MrMcMisterson, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

I have a love hate relationship with it. I absolutely love it when I’m consistent with it. When I fall off the wagon, I hate trying to get back into it. Its hard and I could easily just go and do anything else.

sverit, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

For me it was a process of finding a certain sport that does that for me. Try out as many sports that you can. I hate running. I find cycling ok. I love climbing. Sometimes I like lifting. Music and enough sleep make a huge difference for me, I hate working out when I am tired.

IDe, in Why is youtube recommending conservative "talking points" to me?

The best way to tune the algorithm on Youtube is to aggressively prune your watch/search history.
Even just one “stereotypical” video can cause your recommendations to go to shit.

“What Orwell failed to predict is that we’d buy the cameras ourselves, and that our biggest fear would be that nobody was watching.”

There’s no room on Mars for limp dicks.

It’s a quote for a horrible 90s indie film that’s always struck with me for some reason. My social group and I have since taken this quote as an absolute/truism that gets referenced whenever a situation calls for absolute certainty. Because as we all know, there’s no room on Mars for limp dicks.

dditty,

Bad Girls From Mars (1991) if I am not mistaken

eighty, in What's a quote that has stuck with you for your whole life?

If you want to travel fast, go alone; but if you want to travel far, go together.

It’s one of those African proverbs with an unknown origin but their emphasis on community has always been a guiding principle for me.

tryagain,

Love this

dudebro,

I like that, a lot.

Not sure where it is from, misquoting and probably butchering the quote:

“If you think a headache is bad, break your arm then the headache doesn’t feel so bad anymore”

Basically if something is bad, but something worse comes along, then the bad thing doesn’t seem so bad anymore

Update:

Because this has got me thinking, going to update when I quote source ( also don’t want to double post)

Heard in Mass Effect 2, Thane quoting:

“When all the world is overcharged with inhabitants, then the last remedy of all is war, which provideth for every man, by victory or death.” Thomas Hobbes

In a similar vein, this is my fave (which I consistently get wrong but the gist is enough) “I’ve lived through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened.” Mark Twain

nekat_emanresu, in What is a beautiful concept or idea that continues to blow your mind?

The beautiful idea that blows my mind, is how much better the comment section for a question like this post presents is on Lemmy, than Reddit!

ilovecheese, in How much "data" do you personally have?

About 32TB used out of 40TB usable on my NAS and a couple of TB spread across devices.

Mostly media and storage for my selfhosted services.

“Don’t worry about the future. Or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum.”

My second favourite: “Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of '99

Wear Sunscreen.

If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it.

A long-term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists

Whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable, than my own meandering experience.”

yonerboner, in How much "data" do you personally have?

About 60TB of media mostly for plex. Then a lot of personal photos. My music library is about 200GB of mostly FLAC.

HomesliceAbe, in what was your first video game/system you played or remember playing?

I think the first my sister and I played was A Link to the Past. We didn’t know what we were doing, and we didn’t know why the princess and the green guy had the same name… We really got into the series when we watched our dad play Ocarina of Time. Detailed graphics, 3D, a day-night cycle, horse back riding… That game had it ALL.

crossfadedragon,

i watched a friend play alttp at his house but i forgot the name of it afterwards.

some time later my parents took me to best buy and got me the same game.

i recognized it once i got near the water temple in the light world. sounds dumb but that made really happy.

one of my favorite games.

oot was pretty cool too. i beat that and spent so much time just screwing around with a gameshark.

Blizzard, in What is some good things to do with a new pc/laptop/computer?
