krnl386, in What's a big tech product that you actually find useful?
@krnl386@lemmy.ca avatar

No one product, but more of a collection of technologies underlying the Apple ecosystem. For example, AirDrop or Continuity (drafting something on one device and continuing/finishing on another).

railsdev,

Universal Control is pretty magical. I love having both my work and personal laptops connected to an ultrawide monitor and using my mouse/keyboard (actually Magic Trackpad, Magic Keyboard) across the two.

When I’m waiting for something for work I can slide the cursor over and do something on my personal computer.

My only paranoia is that the work laptop can track what I’m typing but that’s why I use the peripherals connected to the personal laptop to control everything.

Fawzors, in In which game did you spend the most hours?

Continuum. I have more than 10 thousand hours on my main account, 3 thousand more on alts I do not have access anymore. Most of the time was afk or just being online since it had a chat and very lightweight. You can see top players by usage time on the trenchwars server website.

railsdev, in What series did you rewatch most often?

Mr. Robot Westworld

rayman30, in What series did you rewatch most often?
@rayman30@lemmy.world avatar

I rewatch Futurama all the time. Super excited for the new season!

minorsecond,

Super excited for the new season!

Stfu what?!

rayman30,
@rayman30@lemmy.world avatar

No joke. Starting Juli 24 on Hulu

perishthethought,
Stillhart,

Futurama for sure. There’s so much going on in every episode, it’s easy to find new things (or things you just forgot) on rewatch.

intensely_human, in Downvotes = “I disagree” or “this is bad and you should feel bad”?

Downvote = “I think this should be a little lower in the sort priority”

It’s the opposite of an upvote.

Cullen,
@Cullen@lemmy.ml avatar

Yep same, purely for what I want to see higher/lower in the sort

milicent_bystandr,

I feel that should be balanced with: this is appropriate here so I won’t downvote it, even if it’s irrelevant to me.

… I suppose for big communities that averages out so it’s okay, but maybe not for small

Cullen,
@Cullen@lemmy.ml avatar

Yeah true! I guess there’s some subtle complexities to it

intensely_human,

Like if you downvote everything you don’t upvote, it almost doesn’t have an effect because all those things are equally bearing one new downvote and hence don’t change sort precedence with each other.

heimchen, in In which game did you spend the most hours?

My sister has more than 1000+ h in Sims 4

Michal, in What series did you rewatch most often?

Seinfeld

ikiru,

Seinfeld, hands down.

kionite231, in What is the least SEO-fucked search engine?

yandex.com if you don’t mind ru gov spying on you. Though you can use it with tor or VPN for privacy.

rbits, in What gaming console / platform do you prefer?

PC, mostly because I like KB+M. And if it’s a game that uses a controller, I have the steam deck.

jerdle_lemmy, in Those who tried Linux and went back to Windows, what caused you to go back to Windows?

Fucking up my UEFI on my laptop, making it difficult to boot into Linux.

Undoing that.

Zozano,
@Zozano@aussie.zone avatar

Bootloaders don’t interact with the UEFI, the UEFI interacts with the bootloader.

Sounds like you just used a bad one. systemd-boot is superb, it autodetects all kernals and shows an option to access the UEFI.

Windows however, assumes it owns your boot partition, so likes to delete Linux bootloaders if installed last.

jerdle_lemmy,

I don’t mean my bootloader though. The UEFI menu can’t be accessed using the standard method of pressing a key.

Zozano,
@Zozano@aussie.zone avatar

I would look for a setting in the UEFI to delay the startup, it might be that it’s too quick.

If you need to reboot into the UEFI you can use:

systemctl reboot --firmware-setup

MinusPi, in What movie did you rewatch most often?

Not me, but my partner watched the Jim Carrey Grinch movie every single day for a few months.

Im28xwa, in In which game did you spend the most hours?

Hollow knight ~110h

forgotmylastusername, in What is the least SEO-fucked search engine?

For a brief moment in time search engines were perfected. Then they veered off course. All of them did. Why though.

Remember when you could list vaguely some words related an obscure movie to Google. Then it would tell you the movie you’re thinking of. That’s been nerfed.

Tangentially related. What’s the deal with search engines of online stores. It’s like they aren’t even search engines at all. They’re doing nothing more than showing me products/sellers they want me to buy from. Digikey lets you drill down to precise specification filters. I wish all search engines could be like that.

lauha,

Actually the vague movie description thing was due to imdb’s movie tags that users had set on the movie and search engine was doing the simples things it could i.e. “all this one word links point to this movie, perhaps it is this?”

figaro,

Why’d they stop?

atthecoast, in What movie did you rewatch most often?

The original Matrix movie

lynny, in What gaming console / platform do you prefer?
@lynny@lemmy.world avatar

My Switch because it runs retroarch and allows me to either dock it to my TV, third monitor, or play it on the go. Maybe if I got a steamdeck that would be my favorite, but I will have to wait a few more years until they’re cheap enough for me to afford.
