netr0m, in In which game did you spend the most hours?
@netr0m@infosec.pub avatar

Definitely Morrowind! The Elder Scrolls III. Oh, I might actually start it back up again at some point… Maybe one should try the Tamriel Rebuilt mod.

AnonStoleMyPants, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

Yeah I check hydroponics subs occasionally.

Antimutt, in What is your dark figure/shadow person story?
@Antimutt@lemmy.world avatar

The story is A Wizard of Earthsea (1968, Ursula K. Le Guin), I read it when I was very young, and shadow person is the plot.

alternative_factor, in How do you cheer yourself up after a rough day? Or a rough year?
@alternative_factor@kbin.social avatar

Honestly when I feel my worst I enjoy comforting media, but what's a very bizzare and unethical bad habit of mine is reading stuff people with worse lives than me post online (I never interact with them- prime directive!). I know it's wrong and voyeuristic but it always makes me grateful for how comparatively together I am.

Dinodicchellathicc,

Now you’re interacting with me! Does it harsh your mellow?

LOL! No it helped cheer me up honestly.

Ballistic86, in Those who tried Linux and went back to Windows, what caused you to go back to Windows?

The best thing about Windows is that if there is something you want to do, either there is a detailed guide online for the specific issue or someone went a step further and created a simple tool to accomplish that task. Windows is stable/reliable/accessible.

To run Linux it would need to be just as easy to install, be as compatible with games as Windows, and not have to involve deep dives into Linux user forums to accomplish basic stuff.

With the main intention of Linux, outside of just not supporting Apple or Microsoft, is to be able to customize your OS experience. I don’t have time/patience/desire to do that. I want my computer to be there ready to open a game launcher and launch that game without issue. That is true about Windows 99.8% of the time, I have not had that same experience with Linux.

200cc,

Windows is stable/reliable/accessible.

It's not stable (servers run on linux) it's not reliable (autoupdates) it's not accessible (closed source)

Alex,

My experience is the opposite. Whenever I run into a weird problem on Windows, half of the time I can’t find an answer anywhere. And when I find an answer, it often seems really sketchy, like deleting a specific registry key, without explaining WHY it is required.

I also had some problems, where I couldn’t find anything with Linux, but less so than on Windows.

I guess it depends a lot on what you do, I don’t play a lot of games and don’t need any Software that’s supported only by Windows.

Zozano,
@Zozano@aussie.zone avatar

ArchWiki is my first point of contact after experiencing an issue. Its an amazing resource.

I’m surprised Windows default troubleshooting solution has been to employee people who spend their time answering questions on forums, often just copy/pasting answers which often don’t apply to the question being asked.

thelsim, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?
@thelsim@sh.itjust.works avatar

Maybe once a week? To check on some specific subs, but I revert back to my old lurker ways when I’m there and never contribute.

HolyHell, in do you guys shop on places like aliexpress/Temu and if you do what items have pleasantly surprised you?

I bought an intel i7-5775c for like £70 about 2 and a half years ago from Aliexpress. Really strong cpu for the price, overclocks well and has meant that I haven’t had to upgrade my motherboard and ram to ddr4 yet.

Kolanaki, in Which community in lemmy is similar to r/buildmeaPC?
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

Could have swore I saw a few posts from “BuildAPC” on Lemmy the other day, and it looked like it was the Reddit sub moved over to whatever instance it was on.

But PCMasterRace and PCGaming can also assist with this.

PlutoniumAcid, in How to make subscribed feed more diversed?
@PlutoniumAcid@lemmy.world avatar
  1. I consume my Subscribed feed first.
  2. When I have seen enough there but still want more, I go to the All feed.
  3. With good luck, I find new communities and subscribe to those. That improves my Subscribed feed, see step 1.
  4. with bad luck, I find a lot of crap in the All feed. When I notice recurring annoying communities, I go to their sidebar and block them. That improves my All feed, see step 2.
tbe, in Which community in lemmy is similar to r/buildmeaPC?

I’m sure lemmy.world/c/pcmasterrace can help :)

NightOwl, in How do you cheer yourself up after a rough day? Or a rough year?

Trying to bombard my mind with a bunch of random tasks and noise to try and stop the fixation and turn its attention elsewhere until I can sleep and escape into the dream world where hopefully the dreams don’t haunt me either.

abbadon420, in Have you ever had a hyper realistic dream that you still remember after years?

As a kid, age 8-10 or so, I used have a recurring dream about a girl who lived next door. I would go play outside with her. We’d play something different every night. The funny thing was that I had no girl living nextdoor. I lived in a rural area outside a small town with no families with kids around.

Years later I see this girl in a bar, we’re both 17 at this point. She looks exactly like the girl from my dreams, only a bit older. We’re now married and we have 2 kids.

kfx,

Assuming you told her about these dreams? What was her reaction?

Carter, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

My usage just plummeted off a cliff after creating a Lemmy account. Infinity for Reddit is still working at the moment but I don’t even have the app on my home screen anymore so I rarely open it.

AccountMaker, in How do you cheer yourself up after a rough day? Or a rough year?

I listen to this masterpiece

flambonkscious,

You monster! Rockabilly trash can dig deeper than I thought…

At least it gives me hope for my musical career, but I suspect I’m not deaf enough

SCmSTR,

That.... Is so incredibly disruptive mentally and emotionally. It's like being slapped in the face with a fish the size of a truck.

I can't believe that actually helped at all. Holy shit.

metaStatic,

That is fucking glorious.

and now I've fallen down an outsider music rabbit hole

Robsadaisy, in Have you ever had a hyper realistic dream that you still remember after years?

I have what I call movie dreams, sometimes they are fantasy, sometimes they are more non-fiction. Sometimes I am myself, other times I am a character and there’s even been a few where I am merely the camera -as I’m im not in the dream just observing. One of the fantasy ones that stands out was pirates fairies and elves, but in space. I was a shapeshifing fairy that was tasked with protecting a group of elves from pirates. I was setting decoys and running from and fighting pirates.

kfx,

That sounds awesome. Wish I had those!
