It is either a powerful vacuum or a blower depending on the size of the gravel.

a powerful vacuum

A shop vac, maybe with a narrow extender.

If OP is in the US – which I assume he is, from the inch measurement – I’d bet that he can probably rent one at a large hardware store, like Home Depot, if he doesn’t have any use for one outside of this.

superbirra,

If OP is in the US – which I assume he is, from the inch measurement

eh, they could live as well in Liberia or Myanmar

grte, in [Reddit] avoiding Reddit links in Lemmy.

I don’t know about any clients but if you block the lemmit.online bot and the zerobytes.monster bot the reposts will drop by like 90%.

echo,

I’ll have to see about doing that. I don’t want to give reddit any clicks.

wolfshadowheart,

From my understanding when you click on the lemmit.online link it brings you to a redirected archive, not the actual link.

Even still, I agree because it’s annoying having posts with guaranteed no comments. Those posts only work if there is engagement surrounding it. No engagement and it’s just spam.

Some of the main bots that are posting these are all on the same instance that are dedicated to Reddit posts, so you can block those whole instances in your settings

Since reddthat is on lemmy 0.19.1, you should be able to block instance. You can find this setting from lemmy web UI, not sure if it’s already on lemmy mobile apps

Thanks! Much appreciated.

I’m using Jerboa (mostly) and Thunder. Couldn’t see it, maybe I missed it. I’ll look again.

This will probably not help OP, as he’s asking for an Android client.

Desktop users: install Firefox, uBlock Origin, then add reddit.com to your personal user filters. This way you can still access Reddit if you really want to, but it’ll make you think twice before proceeding.

I’m still using Relay for Reddit. Not expensive for me.

jubilationtcornpone, in What's your favorite instrument that really gets through to you?

Pipe Organ. The only instrument with the versatility of an orchestra at your fingertips. It can make the room shake or fill it with quiet whispers.

Sadly, Churches are one of the few places, in the US at least, where you can hear the organ regularly. Ones that can afford to maintain such a large instrument and pay an organist.

theherk,

I posted a similar response. There is a huge Casavant in KC at Helzberg Hall. I heard it when Dr Jan Kraybill was the conservator; may still be, and it was incredible. Worth a trip, and not a church.

banneryear1868,

I’d go to church if… Cory Henry played the organ.

user224, in What are your dental hygiene tips and hacks
@user224@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Yep, you shouldn’t rinse your mouth, because a proper toothpaste has fluoride, which helps remineralize enamel. Keep in mind it won’t restore already decayed enamel though.

Anyway, I am not that sure about electric toothbrushes. At least it’s not necessary. On Wednesday when I’ve been on dental check-up, I asked my dentist whether electric toothbrush would be a good idea. She said “Well… it can be… but you already do pretty good job of cleaning your teeth, so I just recommend you stick to that.” I just use a regular toothbrush. However, just the brushing does take me a while. About 10-12 minutes. Yeah.

Well, something that could be a tip is xylitol chewing gum. Most sugar-free gums use xylitol. It is artificial sweetener that’s actually good for teeth. It helps remineralize teeth like fluoride, remove plaque build up, and it kills acid-producing bacteria. That is because the bacteria consumes it like regular sugar, but it can’t process it, so it just dies. You can also buy xylitol as a powder, because it’s, well, a sweetener.

Now to the disadvantages of xylitol: Consuming larger amounts (I think it’s just around 25g) can cause diarrhea and cramps. It is also extremely toxic to dogs. Just 100mg/1kg can cause them seizures and 500mg/1kg can cause death. Obviously that’s just approximate, so keep your dog away from xylitol.

Disclaimer: I am not a professional in this field.

bakachu,

I do the xylitol gum! I think countries in asia regularly markets this as part of good dental hygiene for those reasons you listed. Some of the gum containers advertise, white healthy teeth. Not sure why the US doesn’t promote xylitol gum more.

spacecowboy,

The USA wants sick and diseased citizens because it’s good for the economy.

ryannathans,

10-12 minutes??? You’re going to get toothbrush abraisions

scytale,

On electric toothbrushes, my hygienist basically told me: Imagine how many times you go back and forth manually with your hand when brushing. Now compare that to how many times an electric toothbrush can do the same in the same time frame. So the latter is more effective.

