curlconverter.com converts browser requests to code, huge time saver

Buck,

The Dev tools in Firefox (and probably other browsers) can do this, too. Not just curl, also fetch and other formats

developer,

Yeah I’m copying those requests to curl and then put it inside the website to have a working Python code

    GregorGizeh, in Any advice for someone who broke bones that need surgery to fix?

    I triple broke my ankle last year, so let me tell you it sucks tremendously.

    Depending on the severity of your fracture you will be spending a couple months on crutches, and then up to a year doing physical therapy to restore mobility and the lost muscle and circulatory function in your leg(s).

    As for the surgery itself, my ankle was broken in three places and basically turned around 180 degrees, so in a first surgery my foot and leg were fixated using metal rods that were pierced through my ankle and screwed into my shin bone, to allow the swelling to reduce.

    Then some days later, the external fixture got removed again and the foot was placed and fixated in an orthopedic boot, a modern version of plaster casts that can be removed intermittently.

    Now, almost 18 months later I am still not completely done, because the third surgery to remove leftover metal elements in my leg has caused the massively scarred area to heal very poorly, causing a fucking antibiotics resistant infection in the wound as well.

    In short, you have my sympathies, it fucking sucks so much.

    Oh jeez. I really hope I don’t have a recovery like that. I expect it to be so rough though. Idek what is going to be done. I haven’t met my surgeon yet. It’s late here, so everything is being done in the morning. They put me in a special splint and have me on pain meds.

    GregorGizeh,

    Yeah it probably won’t be as bad, but still. Not a fun experience.

    On the plus side, the pain meds are pretty fun. Through that whole ordeal I sampled a wide range of them, ketamine (ketanest) was probably the most intense. Felt like someone rolling a huge, soft but very loud boulder over me.

    LaunchesKayaks,
    @LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world avatar

    I had fentanyl in the ambulance and it made me super talkative. I had morphine earlier and that was fun. It has worn off and I have no idea what I’ll be getting next.

    Mouselemming,

    When you do meet your surgeon, don’t worry if they aren’t a people person. The skill you need is in their hands, not their personality. When you meet the anesthesiologist, (and general advice with all medical personnel) be honest about anything they ask you, like about previous drug experiences. They don’t ask to judge you, it’s to judge what and how much to give you, and how to expect you might react.

    LaunchesKayaks,
    @LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world avatar

    I’ve had experiences with surgeons, so I won’t be surprised if this guy is kind of an ass. Idgaf as long as he fixes me. Every anesthesiologist I’ve met have been so nice

    port87.com

    An email service that uses addresses like yourname-appname@port87.com to organize all your email into a folder for every app/service.

    You can also make these addresses screen senders before their email goes through, for something like yourname-friends@port87.com.

    You can mark them as public and they’ll be included in a list if someone emails the bare address (yourname@port87.com), so you can share your bare address all over the internet without getting spam.

    (Full disclosure: I created and operate this service.)

    Tuggles,

    So, you can do this with gmail already. What’s your pitch on why someone should use Port87 instead of Gmail (besides the obvious Google is evil, etc.)?

    kaffeeringe,
    @kaffeeringe@feddit.de avatar

    It’s not Google. I’m sold.

    atoro,

    A lot of services have stopped accepting + addresses as valid, or even stripping them before saving. So at least for a while, - addresses could be more useful

    emptiestplace,

    It is trivial to strip +xyz from all of the email addresses in a list.

    bitwaba,

    Same for -xyz…

    njinx,

    If you read the website they have a workaround. Email sent to the bare address will Be denied and receive an automated response.

    Forbo,
    @Forbo@lemmy.ml avatar

    Buy a domain, set up a catch-all and use servicename@yourdomain. Boom.

    rappo,

    you can also just buy your own domain and set it up your gmail/whatever as the catchall, then use appname@mydomain.com

    abraxas,

    Last I saw, Google charges for this. More than this guy’s service.

    Also, it seems like his service is about automatically having username-category email addresses. Definitely not hard to replicate, but it circumvents the common blocking of plus-signs in email addresses you see nowadays. And while not hard, it’s a bit less trivial to catch any old email with a dash in it and “magically” convert it to a category in the main inbox.

    rappo,

    Google doesn’t even factor into this. Go to your registrar of choice (namecheap, etc), buy a domain, and setup that domain to forward all emails to your email address.

