lvxferre, in What's something you'd change in men's fashion, given the chance?
@lvxferre@lemmy.ml avatar

Normalise Roman style tunics. The whole thing is just a rectangle with a slit (for the neck) and sewing (for the sides), with two optional sleeves, and fastened to the waist with a belt, it doesn’t get simpler than that.

Also undyed clothes becoming a thing. What’s wrong with raw colours?

scottmeme, in How much "data" do you personally have?

8tb worth of media with 3 replicas

My PC alone has about 8-10tb of unreplicated data

All in I have a raw capacity of about 160tb

trouser_mouse,
@trouser_mouse@lemmy.world avatar

That is a decent collection of pornography

scottmeme,

I don’t really keep any porn saved since everything is just accessible online.

Mostly keep movies, tv, and anime but have started to also keep some ebooks and music as of lately.

I’m also a data hoarder so I just keep most stuff forever unless it’s a torrent or installer

trouser_mouse,
@trouser_mouse@lemmy.world avatar

I really try to go through my stuff and delete things I no longer need - more usually documents rather than media… I always worry I might remove something I realise I need later! So you are probably more sensible!

scottmeme,

I also have like 200-300gb of Linux and Windows ISOs for archival reasons. There have been several times where I’ve had to load an older OS that had proper Ethernet drivers and upgrade.

trouser_mouse,
@trouser_mouse@lemmy.world avatar

It’s super dedicated, when something isn’t working people like you are why we have the things we need archived!

I have a huge collection of TTRPG material, and mirrored back ups of media but nothing that exciting.

07Chess, in What's something you'd change in men's fashion, given the chance?

Formalwear for when it is hot outside. Like a summer wedding or something. It’s always fuckin miserable going to those kind of events sweating the whole time

packjack, in Do you want to nominate someone for mod?

I’d clearly be a great mod.

“If you give someone enough rope, they eventually hang themselves”

Following this mantra has almost always worked out for me.

feck_it,

I wish my parents used that method too. I was a way too spoiled bright eyed summer child back then

Vupperware,
@Vupperware@lemmy.world avatar

I can’t help but feel pity when I see a child or teenager up to their waist in materialism and appearances.

Some day, many of those children will have a brutal awakening when the realize that they can’t live the way they did growing up forever.

fckreddit,

It’s called growing up. Everyone has to go through it. We did, they will. Pain is inevitable…

People will rarely remember what you said, but always remember how you made them feel.

dudebro,

This is 100% true.

festus, in Is it normal for a person to "feel" less as they get older?

I’ll just mention my own experience. I struggled with depression and/or anxiety for basically my entire life from as early as I can remember and I definitely didn’t have the kinds of joyful childhood experiences you describe. However now that I’m older and my anxiety is being properly treated (medication) I’ve definitely had more / stronger feelings of joy with simple experiences. All this is to say that I think it might be a depression thing, not a age thing.

InfiniteVariables, in Is it normal for a person to "feel" less as they get older?

Just go eat a bunch of psilocybin and report back OP

Lmaydev,

LSD connects parts of your brain that you haven’t used or haven’t been connected together since childhood.

Now while this doesn’t always lead to good experiences it cured my severe depression for around 12 months. I woke up feeling generally happy for the first time in a decade.

Luckily these chemicals are gradually being legalized for study and should lead to some amazing therapeutic applications.

ingy,
@ingy@lemmy.ml avatar

This is the way.

unwillingsomnambulist,

Objective unclear, ate penicillin and created a bacterium capable of speech.

On a more serious note…I gotta find some psilocybin.

JusnJusn,

I’d advise against suggesting that people should take psychedelics honestly. I know some people who have had their depression cured with psychedelics, and others who have come away from trips traumatized and scarred by false realities that their brains made up. It’s a strange thing.

festus, in What's something you'd change in men's fashion, given the chance?

I hate beards so I’d make clean shaven fashionable. No real reason except for my purely personal preference.

