Siethron, in What's a food you forget you like? Then you eat it, and wonder why you don't buy it more often?

I love egg nog, looked into how to make it. It’s takes over an hour to make, so definitely won’t get it out of season

JudahBenHur,

dont forget to make it WAY before you need it- its not fun to try to power-chill hot fresh nog when guests will be there in an hour

ettyblatant,
@ettyblatant@lemmy.world avatar

Get outta here with that Hot Fresh Nog!

Is my new favorite thing to say.

JudahBenHur,

please let me know how many times you are able to work it into conversations in the next year or so

Falafel

Lemminary, (edited )

From the House of Anárion? (Jk, I had never heard of this food and sounds like either a warrior or a place in Middle Earth)

squiblet,
@squiblet@kbin.social avatar

It's like fried chickpea patties or nuggets. Sort of like if you made fried hummus bread. Super good with tzatsiki (yogurt/cucumber) or tahini (sesame) sauce. Sometimes it's served in a pita with lettuce, tomatoes and sprouts.

FauxPseudo,
@FauxPseudo@lemmy.world avatar

I was at the Del Mar Fair once and got some super green falafel. It was awesome. I’ve spent 30 years chasing that high.

tiredofsametab, in What was the last dumb phone you had before your first smartphone?

Some flip-phone from Sprint, though I can't even recall the name now. It had the ability to play text-based games and even snake! I think I was carrying a Palm Pilot near the end of that. It was an upgrade from the first brick I kept in my car for emergencies only. In 2004ish, I upgraded to a Siemens SX66 (Windows-based smartphone) and ditched the Palm Pilot. I continued to use Windows phones (I think I ended with an HTC Hero or something similar), until finally being convinced by borrowing a friend's old iPhone to get one of those. Was on iPhone from 3gs until 6plus. I made the jump to Android when Pixel 6 Pro came out, and that's what I still have today.

TechNerdWizard42,

Another early 2000’s smartphone user. Whoop whoop. It seems to blow people’s mind that you could have a colour touchscreen smartphone years before the stupid iPhone was even invented.

gandalf_der_12te, in Can anyone else feel sensations in their brain?

Yes, happens a lot. I would be very surprised if the brain had no nerve endings at all, given that almost all human tissue has nerve endings in it (except hair maybe).

I guess what you feel is a complicated mixture of:

  • blood and fluid pressure
  • electric discharges in your brain, kinda tingling
  • placebo
magnetosphere, in Why is *all* of Lemmy filled with Anti Israel content?
@magnetosphere@kbin.social avatar

I can’t speak for others, but as I see it, the Israeli government is committing atrocities on a daily basis. So is Hamas. I’m against senseless violence in general, but since the IDF has the upper hand and has killed the most civilians in the current conflict, I’m more likely to complain about them.

Neil, in Which items/products were you once able to get from local shops on a whim that you now more or less have to order online?
@Neil@lemmy.ml avatar

Unfortunately, anything non-perishable. I go into local shops and can search an item I want on the internet and it will always be way, way cheaper. Cheap enough to where I can’t justify “supporting local business.” I’d love to, but I’m just as broke as everyone else right now.

Nemo, in Which items/products were you once able to get from local shops on a whim that you now more or less have to order online?

Bull Boxer sneakers

swordsmanluke, in Can anyone else feel sensations in their brain?

If it’s like a pleasant tingling through your head, it might be ASMR. It can be triggered by sounds (hence the bajillion YouTube channels), but for me it’s more often when I’m really enjoying thinking about something. It’s a weird sensation for sure.

qantravon, in Which items/products were you once able to get from local shops on a whim that you now more or less have to order online?

Electronic components. Almost all small parts shops are gone.

ani, in Why is *all* of Lemmy filled with Anti Israel content?

Lemmy originally has an anti-west bias. That naturally spans to general communities as well

vivadanang, in What's a food you forget you like? Then you eat it, and wonder why you don't buy it more often?

Indian food mostly, but only because the best places are a drive away.

IonAddis,
@IonAddis@lemmy.world avatar

What’s your favorite Indian dish?

vivadanang,

I like a big bowl of Rogan Gosht with some chicken biryani (my wife’s fav) and loads of naan. I’m not refined lol, just like that lamb and that chicken saffron yogurty stuff.

IonAddis,
@IonAddis@lemmy.world avatar

I frickin’ love lamb dishes, and I get so grumpy that lamb/mutton is unpopular in the US, so it’s hard to find. It’s tasty!

Pons_Aelius,

I frickin’ love lamb dishes

If you ever get a chance, try goat curries. They will rock your world.

Pat_Riot,
@Pat_Riot@lemmy.today avatar

Goat is even harder to find in the US.

jaybone,

Most Indian places will have a goat curry.

squiblet,
@squiblet@kbin.social avatar

hardcore Mexican places make it... birria.

Bishma,
@Bishma@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

I go on Indian food kicks sometimes, where I’ll end up eating once or twice a week for months then I’ll go years without thinking about it again.

jcrabapple, in What Linux OS & Desktop Environment (DE) or Windows Manager (WM) do you use?
@jcrabapple@infosec.pub avatar

Nobara with Gnome. Fedora Kinoite (KDE). Debian 12 with gnome.

crackajack, in What was the last dumb phone you had before your first smartphone?

I would not call these on the picture “dumb phones” though.

I had a Motorola phone. I actually liked it because it had a really good camera. The native photo editor was also top notch at the time.

Socsa,

They were called “feature phones” at the time.

Xyre, in What Linux OS & Desktop Environment (DE) or Windows Manager (WM) do you use?

Arch + XMonad

Synthead, in Any idea what is on his headphones? This is the synthwave radio kid on the lofi girl YT channel

I always imagined it as a spinoff inspired by these
