CarlsIII, in What's something you'd change in men's fashion, given the chance?

Bye bye ties!

GentlemenPreferBongs,

They literally look sloppy unless they feel a bit too tight. At least on me. I aim for about a 15% reduction in blood flow to my brain; then I know I’m looking sharp.

sideone,
@sideone@lemmy.world avatar

I can’t remember the last time I wore a tie (oh, probably my brother’s wedding). Don’t bother for interviews or funerals now.

EfreetSK, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?
@EfreetSK@lemmy.world avatar

Eh, not sure if enjoyment is the right word. But it’s nice.

I started with running this year and it was awful and painful. But after I passed a certain threshold I realized it’s no longer painful, I could just hold the pace and run like forever.

Now it’s sort of relaxing experience where I can just let loose my brain and think about whatever I want for like half an hour. Which is nice when you’re an adult with no time for yourself

How to achieve this - I don’t even know myself how I made it. I got one of those Garmin watches for birthday and there was this Coach feature, I just followed it and after like 4 months I was able to run 12 km

miikaroo, in What password manager do you recommend?
@miikaroo@lemmy.ml avatar

Non self-hosted: Bitwarden

Self-hosted: Keepass

Both are open-souce, multi-platform, and free. Bitwarden does have additional paid tiers to include support for things like OTPs. I used to use Keepass but got tired of manually syncing my database; If that’s not a problem for you then it’s a great choice.

terk,

It’s more to setup, but I have my keepass auto sync across several devices using OneDrive. Each device has a local copy of the database that is synced with the cloud version using triggers.

Swarfega,

This is what I used to do. Although KeePass is better these days in that it will recognise when a database has changed and ask you if you want to synchronise the changes. KeePassXC will even reload the database when it detects changes.

flashgnash,

Bitwarden supports self hosting doesn’t it? There’s an option in the UI to specify server

jakob,
@jakob@lemmy.schuerz.at avatar

the name is vaultwarden. a reimplementation of bitwarden i think in rust. you can use it with all bitwarden-clients.

Racle,
@Racle@sopuli.xyz avatar

Yup, you can selfhost bitwarden and use your own private server to sync between devices.

Swarfega,

You sound like me. I used KeePass for many years. AutoType rules. That said it wasn’t as slick as other password managers for browser credentials. I moved my home stuff to Bitwarden and use KeePass for work. I honestly could never give up AutoType for work. Typing credentials into other applications is so handy and one majority of other password managers lack, including Bitwarden.

kwelzel,

One thing I was always wondering about the OTP feature: If OTPs are used for two-factor authentication but both your password and the OTP can be accessed through Bitwarden, aren’t you effectively sidestepping the two-factor part? I mean if I have the OTPs only on my phone then I need to know the Bitwarden master password and I need to have my phone in order to log in. On the other hand if both are in the Bitwarden vault, I only need to know the Bitwarden password. So effectively two-factor becomes one-factor authentication.

Maybe the relevant scenario here is your credentials for some website getting leaked. With OTPs inside Bitwarden any attacker would still not be able to log in as long as they don’t know your master password, giving you plenty of time to change your password. Although, if the attacker already found a way to access confidential website logins, they can probably access all kinds of other confidential data related to this account without even logging in as you.

bstix, in Is it normal for a person to "feel" less as they get older?

I’ve gotten back better at it. First you’ve got to recognize the situation and the then you’ll need to stop and enjoy it. As a kid you had plenty of time to enjoy feelings, but as an adult you have to take your time to do it.

Nobug404, in What's the point of buying new phones every years?

Your carries never gives it to you cheap. At best they sell you it at cost. More likely they sell it to you at MSRP. the cost is wrapped up in your monthly, and they hope people are too stupid or lazy to notice.

palantus,

Never say never. After buying my OnePlus 9 pro, my carrier transferred the money to me instead of from me. Realizing the mistake, they immediately transfered it back again, but that only resulted in a 0 and thus I never actually paid for the phone :)

In most other cases you are right though.

ThanksForAllTheFish, in Lemmy posts openning links in lemmy's tab is annoying

Can you middle click?

Blizzard,

Not on mobile.

ThanksForAllTheFish,

Voyager app seems good for this, links pop up in a new window.