HollandJim,

Electric toothbrushes are excellent for stimulating the gums and keeping them in good order so they don’t recede. The Sonicare are especially good for this reason.

Shop vacuum

sin_free_for_00_days,

I feel really stupid that this didn’t even cross my mind. I’ll give it a go. Thanks.

FartsWithAnAccent, (edited )
@FartsWithAnAccent@lemmy.world avatar

You probably would’ve thought of it eventually. Gotta ask though: Do you need to remove the gravel? Is it causing a problem?

sin_free_for_00_days,

The tube that actually support the clothes hanging part needs to slide into the hole and the gravel is blocking it.

General_Shenanigans,

I used to live in a house where the gas shutoff valve for the fireplace was in the living room floor, controlled with a little key. It was the perfect size for a marble to fall in and block it.

I found a metal straw and taped it to the end of my vacuum hand attachment, effectively forcing the suction through the straw. I felt I may have been straining the vacuum a bit, but I was able to pull the marble out easy-peasy.

If you have an attachment that fits in that hole, you’re good. If not, you can use a similar method to this.

anon6789,
@anon6789@lemmy.world avatar

If the shop vac can’t get down far enough, duct tape a bit of PVC pipe or some other study tubing to the end of the vacuum hose. The standard nozzle might be too short or wide for getting where you need it, but it should be the quickest way to do what you need.

rab,

Brings back crazy memories of vacuuming the lawn with dad

PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S, in What's your favorite instrument that really gets through to you?
@PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Electric guitar, preferably with heavy distortion. Louder := better.

No but seriously I love heavy music so much. It’s fun to listen to, fun to play, and it’s just had a positive impact on my life. If you want to really tug on my blackened heartstrings, you gotta do it through distortion, preferably an HM-2, in as low a tuning as your guitar can handle.

serpineslair,

Hell yeah.

rab,

Yes everything about this, except downtuning is overrated imo

CptInsane0, in What is an obscure piece of media or videogame that you think nobody else here has heard of?

These religious NES games. The one I remember was called Exodus. It was basically a ripoff of an existing game, but Moses themed.

owenfromcanada,
@owenfromcanada@lemmy.world avatar

Yep, I played one called Joshua. You attacked stuff by blowing a trumpet.

Lookorex, (edited )

I don’t remember what it was called, but one of my cousins had one that he was always playing when we would visit for Thanksgiving. I just remember the cartridge was a bright sky blue

binomialchicken, in Which of the U.S. national parks in this image do you think is the most worth visiting? There are three exceptions.

Niagara Falls isn’t too far out of your area, 9 hours for the American side, maybe 10 for Canadian. Walking on the pier under the Canadian side is incredible, if you are willing to pay for the ferry ride.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

We actually were just there in August. It was amazing!

binomialchicken,

I was really disappointed that I didn’t get to go a second time, during a maintenance a few years ago that had the entire Canadian side blocked dry. Would have been so cool to see how the rock has been shaped.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Oh wow, yeah! I would love to see that!

StickyDango, in what are your fun, low stakes new year resolutions?

Cook one meal from a different country every month. I’ve always loved cooking and I have a partner who is equally as enthusiastic to eat it with me! The foods have to be something I’ve never cooked before. Some can be ones I’ve eaten before, so I have something to compare to. I’m thinking of starting with traditional foods from Afghanistan, Russia, Ethiopia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Uyghur…

viking,
@viking@infosec.pub avatar

Do you know sorted foods on youtube? They have a bunch of different series, one where they do just that, going in alphabetical order from A-Z and then drawing a random country starting with that letter, and then cooking the national dish plus some community recommendations. It’s quite fun!

StickyDango,

Oh, no I haven’t, but thank you for the share, I’ll go take a look. Going out to eat has gone up in price so much that it is pushing me to learn to cook my favourite dishes, and explore flavours I would otherwise never have tasted before.

Something else I had planned to do was once a month, my partner and I write down three countries (six between us) we want to visit or re visit on small pieces of paper. We put them in a cup and draw three countries: First is the main meal, second is dessert, third is an activity.

Definitely more effort involved but it gets him to expand his culinary skills past pasta and chicken wraps.

viking,
@viking@infosec.pub avatar

That sounds like an awesome idea, I might steal that! Thanks for the inspiration! ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
