Also using Memmy. Every now and then I find a bug, but they end up getting patched pretty quickly. I used Apollo before I dropped Reddit, and Memmy feels familiar.
Maybe not super obscure, but I loved BMX XXX on the original Xbox. It was overshadowed my the plethora of other games like Tony Hawk, Aggressive Inline and SSX but I still love it.
If I wanted to see toplees girls on my modded Xbox I would just load up Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball with a nude texture pack. I genuinely enjoyed the riding aspect of the BMX game.
There was a door (plugin) for The text-based *BBS game Legend of the Red Dragon called Violet’s Tavern.
You could sit at the bar and buy a drink that enhanced your stats, You could go upstairs and pay for a hooker to replenish your energy or you could try to seduce the barmaid / owner and actually have kind of a sweet encounter with her.
It had a betting mechanic I don’t remember if it was blackjack, dice or what but you could game it a little bit by throwing a shit ton of money at it a few times. The initial odds to win or somewhat higher than the extended odds to win so if you hit it and hit big you just walk away. Sometimes you ended up empty but more often than not it worked.
An old MS-DOS game from the 90s called Solar Winds, by Epic Megagames. It was top down and you flew around battling spaceships and doing missions in space. I absolutely loved it as a kid. Pretty sure you can get it for free now.
The one I’m using is becoming so buggy to the point of being unusable. It was never really great tbh, what are most people using?
It would probably help if you mentioned which app you are having issues with and what device you are using. I recently stopped using Jerboa because of login issues and started using Voyager. I find it’s less of a smooth experience but some of the other bugs I had with Jerboa like back spacing removing the space before the previous word aren’t present.
As an added question, are bookmarks associated with the lemmy account or the app?

Interesting, I’ve been using jerboa since the great migration, and while it has had its moments, it’s overall been a smooth and enjoyable ride. Early on I had an issue like you’re describing with the sort types, but not in many versions. 0.0.55 is the latest play store version. Might be worth clearing data and cache and re-logging in if you are already on latest
I saw a study that concluded toilet seats in public restrooms were actually one of the cleanest surfaces in the restroom. Don’t dispute that - it just means that the entire area lands somewhere in the spectrum between disgusting and eldritch nightmare. Due to the finding that the toilet seats were cleaner than most other surfaces in the restroom, it further concluded that it was perfectly safe to just plop down bare-assed onto that nastiness.
Abso-fucking-lutely not. The toilet paper bird-nest is a must. A few layers of splash protection toilet paper in the water before I even sit down is a must. ‘Ick’ factor aside, there are enough contact acquired pathogens to justify extreme caution in environments like that. I ain’t risking ass warts over some hypothesis, study, full-blown peer reviewed theory, or anything in between.
Look, as long as you don’t hover-squat or use other techniqies that make it more dirty, you can autoclave the toilet before using it for all I care, so long as that means you actually sit down. I hate seeing poop stains on the rim. That said I will usually sit down without a buffer.
I could see it in Quantity but not the qualities of the pathogens. A disease contracted from a toilet that has had contact with blood and feces versus a grimy membrane keyboard shouldn’t even be a contest.
There is something to be said for using squat toilets instead of sitting toilets in public bathrooms, so long as there are properly cleaned sitting toilets for the elderly and disabled (I have seen some shocking disabled public bathrooms over the years)
Pretty sure the science is very clear that they are. Research papers about smartphones are enough to make the KGB Blush. A study not too long ago looked at the data being collected and sent by TikTok app, turned out the app’s installed data is more spyware than it is the app itself. I like using CalyxOS, which was built up from way back when Android was Open Source, personally because I can disable Microphone and Camera use with the slide-down screen.
At first I thought I was reading AI hallucinations talk. Are you saying people used to get whole encyclopedias through rewards programs? And it wasn’t a scam??
It wasn’t a scam at all! They also had specials where you could get dishes and silverware sometimes! My mom still has an entire set of blue willow that came from the grocery store in the 80s lol
That sounds really nice. I sometimes wish I could’ve experienced that 80s-90s glow. Where things really seemed beneficial rather than some big ploy for money. I guess it’s always been about the money, we just stopped hiding the fact at one point. I also don’t mean to simplify things, the past has been unkind to many people.
I remember grandmas house had character, everything in it meant something. Everything in my house is from Amazon.
There used to be a website with a rubber man floating on the screen. You could move him around with the mouse and make him stretch out in psychedelic colors. Hours spent doodling.
Because someone in the dev team had the time to hook up their continuous integration scripts with Play Store publishing API, to the despair and jealosity of dev teams of all other apps.
This is how software should be managed. You make a change to your software, push one extra button, and in one hour all your users receive it.
In case of open-source projects like Fairemail, your budget is very likely zero or in negatives. Very often it’s one or few developers who make the app basically for their own daily use, and publish it on a ‘use at your own risk’ basis for everyone else. So yeah, if you use any open-source software, please do some testing work if you want it to improve.
“usually” is very generous. Automated testing takes effort to develop and maintain, a lot more than the rest of the CICD pipeline combined. And it’s only one piece of a complete qa strategy, if it’s all you have you’re still using users as testers.
There was a game I played on my grandma’s TurboGrafx 16 many years ago. I cannot remember the name, and searching over the years still has me befuddled.
It was a racing game, but with an RPG element where you had to continually upgrade your car and take on local race champs. I loved it and cannot for the life of me find the damn thing.
Edit: holy shit I think I found it. Final Lap Twin
I’m more shocked that someone actually had a turbografx back then, here I never saw a live one in my life, but it’s a fun little console with some underrated gems, I’m having so much fun going through it’s anime inspired library.
I don’t know where she got it, probably ToysRUs back then. I would play it for hours. We only had an NES at home so we were always blown away at the graphics. Now you can find them in used game shops every once in awhile for 200 bucks, at least around here.
We had a TurboGrafx when I was a kid! We had Shinobi 3 and some game that was supposed to be like Punch Out! But I don’t think it actually was called that.
Yes we should be out to revoke chiropractors’ degrees, but I’m not sure why that’s coming up here since you asked about science specifically. Which chiropractic is not.
No one should be ok with people who run around pretending to be doctors and occasionally paralyzing babies and crippling people by trying to work magic. It’s also revolting that any of it is covered by insurance and health plans, which materially takes real resources away from real medicine for people.
My dad brought home “Xexyz” for NES one year. I have never heard anyone ever reference this game in any nostalgia reviews and had to actually go look up the name myself after vaguely remembering it as that side-scroling NES game that started with an x.