    So if you have abraxas@gmail.com and you just bought abraxas.me, in namecheap you can setup *@abraxas.me to go to your gmail account, and then sign up for sites using whatever@abraxas.me you want. There’s no + or - involved, use any word you want. Signing up for lemmy.world? lemmyworld@abraxas.me will go right to your gmail (or whatever email you use)

    abraxas,

    Fair point. That is free. I guess it would boil down to what the mail categorization would look like in this guy’s service. I will say I thought it was odd that it isn’t just mail middleware with the guy struggling with having to build his IMAP in node.js.

    squidspinachfootball,

    Are you able to differentiate between emails as they come in? E.g., seeing an email was sent to lemmyworld@abraxas.me vs spammynewsletter@abracas.me?

    rappo,

    indeed. It comes in as reallyshadywebsite@squidspinachfootball.xyz, so not only can you easily filter/label them, but you can immediately tell who had a security breach and/or sold your email.

    xigoi,
    @xigoi@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

    Where is the pricing?

    hperrin,

    I don’t have it on the promotional site right now, but here’s the breakdown:

    • Receive unlimited mail, 500MB storage: Free
    • Send unlimited mail*: $1/month
    • 2GB extra: $2/month
    • 10GB extra: $6/month
    • 20GB extra: $10/month
    • 100GB extra: $20/month
    • 1TB extra: $40/month

    There are upcoming features that I haven’t done the market research and cost analysis for yet to determine pricing, but these are the features that are still in development:

    • Native mobile app (right now it’s a PWA): Free
    • IMAP/SMTP/CardDAV for third party clients and to import/export/sync: Undetermined price
    • Custom domain with unlimited addresses: Undetermined price
    • Additional users for you custom domain: Undetermined price
    • The reason for charging $1/month to send email is so that spammers won’t use my service to send spam. A spammer is very unlikely to divulge their real payment information.
    xigoi, (edited )
    @xigoi@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

    That sounds reasonable! Though personally, I definitely wouldn’t use an e-mail service without IMAP support.

    hperrin,

    I feel you. Technically, the service is in a public beta test, only because I don’t have all the features complete yet.

    I have the IMAP spec printed out in a binder at my desk. I have to write the server myself because of how Port87 works (I can’t just use an off-the-shelf server, like Dovecot). But I’m working hard to get IMAP support out soon! :)

    PS: also, once I do write it, the IMAP server will be open source, just like the CardDAV server I’m working on.

    dwindling7373, in What do you like about the vehicle you drive and would you have changed anythin about it?

    I drive a metal bike. It’s a bit heavy but for €200 it’s good and I save on gym and stuff. I regret not getting the front basket. Please don’t repeat the same mistake I did, it’s not worth it when you go for groceries.

    Professorozone,

    You know you can get a trailer for the bike. I made one and use it to get groceries and it has plenty of space. Holds almost as much as my small car.

    dwindling7373,

    I do know but then I would occupy almost as much space as your small car. (I don’t have the storage space for your small car)

    Professorozone,

    OK. I hear you but for the record I meant the trunk space of my small car, not the whole car. They make bike trailers in different sizes and some fold up.

    qdJzXuisAndVQb2,

    I got a front tray thingy, strongly recommend. It means my cargo volume is limited only by my own ingenuity with my elastic cords, i.e. still quite a lot but a bit less than with a basket.

    Everythingispenguins, in Any advice for someone who broke bones that need surgery to fix?

    You are going to be on some heavy painkillers for a little while. Really not a big deal, just remember no matter how you feel good/bad, ect. You thinking will be a little off. Don’t make any real decisions and don’t worry if your mood is weird. Just ride it out for a little bit and the cone back to your self.

    givesomefucks,

    You are going to be on some heavy painkillers for a little while. Really not a big deal,

    For most people…

    A small but significant amount of people metabolize opioids faster than they should.

    So if they’re supposed to take a pill every 8 hours, they might get 2x as fucked up the first 4 and no pain relief for 4 hours till their next.

    Which is like a recipe for prescription misuse and eventually opiod addiction. Especially when doctors up the dosage instead of spreading more pills throughout the day.

    bigfish,

    And if you are one of these people whose pain isn’t controlled, or you’re feeling overly fucked up - CALL YOUR DOCTOR RIGHT AWAY. Better to be an annoying patient once, who’s just trying to get their pain under control, than to risk addiction. Shit’s no joke.

    As givesomefucks said, Docs have other options besides just uping the dose, but you may have to advocate for it. Different timing, different meds and combinations, and even RICE can do some magic.

    I would never have thought of that, but it would be awesome!

    I’d like to be able to pull off “Classified” by C.W. McCall. Two and a half minutes of slightly melodic, high speed storytelling. I think Convoy would be more well known and far easier.

    For all my fellow mechanical engineers out there, Custom Parts is an incredible tool for estimating tooling and production costs for injection molding, die casting, stamping, you name it. For runs all the way from 50 parts to 2 million I’ve found the estimates there to be consistently within 10% of the quotes we’ve gotten from suppliers