9bananas,

pretty sure most men (myself included) find beards just easier to deal with than daily shaves…daily shaving makes my skin unhappy

sideone,
@sideone@lemmy.world avatar

I think we’re past the beard phase in the UK. Which is good, I can’t grow one.

ekky43,

Im having the opposite problem. Over here, everyone and their dog is clean shaven (with a little stupple for the brave) . Bring back luscious beards!

HorrorSpirit, in What's the hottest and coldest temperature you've ever been in?
@HorrorSpirit@lemmy.ml avatar

Coldest was -20° last winter, hottest was 40° (Celsius). I’m not sure about either of these as i didn’t have a thermometer on hand in either situation

teawrecks, in What's a quote that has stuck with you for your whole life?

“I never lose, either I win or I learn.”

As fluffy as this quote sounds, I always find it relevant. From taking on a difficult task at work, to getting past ladder anxiety in a video game. If you’ve ever executed on something so well that afterwards you felt like it was a waste of time, it might be. You didn’t get an opportunity to learn. Which reminds me of another relevant quote, “Losing is fun!”

NiTRo_SvK,

But don’t let that slip into toxic positivity, it’s natural to be upset about losing.

Nemo,

Natural is not always good. Being disappointed or frustrated are acceptable reactions; getting upset is not.

NiTRo_SvK,

Maybe poor choice of words on my part, sad would be better.

teawrecks,

Yeah for sure, we’re all allowed to have emotions. I just find this quote helps me process mine and maybe it will help others with theirs.

Firstly I just want to say that this is really interesting post and I love that you've asked this question. Secondly, as someone who experienced child abuse I don't know where to even start in answering this question because as an adult I'm now in a space where I can actually feel my feelings and express them safely.

I think life is maybe similar to being in a long term relationship. There are times when every little thing life does annoys you or times where it's just eh and you realise you need to actively spice things up. And then there are times when you are completely overcome by joy thinking about how much you love life, how much you've been through together, and how excited you are to spend the rest of your lives together.

If you're looking for a suggestion on spicing things up I highly recommended jumping into some existential philosophy. It's like the intellectual equivalent of a roller coaster I guess.

RoxActually, in What is the craziest thing that's ever happened in your life?

We had a big flood where I live about 10 years ago. Massive amounts of water and whole basements of almost all the homes completely went under water for days. I worked for a clean up crew that summer cleaning up alot of the damage. I was 18 and needed a job and thought it would be a good experience. I was just hired as a temp by a restoration company through a hiring agency though and I found out almost everyone I was working with was the same. The people supervising us, some were not much older than me and had no idea how to run this operation. One day we are in the basement of a large commercial building. Young supervisor tells me and 3 other temps to haul out a heavy washing machine that needs to go to the main level. Only way out was a massive wood staircase that went straight up and contained probably 50 steps. This was an industrial washing machine so it weighed probably a couple hundred pounds. We get it onto a dolly and begin hauling it up the stairs. I am at the top pulling the dolly with another guy while the two others are at the bottom pushing. Thing is so heavy we have to pull it in spurts. So “1…2…3…” then we all move it up one step. We get all the way to the top and only have two more steps. Now remember when I said these basements were fully under water? That was also the case here. The staircase had been under water for days and was now very weak. So we pull the machine up to the step before the landing. As we pull it, me and the guy beside me step onto the landing. The machine goes onto the last step and the connection between the staircase and the landing at the top of the stairs breaks. Whole staircase falls and the two guys below fall with it. Luckily when it all hits the ground, the machine rolls away from the guys and they are hurt, but not seriously. Everyone comes rushing over because the sound is deafening, and me and the other guy are still standing at the top of the landing looking down at everyone. Had we not stepped onto the landing at the moment we did, we would have fallen with the stairs and the machine would have rolled ontop of us. Likely killing or permanently injuring us. It’s amazing how close I was to likely death. We were pulled aside by the safety guy for the crew. I saw him later reaming out the young guy that was supervising us and told us to take the machine up the stairs. I’m pretty sure he was fired that day and he looked so distraught. In hindsight I don’t blame him as he should never have been in that position and it was more a reflection on the bad business practices of the restoration company hiring temps and unqualified supervisors.
