Haven’t deleted rif yet and have been opening the just to check every couple if days. On July 1, I was getting errors (429 I think), then the login page after a couple if days. Earlier, I was seeing posts, but the front page, popular, and all were the same. Also, all the multis I created were gone. Haven’t checked on desktop yet.

I’ve found my Lemmy experience much better, even though many of the subs I was subscribed to haven’t migrated yet. But it’s early days and I have enough patience to see the Fediverse grow.

Gamera8ID, in What's the best Android/iPhone app for Lemmy?

There’s a comprehensive list of Lemmy apps being curated here.

Right now I’m using Liftoff on Android.

DarthVi,

I’m another Liftoff user!

I’ve also tried Jerboa, Connect for Lemmy and wefwef, but lately I’m using Liftoff a lot.

+1 for Liftoff

TechyDad,

I like Liftoff and Jerboa. I flip between them depending on my mood.

For me personally, Jerboa is the best Android Lemmy app that I’ve tried, and I have tried several of them. I’ll just be glad when Sync for Lemmy is released.

techcelt,

I have tried Jerboa, and have just tried liftoff. I prefer the UI of Jerboa and it’s in fdroid also!

Really liking thunder, now that it can view profiles and edit comments.

theolodger,

How does one view profiles in Thunder?

MentalEdge,
@MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz avatar

Currently only opening post author profiles is possible, long tap a post, or tap their name in the post view. Same is coming for comments.

MeetInPotatoes, in Can someone still viewing Reddit explain how it is doing as of right now in terms of content quality and engagement?

This is like asking someone to check in on your ex, sure it sounds like a good idea, but…

revs, in What's the best Android/iPhone app for Lemmy?

Not a native app, but i’m using the wefwef web app, and it’s pretty awesome and getting multiple updates a day.

It’s a web based clone of Apollo

wefwef.app

lemonadebunny,

Same here. I never thought I’d love a webapp so much, but here I am…

ActuallyJohnCena,

As a web app developer… ouch! Web is good now!

lemonadebunny,
@lemonadebunny@lemmy.ca avatar

I genuinely believe web is the future, with the way new OSes are made every day

ActuallyJohnCena,

Yeah the biggest problem with web is a general lack predictability with the platform. Different screen sizes, browsers, versions, etc etc. Hard to build for all of those without some concessions but I like the progressive web app approach with wefwef (which I just ‘installed’ and this is rad!)

Deconceptualist,

Wefwef looks nice and I really want to like it but I keep tapping the back button and getting sent all the way back to my communities list, and therefore losing my spot in the scroll. It’s getting old really fast.

Lorela,

Me too - it has weird quirks that at this stage may be turning potential users away.

To be fair though, it’s something that’s been put together very quickly. I think it’s had 2 updates even just in the last 24hrs, to resolve some of these teething problems (and accidentally introducing more). I’m happy to stick with it and be patient; it’s still in beta and would be unreasonable to expect a fully functional product at this point.

Some frustrations will also be coming from the decentralised nature of Lemmy. I’ve noticed issues with using my lemmy.world account or looking for content on lemmy.world from a different instance, and this isn’t really a fault of wefwef or anyone to be honest (as .world is really struggling with excess load atm). It’s early days, it’s going to be rough, we just need to be patient and mindful.

bop,

Any plans to make it an iOS app that you know of?

Memmy is great too!

renlok,

It’s a PWA which means you can install it on any phone

Prefix,

Great app!

Foggyfroggy, in Can someone still viewing Reddit explain how it is doing as of right now in terms of content quality and engagement?

I still go on old Reddit on desktop. I’ve noticed the quality and variety of posts has declined a little. There are more medium quality memes and reposts. A lot of the big subs that drove the serious engagement have become quieter and not as present on the front page. It’s still busy and the front page refreshes often but it does feel different. Maybe only 10 percent different which isn’t much, but those heavy users that were forced to decrease engagement across a whole lot of subs were responsible for so much of the vibe.

morgan_423, (edited ) in Atheists/agnostics of Lemmy, do you believe in the existence of souls?
@morgan_423@lemmy.world avatar

Something I take some comfort in is that regardless of what your soul does upon death in the short term (whether it’s an afterlife of some sort that we don’t understand, a nihilistic void of nothingness, reincarnation as the soul attaches to a newly created body somewhere else in the world… whatever, no one alive truly knows or could ever know), science believes in a sort of reincarnation.

