DreamySweet, in Does anyone else struggle with silence, particularly when trying to sleep?
@DreamySweet@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I need constant noise from something like a fan to sleep.

Double_A, in What password manager do you recommend?
@Double_A@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

For important things Keepass (which I sync in Onedrive). For casual things whatever the browser offers… or some random long password and password reset ._.

TheDubz87, in Does anyone else struggle with silence, particularly when trying to sleep?

Try a fan. And this one’s weird, but I have an analog clock in my room and the rhythmic ticking helps me sleep.

chrisphero,

I know were you are coming from and I know a few people who have a clock in the room and sleep… but I just can’t… the rhythmic ticking drives me crazy haha

podcast or audio books are my go to - sometimes I’m stuck on the same chapter for weeks

NotAPenguin,

I can't handle the constant having to rewind and going wait did I already listen to this last night? that happens if I listen to podcasts or audiobooks to sleep.

Maybe I should just find a podcast I don't care about actually hearing everything in that I could use for sleep.

Celivalg,

I usually put on some PBS Space Time, not quite podcast, but I often don’t look at the visuals when trying to sleep. The videos are short (about 15min) , but provided it’s between 23:30 and 00:30, it usually takes only about 5 minutes before I fall asleep.

Used to do audiobooks, but that would fail if I was too invested in the book…

chrisphero,

I know what you mean, so here are my solutions. My podcast are either about F1 or gaming - so very generic and I have different ones. The topics are very similar, but with different persons and opinions, it’s never the same - so ideal for drifting off.

For audiobooks, I mostly listen to books, I’ve already read or listend to previously. So you know the rough story, but some small details are always missed. My prime example are the harry potter books by stephen fry… I fall asleep within minutes haha

NightOwl,

I have an air purifier in my room that is always running so filling the room with humming and providing clean air.

LachlanUnchained,

I feel like the thoughts in my head would drown it out.

WaDef7, in e-reader or tablet for reading academic paper

Many people here are talking about buying an iPad and the pencil, but if all you're doing is reading papers I think this is a massive overspend. There are many inexpensive android tablets that come with pencils plenty good enough for handwriting or non-artistic drawing.

Of course, you say you have a job so you're likely not to need to buy the cheapest thing possible (even if you don't, you're not forced to buy an iPad, Samsung's tablet software is quite good), but I don't want someone with the same use case, who might just be a student, to get the impression they need to spend a grand to read pdfs.

kreateer, in I'm being harassed by mosquitoes, how do i kill them all?
@kreateer@programming.dev avatar

I’ve found that Eucaliptus plants deter mosquitoes pretty well

ToastyBanana, in Does anyone else struggle with silence, particularly when trying to sleep?

Others have made great points; I’d like to add my favourite: you can play rain sounds from Spotify (and iOS devices can do this without any subscriptions from the Hearing CC toggle)!

It helps me during nights I have a lot on my mind :)

stappern, in Why is youtube recommending conservative "talking points" to me?

youtube is a right wing propaganda machine. im convinced of it at this point.

i cannot look at shorts without getting a fucking piers morgan or andrew tate or joe rogan with the antivaxx guest . FUCK ME.

no matter how many times i click “dont reccomend this channel to me” or click dislike they always come back. it cant be a coincidence. i even tried with a clean account, 30 min in you get some shit from that sphere.

DubiousInterests,

Mine only shows me tech, science, and games related things. I’m glad I am one of the lucky ones.

dizzy,
@dizzy@lemmy.ml avatar

I’m getting the exact same shit on shorts constantly. Joe Rogan, Andrew Tate, Piers Morgan, some kid explaining why women should stay in the kitchen, another guy screaming that trans people don’t exist, some imam thinking he’s making people look stupid for not believing in god, etc

I’m not sure if I’m impressed in my ad/content blocking and general internet hygiene that google/youtube knows me so badly or worried that so many people, particularly young/impressionable people, who may not have such strongly opposed views to that hateful crap, are getting brainwashed and radicalized into having extreme conservative views.

Dirk, in What password manager do you recommend?
@Dirk@lemmy.ml avatar

Since you don’t want to selfhost anyway just use the one built-in to your browser. Nowadays you can set up synch with a password

Coreidan,

Terrible idea. Never use your browser to save passwords. Way too easy to hack.

Dirk,
@Dirk@lemmy.ml avatar

I am pretty sure you can provide reliable sources that are not one blog article by one individual telling their opinion.

If it’s really “way too easy to hack” there should be plenty of souces.

saddlebag, in Does anyone else struggle with silence, particularly when trying to sleep?

Buy yourself a white noise machine. I’ve been using one for almost 10 years, it’s helped my sleep routine immensely. I prefer it to something with talking because the fluctuations of something like comedy would disrupt me. Also, I think that concentrating on something like comedy makes me want to watch it and I would woke up.

The next thing is an eye mask. Even if your room is mostly dark, I’ve found it helps me to stay asleep.

Pssk, in What's the point of buying new phones every years?
@Pssk@lemmy.ml avatar

I have been using my poco f1 for more than 4 years now, the only problem i have had is the battery. It has an sdcard slot, headphone jack, 6gb of ram which has been more than enough and latest lineageos is supported. see fsfe.org/activities/…/index.en.html

Klawn, in what was your first video game/system you played or remember playing?

It was fruity Franck on armstrad CPC. You had to insert a floppy disk and type EXACTLY the program’s name, which i couldn’t because me as a child always called it tutty fruity. My uncle needed to be here if i wanted to play.

neo, in Does anyone else struggle with silence, particularly when trying to sleep?
@neo@lemmy.comfysnug.space avatar

Absolutely. A consistent noise like a fan is best, but music is good too.

slimsalm, in Does the reddit style format breed toxicity?

Imo, downvotes is just a disagreement. Being offended by it sounds like a “you” problem, we all have to deal with it.

Upvotes normally give me answers I need for at that moment. Downvotes makes me reassess myself.

I dont think you must read to much into the downvotes. Understand the situation why people might have downvoted you, understand why other people get upvoted, assess the situation. And most of all, understand that not everybody will always agree with you

Joe_0237,

What? people wont agree with me? LIES! (<-- that is a joke). I’m not offended, and i agree, i here, am a truth seeker looking for insight, thanks!

NotAPenguin, in What password manager do you recommend?

Bitwarden

Aussiemandeus, in What password manager do you recommend?
@Aussiemandeus@lemmy.world avatar

I use Samsung notes. Save all my passwords in there, they’re all different and strings of words with characters in them etc.

Then i lock the note with one secure password.

kvvy,

I'd switch to something like BitWarden.

Um… I dont think that’s a password manager…

arin,

Samsung has Samsung Pass for an actual password manager
