Prefix, in What are the best fediverse alternatives to youtube?

I’m really curious to see if any of these options can pan out long-term. It’s extremely expensive to host video, and it seems like it could be a real challenge for federated video hosting to take off at scale. I’m hopeful!

spitz, in What's the hottest and coldest temperature you've ever been in?
@spitz@lemmy.ml avatar

Coldest: -30°C.

Hottest: 52°C.

ZuckerbergIsCancer, in I'm being harassed by mosquitoes, how do i kill them all?

I’ve started using citronella soap when I shower.

TechnoBabble,

I don’t think citronella actually does anything.

Daddyo, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

I hate working out because it’s super boring. Like just standing there, not moving and just lifting weights… Or running in a circle on a track… Or even cycling with no where to go. It all seems pointless. However lately I have been rock climbing, specifically bouldering. It’s everything I want in working out. Problem solving, working my body in weird ways, and it’s very acceptable to socialize while you do it. After, my body is screaming at me, but I had a great time so it’s good!

blujan, in What's the hottest and coldest temperature you've ever been in?

I think coldest was -18°C during the coldest winter we’ve had, curiously it didn’t even feel that cold when walking outside but that might be because there was no wind and you started feeling the coldness inside you instead of outside.

Hottest is I believe around 40°C but that one’s not as crazy so I’m not really sure of the actual figure, probably higher or lower by a small amount of degrees.

LachlanUnchained, (edited ) in Who is the third faction in the leaked Google memo about AI?

Meta. They are smashing it with small customisable, specialised models.

Listen to the latest lex fridman podcast with zuck. I found it quite fascinating.

And then there’s worrying about not wearing the same thing twice. My god! Don’t know how you do it.

Schmu, in What's the hottest and coldest temperature you've ever been in?

Hottest 43°C. Coldest somewhere around -20°C.

CoreyRDean, in What are some of the most federated Lemmy instances?

Who has defederated us that you know of? As far as big instances go I believe we are one of the better federated.

janNatan,

It’s more about who the instance blocks, and there’s quite a few on the block list. Maybe I wanna watch porn or chat up a tankie.

Bishma, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?
@Bishma@social.fossware.space avatar

I don’t. I think post workout endorphins are a myth spread to make maintenance on our meat mechs seem more palatable. I “like” to swim, in so much as the water continuously washes the sweat off while I work out.

Onyx boox uses e-ink and Android. Its a winning combination.

Imgur purge is actively happening. Safe to say we will be in that era soon enough, give or take 2 years optimistically. Being pessimistic, 1 year. To bring even more depression, during this year, in realtime right now, content is being purged at a rate where you will be lucky if you manage to salvage all that you need to.

We are in the most turbulent era of internet that we might ever see, before the AI age dawns upon us. Grab a couple 4 TB Seagate HDDs and save anything you need to. Movies, documentaries, songs, obscure YouTube videos, photo galleries, game ROMs, webpages, documents… anything. Ham that internet connection with whatever freerange VPN you can.

Wojwo,

Is there a good /r/DataHoarder equivalent on Lemmy somewhere?

TheAnonymouseJoker,
@TheAnonymouseJoker@lemmy.ml avatar

Rely on r/datahoarder for now. Data hoarders and pirates are universally an uncompromised group of internet.

dessalines,

You should invite them to create a community here, or we can give them !datahoarder .

TheAnonymouseJoker,
@TheAnonymouseJoker@lemmy.ml avatar

I am hurrying up as much as I can, and also being a Lemmy watchdog to see the instances popping up and user traffic. I will try getting them onboard.

dessalines,

Sweet, thx.

ghostwolf, in Does the reddit style format breed toxicity?

During my time on reddit, I’ve learnt to appreciate downvotes. Silent feedback is much better than passive-aggressive replies that serve no purpose other than letting the person vent out.

Joe_0237,

idk, it sounds good, but to me its a lot like getting a grade with no comments (for the sake of example)

stealth_cookies,

Most of the time the downvotes I would get on Reddit are on topics where I disagreed with a couple of the early people and they downvoted. This would cause a cascade of people piling on. Other times I could make essentially the same comment and get lots of upvotes.

Not a big deal either way, it is boring to always be aligned with everyone else as long as you are open to constructive discussions about it.

Jellojiggle,

I got majorly downvoted once for sharing my opinion on not wanting to travel to a foreign country alone as a woman. A lot of flippant comments too. Like okay, this is not the sub for me. I still can’t believe I was attacked like I was.

iPad and Apple Pencil will probably be the most versatile. It’s what I’m using now though I wish there’s a “simple” mode on iPad where I can just use it as a notepad/e-reader and nothing else.
