Candelestine, in What are some of the most federated Lemmy instances?

tbf they’re pretty much all federated with each other still, there’s not a whole ton of exceptions. You’ve got the fascist and tankie kids, they’re defederated a good bit, and Beehaw defederated the two other big ones, due to bot accts if I remember right.

Basically anything asides world, ml (i think?), beehaw, lemmygrad or explodingheads.

You can google lemmymap, and you’ll get a visual representation that shows blocks. There’s also a couple websites that’ll give the info more accessibly, but I don’t recall them. Someone else will prob share one.

can,

Beehaw initially couldn’t handle the influx of unvetted users with 4 admins so they defederated. It was early days. We may be refederated in the future.

mp3, in What butterfly effect have you personally witnessed?
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

The classic small business trying to save some pennies by cheaping out on the important stuff like backups, despite several attempts at reasoning them, by ultimately ending up crumbling after a system failure.

NegentropicBoy, in What butterfly effect have you personally witnessed?

A hot dry windy day in summer, this guy rings my friend to complain about my friend parking near his house. My friend goes over to talk it over and notices a transformer is sparking onto dry grass, alerts fire people, saves town.

southsamurai, in How many accounts do you have, and how do you manage them?
@southsamurai@sh.itjust.works avatar

Ummm, I’m not sure?

Back on reddit, I had two main, my author account, and a novelty account. Wanted to keep things simple. One main for browsing, another for moderation. The author account for self promotion and such. The novelty account was for the joy of entering a simple little phrase whenever discworld would come up.

Sadly, for some reason, my textpand doesn’t work in lemmy apps, and I haven’t typed out the formatting for it in ages. But it was a version of foul old ron and used one of his gibberish phrases along with the clacks overhead the sir Pterry

But, I had tried lemmy out a bit last year or the year before, and had deleted those accounts. I have the two user names I used most on reddit registered at a couple pf instances, plus a handful of others for redundancy, my author account, and three accounts that are actually my cousin’s, but he isn’t using regularly that I’m subscribing to things I know he likes.

I’ve kinda lost track tbh. I have them all in my bitwarden though, but I only keep one or two logged into any given app, so I don’t have them all in one place without messing with BW

But at least a dozen.

jossbo,

I love Discworld!

By which I mean, what was the phrase?

Papanca, in What are these comments on lemmy posts?

A few minutes ago Ruud posted that there was a hack, i wonder if it has something to do with that?

lemmy.world/post/1290412

loutr,
@loutr@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yes, these comments are JavaScript code, intended to run in the browser of anyone viewing them. Best to stay clear of the webapp for now (native mobile apps should not be vulnerable).

Veltoss, in What is something you think leftists are not ready to hear but need to hear it?

Is this definition of “leftists” widely accepted? I always thought that word was just another word for liberal or anyone who isn’t right wing these days.

irmoz,

Liberals are right wing.

Veltoss,

But this is not at all how the vast majority of people use the terms. In a time where people can barely communicate as it is, at what point is it harmful to stick to definitions barely anyone still uses in the US?

irmoz,

That just isn’t true. People use liberal to mean in support of a liberal party, in this case, democrats.

If someone uses liberal to mean socialist, then they are just incorrect. The ideas are incompatible.

Delascas, in Are you replacing Reddit with Lenny?

Trying to. This is a FANTASTIC tool to find new “subreddits” on Lemmy: sub.rehab

clutchmatic,

I still do not know how to access them through Jerboa

psilocybin,

Do you run the latest update?

It has a “communities” entry in the sidebar that let’s you search and subscribe communities.

Dozzi92,
@Dozzi92@lemmy.world avatar

I wish there was even a browse future. Sometimes the mind can’t think of what it wants is called.

Not sure why I’m telling you, but thanks for listening.

psilocybin,

Sure thing

What do you mean by “browse” feature?

There is a way to see a feed of all Lemmy activity.

In jerboa you can see it after you click on on the burger menu in the top right corner of the screen and select “All”.

Dozzi92,
@Dozzi92@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, more browse just subs, versus posts on individual subs. Like, just a list of subs.

And I am 90% Jerboa at this point, so if it’s on the browser version, disregard everything, because I’m here now and I’ll probably stumble upon it.

auf, in What butterfly effect have you personally witnessed?

I opened YouTube for a short break to spend 5 hours in vain.

luthis, in What are the best fediverse alternatives to youtube?

I use Odysee, it has plenty of content. I’d like to hear what other people use as well.

That’s not federated though, just an alternative that uses LBRY

QuietStorm,
@QuietStorm@lemmy.fmhy.ml avatar

ive heard of that but i was not sure of it.

Fizz,
@Fizz@lemmy.nz avatar

I like odysee as well since its the only alternative that has lots of content. However the video performance sucks(I don’t blame them). I like that I can contribute to the network.

I wish odysee content was available on peertube. Because peertube performance is good and I’d have no problem Donating to my instance host.

FilipR, in If you could witness any historical event firsthand, which one would you choose and why?

A roman triumph.

floofloof, in What butterfly effect have you personally witnessed?

Sex and several new humans appearing.

ShoePaste, in F*ck, Marry, Kill: Bread, Pasta, Rice.
@ShoePaste@lemmy.ml avatar

Does a tortilla count as bread, cuz if not bread gets killed. I think id marry pasta cuz i love noodles and fuck rice. But not gonna lie, id be cheating on noodles constantly

ThaijsClan, in Breakfast suggestions?

You can find lactose free alternative milk. One brand is called Lactaid and it tastes exactly the same an normal milk.

PaulBGD,

For the record it is real milk with all the lactose, but with added lactase to process it in your stomach. It still has some of the downsides of having dairy while taking lactase, but it’s pretty solid.

One other option is also the next-gen silk or NotCo’s NotMilk, both a lot more milk like than oat or other nut based milks.

Wahots, in I'm being harassed by mosquitoes, how do i kill them all?
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

Permethrin treated clothes will kill just about anything that bites you through your clothes, including horse flies. Then you could wear a very thin layer of clothes and be fine. Their death happens before they even get through the fibers.

You can buy pretreated or get the solution to make your own. I think its using the same chemical that chrysanthemums produce to fight bug eating them.

diggit,

I would be cautious about that if you have a cat, and/or children. It’s toxic to cats and some people are hypersensitive to it.

PerCarita, in Why is youtube recommending conservative "talking points" to me?
@PerCarita@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

You can view what Google “knows” about you on your account settings. I made my account when I was very young, I lied about my age and my gender, then it made assumptions based on my interests of my professional situation. I guess many people in my gender and age group, sharing my actual interests (tech, movies, culture, food) are also interested in the kind of content you described (Joe Rogan, Jordan Peterson, Yiannopolous, etc). I keep clicking “not interested”, but the algorithm keep suggesting these videos to me. I don’t mind that Google doesn’t know my politics. I’m a feminist, but there’s really not a lot of interesting discourse about feminism on Youtube, so I just read and attend real life lectures instead.
