thorbot, (edited ) in Former religious lemmings, what made you quit religion or stop being a believer?

I was in 5th grade, and I had filled a notebook with questions about the bible and how passages in it contradicted modern science, as well as a bunch of passages from the bible that directly contradicted eachother. My parents took me to a bunch of different christian “scholars” and pastors and none could answer a single question in my notebook, other than “have faith.” It was then that I realized there was probably no god and the bible was a bunch of bullshit. And maybe there is a god, I am not against the idea, but I have still not to this day ever seen or heard empirical evidence that would lead me to believe there is one. Telling your kids they will burn in hell for eternity if they don’t believe in a mystical being is pretty fucked up. I had serious nightmares growing up about what would happen to me in hell. Talk about brainwashing.

YtA4QCam2A9j7EfTgHrH,

It is literally child abuse. I was also terrified of hell before I realized it was all bullshit.

Partner made a jalapeño infusion we call jalapeño-cello (as in limoncello)

Seven Caves Tiki Gin is pretty unusual. Fruity.

And some odd amari I suppose!

    That sounds pretty heartbreaking, I’m sorry you’ve gone through that. Hope you’re in a better place today. If you’re OK with me asking, were your parents under chronic stress to both have developed such psychological traits?

    Zealousideal_Fox900, in What are your "poor person" money life hacks?

    Ride PT when possible. If you are poor, chances are you can get a concession card or even entirely free travel card.

    @threeduck@aussie.zone avatar

    Our PT system (Melbourne Australia) is privately owned and costs $5 each way. Consider not paying and paying a fine if caught - it often works out cheaper. Fines are $200, and I’ve only had my ticket checked maybe 4 times in 6 years. Odds are good!

    Flumsy,

    Arent there any monthly/yearly tickets?

    pruwybn, in What is Something Scientific that you just don't believe in at all?
    @pruwybn@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

    Not sure why you mentioned chiropractors, I thought this was about scientific things.

    fruitycoder, in What are your "poor person" money life hacks?

    Remember a lot of effort and money is spent into brainwashing us from young ages to be constantly be buying shit we don’t need and to feel like we are living bad lives if we don’t have it.

    Remember it’s bullshit, remember that you are more than the fucking trinkets and landfill filling they want you to trade all your time for.

    Boycott shit, find any reasonable moral cause as a good reason not to buy something. There’s almost always a good reason not to buy something that you don’t need.

    SeabassDan,

    I feel like it would take just as much effort and basically a whole other upbringing, in a sense, to become accustomed to all the things we were raised with. So i get what you mean, but I dont know exactly how possible it really is, or none of us would really be here, for example.

    fruitycoder,

    For sure, to me it’s just take every step you can, nothing is ever perfect.

    Milk & honey gin. Doesn’t taste like milk, but once the dregs have evaporated, there’s a lingering smell of sweetened condensed milk.

    kuneho, (edited ) in What Linux distro should I choose?
    @kuneho@lemmy.world avatar

    Debian + KDE Plasma if you want a working, stable operating system.

    but only if you don’t want to experiment, distro hop and god knows what arbitrary challenges to face and never be completely satisfied.

    KeBaBeeN,

    Windows main here but occasionally use Debian, why do you think almost noone in this post recommend Debian? As far as I can tell it works great.

    @programmer_belch@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    I think it’s just too stable, doesn’t get updates that often. That can be detrimental for gaming, leading to having to install up to date drivers yourself.

    kuneho, (edited )
    @kuneho@lemmy.world avatar

    it’s just my opinion, but I think because it’s LTS and has a philosophy behind the OS that doesn’t ring well with hardcore modding.

    I kinda feel that Debian is sort of the “boomer OS” in the community; it just works, the way it works, it’s the “easy route” (if it makes any sense). also, some people doesn’t like APT or initd, I don’t know what’s up with nVidia drivers on Debian, or the support for any other super proprietary stuff.

    you also don’t always get the freshest of stuff with it.

    I personally love Debian, but granted that I haven’t tried out the whole Linux repertoire and I really don’t need too exotic stuff in my life if it’s about my main computer.

    but to me, for developing, working, browsing the web, fuck around with documents, consuming media, networking etc etc., is more than perfect.

    Habanero Brandy Liqueur from Flying Leap Vineyards & Distillery in Elgin, AZ.

    It uses a derivative from the production of their Habanero chili wine, the neutral grape spirits they use to sterilize the habaneros that would normally be discarded. The result is undrinkably hot, but they found they could dilute it and combine with a grape brandy and cane simple for a nice spicy result. Not as spicy as you’d think to be honest considering it is habanero.

    Goes really well in hot chocolate this time of year.

    It’s not particularly rare but the we have a spiced rum called Kilo Kai. It’s mostly sold near Chicago.

    We’ve had a consistent supply from visiting family members over the last few years.

    HeavyRaptor, in Is there an artist whose work you love but was a shitty person?

    I would say Kevin Spacey. The man can act: Usual suspects, Seven, first season of House Of Cards. Shame how he turned out.

    Hucked - A Huckleberry Bourbon that is as good as it sounds. It’s by Lolo Creek Distillery out of Lolo, Montana.

    stoy, in What's the best gaming console and why?

    For me it is the Gamecube, it was the first console I bought new and got invested in.

    Mario Kart Double Dash is also the best Mario Kart.

    I sold mine way too early, but a decade later I bought a good used one with MK:DD and Bomberman

    TehBamski, in What's the best gaming console and why?
    @TehBamski@lemmy.world avatar

    The gaming console is one you own or the one with the games you want to play. PC is also a good option.
