Lemmies are the Instances themselves, actually. Lemmy.world, lemmy.ml, beehaw.com are all Lemmies/Instances/Servers. The terms are used interchangeably, with most calling them Instances.
If I do a Google search and a Reddit thread comes up with relevant info or discussion, I’ll check it out but I have completely stopped browsing and interacting with it.
We really need to get a search function so this post can stop being asked 1x daily by some new refugee.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad y’all are here and it moves a lot faster than 2y ago, but every day with this question, and no consensus has been reached. We should all just stop “asking” and let time tell us what we call ourselves, some word will win eventually.
Fair, but “working” is still a condition I put forth as desireble. Whether or not it not working is asklemmy’s fault or jerboa’s fault, it doesn’t “work.”
I’m not accusing you personally of sabotaging lemmy, we’re all cool here, I’m just saying “a working search function would be a good thing to have inside all communities on lemmy” and I’m not sure why that would be controversial.
From my end, it sounds like you want things that haven’t been developed yet and don’t like the bandaid solutions that have been added to try and help. There are a ton of things that won’t work from the different apps and again, expecting them to makes it sound like you have expectations that just can’t be met right now.
Well, what I was actually saying was that feature that hasn’t been developed yet would be cool to have.
Are we not allowed to think features that haven’t been developed yet would be good to develop? How does developing happen if one is only allowed to think current features would be good? Sure, “we have community search at home,” but I can’t still want actual McDonald’s fries? They are objectively better than orida, “real search” is better than “bandaid solutions,” honestly I don’t get why there would be pushback against the thought that “we need a real search function,” tbh, you make it sound like they’re developing it or working on it so obviously someone agrees with me, what’re we doing here? Same team dude.
As a long time NY style preferrer, I was basically 100% certain that I’d hate Detroit style. Surprisingly, I loved it. It’s the only way I make pizza now. It’s so fucked up. How did they completely fuck up pizza yet make it so good? The sauce goes on top? What the fuck?
Anyways, I’ll probably burn out on it before long (eating a Detroit style pizza is a commitment) but it blew my mind when I finally tried it last year.
I’m going to guess the places I went had their own twist on it, but I’m offended you think I could mistake a Detroit style for a Chicago style.
Chicago styles are defined by being utterly disgusting and inedible round deep dish casseroles from a state whose entire cuisine revolves around turning everything into a casserole. The sauce goes on top as a matter of preference.
And, like you said, Detroit styles are defined by the pan they’re baked in, with Wisconsin brick melting down the sides and forming a burned cheese crust. The ones I’ve had – admittedly mostly local joints not in Michigan and only once or twice from a real Jet’s or Buddy’s-- mainly threw a couple splashes of sauce on top, but wildly unevenly, nothing at all like the even layering of a Chicago style “pizza”
I know. Most of the places I’ve been – and the recipes I’ve found for Detroit style – have the cheese on the bottom with a couple splashes of tomato sauce on top. I’ve only been to a Jet’s or Buddy’s once or twice and I guess I dont really recall where they put the sauce.
These were still nothing at all like a Chicago style, which I generally categorize as either a war crime or a lab experiment hybridizing pizza and casserole gone horribly wrong.
Regardless, even if cheese on bottom with sauce on top isn’t characteristic of Detroit style, it’s a remarkable innovation in pizza science. And I don’t mean that you should fill a deep dish casserole with dough, cheese and sausage and pour several pounds of tomato sauce on top like you need to load up on fats and protein to cope with the wind chill in Chicago
It’s not usable on my phone and now searches are basically buggered with a number of subreddits being nsfw. So for example I was searching something specific to pop_os and can’t view the thread. Just closed it. Will block Reddit returns in Kagi now most likely.
I think there may have been a day or two where I looked at it for a few minutes in the browser at work over the past couple of weeks.
I have not gone to Reddit just to “use reddit” since discovering lemm.ee a couple weeks ago. Sometimes still end up on specific threads through search results, especially for obscure stuff on older video games.
Not completely, there are still some niche, non-technical communities that are probably never going to switch. I hope at some point they do, but still go once in a while to check. I don’t go daily like I used to, mostly do lemmy daily since the apps are getting so good now.
My dad once told me that if my relationship with god was good, my grades would take care of themselves. I know what he meant was, “if you do the things god wants you to do, you’ll also be doing well in school”, but it’s still horrible advice.
More recently, my mother-in-law has been saying to my wife that she wishes that my wife could have faith in god’s plan because it just helps her in own life so much. I always roll my eyes at this. If there is a god, and he has a plan, his plan sucks ass and he plays favorites for sure.
