Ignacio, in What movie did you rewatch most often?
@Ignacio@kbin.social avatar

Interstellar. I watched it like 4 times.

mihor, in Those who tried Linux and went back to Windows, what caused you to go back to Windows?

Lobotomy is the correct answer.

in2thesame, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

I completely stopped using it.

noisypine, in What's your real-life superpower?

Grit. Most people think I have some sort of innate natural ability with everything I do. In reality, I just persevere through difficulty and failure, as many times as it takes to arrive at success. The downside is that I have a decent number of things I have tried that I probably should have given up on sooner.

All the time. Still getting my feet wet with lemmy

Bookmeat, in What movie did you rewatch most often?

Predator. Every Christmas and New Year’s.

5in1k, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

Yes, I’m using Lemmy on my phone but on my lunch at work and stuff on my computer it’s Reddit still. I am evangelizing Lemmy though.

CptInsane0, in What movie did you rewatch most often?

The Last Dragon or Ghostbusters, probably. I still watch those both at least once a year. So probably 50+ times for both of those.

8565, in What is your dark figure/shadow person story?

I do hate that Op used Lemmitters instead of Lemmings. It sounds bad

I can hang things straight without using measurement tools. I just ‘sense’ it is straight. A nice power to have.

Skates, in Those who tried Linux and went back to Windows, what caused you to go back to Windows?

First time I ever seriously used Linux was for work, back when I was a developer. You’d have to pay me to use it again. I like gaming, but I don’t like wasting my time troubleshooting games. Nor do I enjoy debugging random crashes/black screens in random drivers. Sure, it’s fun, but if I’m gonna work for it, someone somewhere better be signing my overtime slip. Cause I get a few hours free per day, and I’d rather not deal with sigsegv anymore if I can help it.

Not to mention sound. My job as dev included using ALSA for some use cases. I don’t know if you ever had the misfortune to need to do that or how it went for you, but if I ever need to touch that shit again I will scalp Torvalds with a goddamn headphone jack.

I installed windows 11 when I bought my last PC. I figured I’d give it a shot, see if it’s as bad as all my dev friends say it is. You know how many drivers I’ve had to fix to make my games work? Zero. You know how many hours I spent debugging weird issues? Also zero.

There’s a reason windows has a price tag. And part of that reason is that it works better than free stuff. I’m a believer in FOSS, but if you’re a craftsman and you can’t hammer a nail without needing to adjust your hammer every few swings, you should find a hammer that’s not made out of silly putty and dreams.

dragnet,

Odd that you’ve had so much trouble with Linux. My experience generally had been that it requires more time on initial config, then it just keeps working unless you change something.

crystal,

The issues with games usually arise because people try to run games made for Windows on Linux. Just like you can’t run Linux games on Windows (unless you use WSL, which is just straight up running Linux), you can’t easily run most Windows games on Linux.

MrSlicer,

Years ago I had the opposite issue. The printer driver would rarely work. When I switched to ubuntu for unrelated reasons the printer worked everytime. I suspect that this is very unusual and 99.999% of the time your scenario is more likely. Just wanted to share =).

Naia, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

I I still use it on desktop since I can still use the old design and I run several layers of adblock.

On mobile I basically never use it now unless a search result forces me to it. Lemmy needs work, but I’ve gotten it to a usable state in mobile.

I really home Baconreader makes a lemmy version because that was the only way I used reddit mobile.

RinseDrizzle, in What movie did you rewatch most often?

So there’s several high caliber films I’ve seen a bunch, like Pulp Fiction, Memento, etc… but I think the actual movie I’ve seen the most times is The Room.

For the uninitiated, The Room is the worst movie of all time. Tommy Wiseau wrote, produced, directed, and starred in this disasterpiece. It’s so bad, they made a movie about the book about the making of The Room. It’s like watching a train wreck in slow motion for 90 minutes.

I’ve been responsible for many people’s first viewings, which means I’ve seen it far, far more than I should. I almost got to meet Tommy and Greg (plays Tommy’s best friend in film) at a screening but icy ass rain made the trek too dangerous.

I’d say it’s a must see for anyone who enjoys film. Every other movie will feel better after comparing it to this flaming bag of garbage. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll say “wtf” at least 7 times.

Gatsby,

You just convinced me to watch it, so either thank you or fuck you lmao I’ll keep you posted

RinseDrizzle,

Lolol eager to hear how it goes!

johnthebeboptist,

Greg does the best impression of Wiseau ever. You can find him read the whole book. It’s hilarious

RinseDrizzle,

Oh snap, that would be fun to rip through! Read the book a while back and had a proper hoot with it. Dude has so many stories after bombing around with ol’ Tommy

MrsDoyle, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

I was searching for a fix for some MS bullshit and clicked on a link that had a good answer… and lo and behold, Reddit. “Came for the cats, stayed for the empathy.” Yes, they still have that on the banner. Lol!!

I deleted my account during the “strike”, and this was my first time back. I couldn’t upvote the poster, and for a second that made me sad.

6db, in Have you ever had a hyper realistic dream that you still remember after years?

I once went to work, did all my normal work routines- Went to meetings, filled out my time sheet, requested time off for the holidays, rejected some code, etc. When I got back home I suddenly woke up and was pissed because now I had to actually go to work and do all that shit hahaha
