multicolorKnight, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

I do. I do it every day, at a public gym/pool. It was originally a way to maintain or regain “ability” (don’t call it “fitness”, I’m still old and fat). After a while, you start feeling better, and some time after that, start noticing things are getting worse if you don’t do it.

For me, doing something fun, out of the house with others, helps a lot. Spin class, circuit training, water aerobics, having others around doing the same thing is motivating. I worked with a trainer for a while, they helped come up with things I like, for example, one of my favorites is tossing a medicine ball. Don’t ask me why, but I like that.

If you don’t enjoy it, try something else.

Prasaedonium, in What's the point of buying new phones every years?

I upgraded twice from Redmi note 7 to Redmi note 9 to poco X4, only reason I updated was because my siblings lost their phones and I saw it as an opportunity to try a newer version of something I liked.

I don’t think I’ll upgrade unless the new phone also has an IR blaster and headphone jack. The IR blaster is so incredibly convenient

I’d rather hang upside down under water and smack my face with fast moving rocks than work out in a gym

Cuz I kinda do that

TheSaneWriter, in What can a senior desktop support tech do who is burned out?

If you are wanting to move into a more programming oriented career, then I would say that while a college degree is useful it is by no means required. One of the things that you could do is complete a certification course and then apply for an entry level position, you’ll take a pay cut but unfortunately that’s common when changing careers. What type of work are you currently hope to move into?

ablackcatstail,
@ablackcatstail@lemmy.goblackcat.com avatar

I have to search for a course that would hold weight and not just look like Uncle Slappy’s IT Career School.

TheSaneWriter,

Indeed. I’m certain they exist, but it’s a case of needing to research which organizations are reputable and respected for their certifications.

empireOfLove, in How safe is it to eat raw eggs?

Eggs can be pasteurized- aka heated to kill off bacteria such as salmonella - without cooking them. From a quick Google, in the US and Japan it should be standard to make this dish with such eggs as to be safe to eat. I can’t speak to Brazil’s food safety standards though- the chances of using pasteurized eggs could be a lot lower, however if it’s a Japanese export/import, Japan takes such safety very seriously, so it’s likely to be safe.

grahamsz,

If you buy eggs preshelled in the US then they are required to be pasteurized - something like this would be good https://vitalfarms.com/pasture-raised-liquid-whole-eggs/

In theory you can pasteurize an egg in its shell, but they aren't very common round here.

fratermus, in People who work in food service or customer service: What’s the dumbest thing a customer ever insisted was “the law” or “illegal”?
@fratermus@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I once had a b2b customer (store owner) tell me that having different pricing for wholesale and retail customers was racist.

I’m pretty sure meant discriminatory but even that doesn’t make much sense.

Reddit_Is_Trash,

Wholesale customers buy in bulk. I’m sure the customer could get a discount for buying in bulk as well but they would end up spending way more money

shrugal, (edited )
@shrugal@lemmy.world avatar

Also, appart from the obvious restrictions, businesses can structure their prices however they like.

wheeldawg,

I use the word like that too. But not as a customer arguing with a business. Just with friends and family as an in joke.

Funny to hear it used that way but for srs.

Galluf,

It absolutely does make sense because it is discriminatory. He’s absolutely correct.

The mistake that you are making, is thinking that all forms of discrimination are bad. They’re not. Most are in fact good. We just don’t tend to call them discrimination.

fratermus,
@fratermus@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

He’s absolutely correct.

He said it was racist, so I’m gonna stick with he’s not correct.

The mistake that you are making, is thinking that all forms of discrimination are bad.

I am aware of the formal and common uses of the word.

Galluf,

You’re right that it’s incorrect about the racism. I was referring to the discrimination aspect.

If you’re aware, then why do you imply that it wasn’t discrimination? Or did I misunderstand that?

Angry_Maple,
@Angry_Maple@sh.itjust.works avatar

The customer called it racist. The person you were responding to said that discrimination would be a better descriptor, but also that the customer was still silly for thinking they had a case because of it, regardless of what words the customer used.

It takes a certain kind of person to get upset that a store isn’t treating you like an employee. What’s next, demanding access to the private areas? Wait, people already do that too :(

Galluf,

The person I responded to said discriminatory didn’t even make sense. I pointed out why it does make sense, because it is discriminatory and that’s perfectly fine.

Yes, that’s true and not in contrast with what I’ve said.

EssentialCoffee,

Some people just like to argue.

Shepstr, in Does anyone else struggle with silence, particularly when trying to sleep?

I usually fall asleep to a podcast. One that is interesting, but not so interesting that it’ll keep me up. A history podcast or something like that.

Vex_Detrause,

I do this too. Unmade Podcast is my sleeping podcast. 2 dudes talking podcast. It’s a little hard without it.

Shepstr,

I quite like We Have Ways podcast, although they never balance their mics so one of them ends up blasting my ears waking me up while you can’t hear the other one at low volume 😂

taigaman, in What can a senior desktop support tech do who is burned out?

I'm currently a software dev in the US, and I've always got a few things in the back of my mind: USPS, UPS, tradesman (electrician, carpentry, plumbing). Also not sure what your family situation is like, but if it's just you, I've always found the idea of owning my own tiny home exciting, and it could potentially reduce your financial burdens opening up more options for work because you won't need as much money.

RoxActually, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

Yeah for sure. Somedays no, but once you make it part of your routine it gets alot easier to enjoy. I usually listen to podcasts or music to keep my mind more active though and that helps alot, because then you are not thinking solely of the physical exertion on my body.

Klear, in What's a good way to prank your coworker?

Take a screenshot of their desktop. Set that as the background image. Right-click the desktop and uncheck View -> Display icons on desktop.

variants,

I did this to our shipping guy that had anger issues, he got so mad I got scared to tell him what I did

AshLassay,

Also auto hide the task bar and move it to another edge.

sarsaparilyptus,

What you do is take a screenshot of the desktop, rotate it 180° in MSPaint, set it as the background, hide and move the taskbar, hide desktop icons, and set the screen rotation to landscape flipped in the display settings. You’ll get a desktop that appears normal but can’t be interacted with, and a cursor that moves upside down and backwards. Rotate your victim’s mouse the wrong way around if they’re gullible and they’ll think the mouse messed everything up,

Your just pranking the IT guy that will have to fix it. A user can't be expected to navigate a context menu.

CmdrShepard,

Maybe the IT guy was the intended victim. You always want several layers separating you from your crime!