Where eventually as step one, everything that ever was ends up in black holes, and those black holes eventually decay until the universe is nothing but a uniform background of unchanging radiation, referred to as the heat death of the universe (because nothing can really physically change on macroscopic scales anymore, in order to convert energy into new heat).

And then, after ridiculously long time periods, quantum fluctuations cause the machinery of the universe to start back up again, everything re-forms, and eventually our universe ends up back where it started at the beginning of your life.

So it’s possible that you will live again, and again, and again, forever, just with no ability to remember how it went down last time. And an incredibly long wait between lifetimes (though, to be fair, if death is a nihilistic void for each person, that wait is only going to feel like two seconds and bam, you’re right back in the womb).

So if nothing else, at least there’s that.

Kissaki,

That's still "you" when no molecule was left of you?

morgan_423,
@morgan_423@lemmy.world avatar

It’s still an exact arrangement of matter that’s identical to your original configuration. So one would think that all the properties arising from it (such as consciousness) would be the same. So it’s You Part 2 (or Part two quintillion, there’s really no way to know which loop we’re on).

Kissaki,

I'd consider that identical, but not the same

Lowlands, in What's the best Android/iPhone app for Lemmy?

Memmy seems like a solid choice, very active development. It has been offered to Apple review last week and should appear in the appstore soon.

ivenoidea,
@ivenoidea@lemmy.world avatar

I second Memmy. I’ve tried the others available currently, including wefwef and Memmy is my favorite. wefwef is second, but an actual native app still feels better imo.

foofiepie,

I third Memmy, but the amount of times I’ve gone to close a comment thread and it’s brought up the new comment dialog. And I can’t rotate an image to landscape, had no idea how often I did that. Still, old Apollo habits die hard. It’s a great contender.

fraydabson,

Agreed. I love wef wef but still has some weirdness being a web app. Memmy is my favorite installed app.

DooDeeDoo,

Memmy is very polished! I’m astonished how well they’ve designed the app. It’s very familiar to anyone who has used apollo but, dare i say it, better!

DigToTheDug,

I’m currently using Memmy and it’s nice to navigate. Unfortunately, it crashes fairly often for me.

Lemmylaugh,

It’s on the AppStore too now. Go go go!

SocialEngineer56,

Another Memmy user here - if you’re a fan of Apollo Memmy is the perfect substitute!

TekAzurik,

Agree!

pewgar_seemsimandroid,

for android users theres wefwef/voyager

Personally I’ve to admit that sadly I didn’t notice many changes in some communities :(

But well, it would take time.

I noticed I think just yesterday that r/pics was going full NSFW (tag) but didn’t see any nudity in posts.

hollunder,

They were ‘forced’ by their members as they kept swearing in comments even tho the mods warned them to not swear in comments… So the nsfw tag has nothing to do with the protest. See?

birdcannon, in Can someone still viewing Reddit explain how it is doing as of right now in terms of content quality and engagement?

Can’t speak for defaults or large subs, just anecdotal stuff from the few times when I browsed on desktop since Friday.

One of my favorite subreddits /r/progmetal is still private with a message to join the discord instead. Glad they’re staying dark.

Others seem like business as usual, but I don’t have any data obv.

Laxaria, (edited )

The generic stuff that has a broad common denominator will easily take hold on Lemmy as they would in any growing community (like shitposts, question threads, gaming, technology, news, image focused communities and so on).

The niche stuff will take a while to grow, more so as the niche subs are those less likely to move from Reddit (or already have communities like Discord that they retreat to). More specific communities will need to build a new base here unfortunately.

Time will tell; it’s not been that long.
