Yes, a nightmare I had as a child, many years ago (around 30ish). I was in a desert/beach....the air was dusty and orange-tinted. There was a gazebo made of wood, almost rotting or rotten, and a giant golem who trapped me in a wooden box. The whole thing was terrifying, and dry and hot.
I wanted to dual boot linux and windows but installed linux on the wrong drive partition and wrote over all of my data. Decided i was too stupid for linux. To be fair that was 3 years ago, maybe ill try again soon
I spent three days installing Arch from scratch. After I got it working, I wiped everything and did it again and again, I wrote 2 simple script to automate the process, and after I was done, I wiped everything and installed Manjaro lol.
It’s a good learning experience, I recommend every new Linux user do it in a sandbox at least once.
If you try again, follow a dual-boot guide for your distro. Also, make your root and home partitions separate, so if you run into issues, you can reset safely.
Nope, in fact after trying the super delete Suite (failed) I’m creating my own userscript to delete all my old comments. Once it’s finished later today I’ll post about it on Lemmy for others to use.
15yr old account dead and banned. The only time I check out Reddit is to look at the Western Europeans taking the piss out of each other on 2westerneuropean4u.
Not really. I think I visited twice this month - pop in to see someone’s comments page and some small sub. Nowadays if google sends me to Reddit, I just view the cached version.
Not really since RIF is RIP. I do miss some extra content from niche communities, but I’m hoping Lemmy will grow enough to fill those gaps. Reddit was also a big news source, but I’ll be hitting other news outlets until Lemmy gets there too.
Here’s hoping Lemmy will be able to scratch my various music and art itches enough. No interest in going back to reddit these days though. The site I knew and loved over the last decade+ is no more. It’s sucked seeing it devolve over the years. Feels a lot like when everyone’s mom got facebook.
That’s amazing! I always wished there was a pill or something that could give me amnesia for a fee hours so I could enjoy something for the first time again.
I just browse by All and sort by New Comments. I get a diverse feed of topics, some I may not even be aware of, all with active discussion due to any new comment or reply pushing them to the top.
You could… but it’s singly not setup for that. There are blog softwares out there that support activitypub-- I have no experience with it, but microblog.pub was nativity designed as an activitypub blog. There’s also a WordPress plugin that’s basically official (maintained by the company that owns WordPress.com) and has known good integration to at least mastodon, so I would assume it works well with lemmy, peertube, etc, since AFAICT, mastodon is the most opinionated of them when it comes to activitypub conformance.
There are some nice stuff of Ali that was original intended for the Chinese market. But you have to know you get what you pay for in China. If it’s too cheap, it’s going to be crap.
I recommend that everybody keep two accounts on their instance of choice (as long as this is within the rules of your instance). Keep one account for all the "brain on" stuff, and one account for the "brain off' stuff. You know what I mean, interpret it how you like.
If you're using one of the mobile apps, most of them support very easy quick account switching, which makes this even easier on your phone. It definitely makes it a lot more manageable, in my experience.
Us early adopters have some advantage in that we have grown with the communities. You’re now looking at a much larger list than we did.
I would search for stuff you’re interested in and subscribe to them. Then maybe look at the mods and see what else they have posted and commented on. These will likely be people that are engaged well on lemmy and may have similar interests as you. Maybe subscribe to places they are engaging with.
After you have a solid base of 20-40 communities, use the All feed and sort by newest posts to try and find stuff you may be interested in and are active. That will show stuff from lots of other instances.
