As Connor Leahy says, companies are stuck in a race to the bottom where the only thing that matters is being the first to achieve AGI, even at the expense of security. I believe that unless things change significantly, we are heading towards extinction. We might create a very powerful AGI that simply doesn’t care about us and ends up destroying us. This wouldn’t be because the AGI is inherently evil, but simply because we would be in its way, much like how humans wouldn’t care about ants when building a road. I wish more people were discussing this issue because in a few years, it might be too late.
I fail to comprehend why there’s no community dedicated to “Rock” music. This network, after all, was named after one of the most iconic rock stars of our era…
Please PLEASE get this one up and running! That place is a treasure trove of information. So much so, they should have their own website while maintaining a lemmy domain. That info should be disseminated across multiple platforms so it isn’t lost.
The mods seem to not like Lemmy specifically but I don’t know what their plan is. It seems like they’re just gonna be in this restricted mode forever. Makes it easier to leave Reddit though.
Maybe the Ask history mods don’t understand how to use it yet? This platform does take a bit of learning, but every update seems like it increases the end user experience
At the same time, we are seeing lots of requests to implement major new features, such as migration between instances, or combining similar communities. As described above, we are completely overloaded with work, and definitely won’t have time to implement these in the near future. If there is a feature you want to see implemented, you will likely need to work on it yourself, or find someone who can.
WickedEdge already exists on this platform, but it’s not active and doesn’t have the same community. These niche communities will not be the same as those on Reddit since many of the people are normies and don’t care at all about Reddit’s shitty platform. I would open some communities on my own, but I’m not an expert in these fields, like for example in shaving, and I couldn’t be of any help for other people.
Even lemmy.word, at least for me, was difficult to join. I have a hard time to log into the account I have created there. I think we must understand this is not redit, the platform is fundamentally different how you approach it. The fuller the server gets, the more difficult it gets to get into your account.
Also, just to throw this out there for anyone who isn’t aware; some fine folks have made a site where you can search for communities across all instances. Check it out!
Health-related communities, particularly those for specific medical conditions. Those are the communities that really become a lifeline for people, help them through diagnoses or just difficult times, and can serve as an excellent resource. I was active on r/diabetes_t1 on Reddit and am trying to get a community started here on Lenny.world (!T1diabetes).
Vito is probably the easiest for your average “what’s your name?” Queries at a coffeeshop. But I think Vitaly would also work since it’s just the word “Vital” with a Y added to the end. I’m sorry you had to move because of the Russians :(
I think Vito is pretty cool name, now they can actually call me, lol Yeah i hate russians because of this, i cant even explain what they’ve done to my country Thank you for your support
I’m also on SDF. They’ve been in the business of offering free computing resources to the public since the 80s. So I feel confident that they won’t close up shop due to lack of expertise or resources.
