ended up using liftoff for now, but only today I realised that it apparently does not do notifications??

Please tell me I am wrong.

Corr,

They plan on adding notifications in the near future, in case you were still curious

lauha,

Definitely am. Thank you for answering!

Corr,

No worries! Would love to see more people join Liftoff!

I like the way I feel after a workout. That’s enough motivation for me to do cardio and lift.

Aurenkin, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

I had to drag myself out of the house for strength training once a week at first. It took a while but I actually started enjoying it to the point that I go to the gym almost every day now. I think it helps a lot that the gym is like a 2 minute walk though.

VioletteRei,
@VioletteRei@lemmy.world avatar

I think that’s the problem for me. The closest gym from me is 1 hour of car away, and for other sports you can forget about it

AceFuzzLord, in What's a good way to prank your coworker?

I am not sure this works anymore or if it ever did since I heard about it years ago, but when you send an email to someone on something like gmail who doesn’t use some form of adblocker, be sure to put some hidden text in whatever color the background of their client is. Apparently they’ll eventually start seeing ads for that specific thing you hid in the email since those emails are most certainly scanned so you can get targeted ads (especially gmail and most likely outlook as well).

peter,
@peter@feddit.uk avatar

You probably need to receive more than one email about a subject before you start getting targeted ads

AceFuzzLord,

Forgot to mention the part about it being something you need to constantly do. Thanks for the heads up.

Starb3an, in What's a quote that has stuck with you for your whole life?

Not my circus, not my monkeys. Let go or get dragged.

I heard them from my mom who went to Al Anon (I was in alcoholics anonymous). The first one is don’t make other people’s problems your problems. The second relates to letting people make their own mistakes. They’re the greatest teacher

SlovenianSocket, in What's a good way to prank your coworker?
@SlovenianSocket@lemmy.ca avatar

Hit my boss with tellyourpartner.org earlier this week, a website that anonymously texts your partner with a list of STIs you select and a suggestion to get tested. Be careful tho it kinda back fired and he messaged a few of his exes lmao

chickenf622,

That’s a horrible thing to do to someone

SlovenianSocket,
@SlovenianSocket@lemmy.ca avatar

That’s construction for ya. The pranks can be ruthless

exapsy, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

Yep. Especially after the training it’s like “yeah man I did it”.

Also, it’s all about consistency. Perfectionism is the enemy of consistency. Don’t be a perfectionist. Just be consistent and soon you’ll see results.

Like I see some people who just started working out and do as many push-ups or any other excercise with as many reps as they possibly can and after they’re exhausted.

That’s wrong. These people think that if you don’t do 100 pushups first day you’re a failure.

No, do even one push up. It’s more that 0. Then do 2, then 5, then 10, then 5 again coz you don’t feel like it today.

Like don’t starve for perfectionism. Just be consistent and you’ll actually get to enjoy working out. It’s a great way to clear your mind, have a healthy body, build muscles, better body chemistry and less diseases etc. Be consistent, not perfect. And avoid guys who make you feel you’re not doing enough. These guys will make you feel like every exercise should be perfect or with the highest reps possible or smth.

LeadSoldier,

You are speaking to my soul. I’m the type of guy that prints out a blank spreadsheet to track my workouts. I’m also the type that doesn’t go to the gym. Lol. I need to just start showing up.

camr_on,
@camr_on@lemmy.world avatar

If you can convince yourself to just get there it’s half the battle. That’s what I keep telling myself

smallpanther, in What password manager do you recommend?

I’ve been using Google’s password manager mainly for convenience but had been looking to switch for a while, this thread made up my mind to switch to Bitwarden!

Trapping5341,

Made the same switch in October last year. Glad I made the switch. My work phone is an iphone and I don’t generally use personal things on there but I do sometimes and being able to just login to bitwarden and sign into all my stuff is great. At first the switch sucks because my god did I personally have so many accounts but as you go it gets easier and easier. I recommend it to everyone and generally just get weird looks lol

NakariLexfortaine, in What's a quote that has stuck with you for your whole life?

“HAPPINESS, FREE, FOR EVERYONE, AND LET NO ONE BE FORGOTTEN!!” - Red, The Roadside Picnic

An impossible wish, yet one that burned itself into my heart the moment I read it, and a quote that has kept me walking.

anaximander, (edited ) in given how little one vote matter, it seems to me that stripping felons of their right to vote is both petty and counterproductive if the point was to reform them into civic minded individuals ?

If people who break laws can’t vote, and the government decides what the law is and appoints the judges who enforce those laws, then the government currently in power can decide who gets to vote. Obviously there’s an incentive there to make laws that disproportionately affect those who weren’t going to vote for you, and thereby remove most of your opposition’s votes. That way lies dictatorship.

It also makes it hard to change bad laws. For a random example, there used to be laws against homosexuality. How do you think LGBT acceptance in law would be doing if anyone who was openly gay or trans lost their right to vote? How do you improve access to abortion if anyone who has an abortion, provides an abortion, teaches young people about abortion, or seeks information about abortions becomes unable to vote? How do you change any unjust law if the only people who can vote are those who are unaffected - or indeed, those who benefit from the status quo?

Sage_the_Lawyer,

See, e.g., the war on “drugs”

The GOP has been working towards making the US a dictatorship since the 60s. We passed the civil rights act and the right was so appalled that they had to treat people of color like, well, people, that they’ve been coming up with new ways to ensure progress never happens again ever since.

nickajeglin,

Preach.

HomesliceAbe, in given how little one vote matter, it seems to me that stripping felons of their right to vote is both petty and counterproductive if the point was to reform them into civic minded individuals ?

I’ve never understood this. What’re they gonna do? Vote to make crimes legal?

Anders429, in Is there an efficient way to search for lemmy instances based on their rules?

I love how you didn’t even read the sidebar of this community and just posted whatever you wanted anyway.

kuroyousei,

You are the second person who has commented something similar. I’m not asking about the mechanics of the search mechanism, I’m asking for suggestions. Its pretty easy to understand the implication with the way I worded the question.