Blizzard,

Don’t see it in the Play Store. Will try some other apps as a temporary measure before Boost for Lemmy gets released.

ThanksForAllTheFish,

vger.app

It’s a web app but you can add it to your home screen if you go to “settings -> install”.

It’s really active on github with new features. Open source too. github.com/aeharding/voyager

Blizzard,

Oooh, now I remeber. I’ve seen it but I didn’t like it - looks like it’s made by Apple… However I just installed Liftoff app and it’s decent. Will use it til Boost comes out.

fixxundfertig, in What's the point of buying new phones every years?

Exactly this. I bought a Oneplus 7 Pro for AUD $750 ($500 USD) in early 2020 and tried to “upgrade” to an iPhone 13 Pro recently. Ended up giving it to my husband and have no plans on getting a new phone again until this one dies. This phone was the last good Oneplus phone before they started transitioning to…whatever they are now. I’ve rooted it, I’ve switched ROMs a few times, I’ve unrooted it and gone back to stock ROM. Love this 2019 phone that seems to be unlike anything else available in the market rn.

lietuva,

Rocking op7pro too here. Changed back covers 5 times already, swapped battery for a new one. Never owned a phone for that long and I have no intention on buying a new one.

hsl, in What's your filter settings on Lemmy? I feel like I miss the big posts and such.

This is a support question around using Lemmy - removing the post now. Please see the sidebar for tips on better communities for questions like this in the future.

FiftyShadesOfMyCow,

I have a feeling you could answer this question in a few seconds, yet you respond with this.

hsl,
@hsl@wayfarershaven.eu avatar

I don’t follow. The rules for this community clearly state that it isn’t meant for support. There are plenty of other communities that are focused on support. Why should people subscribed to this community be expected to answer support questions if they don’t want to? That’s the whole point of different communities with different rules.

Still using my moto g40 since 2021 , don’t think I will be needing a new phone for few more years . Might install lineage os to get that latest Android version

fckreddit, (edited ) in What's a quote that has stuck with you for your whole life?

"Compassion is priceless in the truest sense of the word. It must be given freely. In abundance. "- Steven Erikson.

“Religion was invented when the first con man met the first fool.” -Mark Twain

“You are too concerned what was and what will be. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called present.”- Master Oogway.

dudebro,

To be fair, religion is a much more abstract concept than people give it credit for.

Think early humans engaging in ‘shamanistic’ rituals (taking psychedelics) and trying to make sense of what they saw.

I believe a lot of the early interpretations of religion have just been bastardized by conmen and those who don’t care to understand the truth.

fckreddit,

I don’t doubt it. Too bad that it then became a tool of control, eventually.

Kolanaki, in What's the best Android/iPhone app for Lemmy?
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

For Android I’m finding Liftoff to be the best comparison to RIF so far.

However, I I am waiting to check out Boost. But for now, I’ve stopped using the other 2 big ones (Connect and Jerboa) altogether in favor of Liftoff.

stilgar, in What's the point of buying new phones every years?
@stilgar@infosec.pub avatar

I’m tempted to upgrade for:

  • Wireless charging
  • 5G

But I’m not that tempted so I haven’t done it, still very happy with my Oneplus 7T from 2020.

Wahots, in What's something you'd change in men's fashion, given the chance?

I’ve seen women rocking shortalls, and want that to come to men’s fashion too. Everyone looks cute in them :)

sideone,

What’s a shortall? Like shorts overalls?

Wahots,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

Yup! Shorter versions of overalls for summer. They look really cute on everyone :)

GentlemenPreferBongs, in What movie scared you shitless when you were a child?

My babysitter showed me Critters (in secret) when I was 5. Rather than be scarred, she turned me into a avid horror fan. I saw all the 80’s classics when I was way too young for them thanks to HBO and Cinemax.

None phased me.

Laughably, what finally got me was so mild. In Poltergeist 2 or 3, there’s a scene where the kid’s reflection no longer mimics his own movements. It’s not even the scare, but rather the set-up.

I started staring at mirrors when I was alone, just waiting for my reflection to break into a sinister smile. My fear was, when it did, what would I do? No adult would believe me. Mirrors are unavoidable. Something supernatural would be after me. I knew I wouldn’t be able to pull off some “final girl” shit IRL.
