HooPhuckenKarez, in What popular quote are you tired of hearing?

Pull yourself up by your bootstraps. Especially when used by people claiming to have done just that.

Xariphon,

Especially when you consider that it was coined to refer to literally impossible action. It's not meant to be about self-reliance or whatever, it's something that cannot be done.

Not a quote, just a single word that’s overused to death, and you can probably already guess the word…

“Woke”

Just shut the fuck up! Please please please just shut up!

Neither. Wiping is a waste of potential ammunition that I could use against my enemies.
Monkeys flinging poop. Relevant note: the avatar of the user sending this message shows a smoking chimp.

“think of how stupid the average person is, and then think half of them are dumber than that”

So heavily overused.

Cqrd, in Why are people reacting surprised about the events in Israel?

A hundred years, and no, not quite. The myth of them being at war for hundreds of years is spread mostly by evangelical Christians who want to sow divide.

They’ve mostly been in a “peaceful” state recently where Israel has been treating Palestinians as a sort of worse apartheid state. This has allowed for build up of a terroristic group (Hamas) that performed a massive surprise attack, some believe with the backing of Iran. Hamas is basically the ISIS of Palestine. This attack was a surprise because Israel has been relying heavily on technology to spy on and suppress any threats, but Hamas planned their attacks without technology. If Hamas wins, things won’t necessarily be better for Palestine, they’ll just have different oppressors.

Israel is definitely bad here, but Hamas isn’t great. Everyone doing the fighting sucks, the civilians are the only good people involved in this and they’re being massacred. Everyone here deserves better.

Psythik, in Why are 90% of the images WebP format?

I thought webp was just a container format?

Turun,

No, it’s an image compression format derived from the VP8 codec.

SiriusCybernetics, in What popular quote are you tired of hearing?

“ One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

tigeruppercut,
SiriusCybernetics,

Now that’s interesting. Always thought it didn’t make a whole lot of sense strictly speaking. Never realized he intended the “a”.

“actually we’re a republic” when someone defends democracy

rbos,

Well technically, we’re a constitutional monarchy with the King of Canada as our nominal head of state. Gosh. Though I wouldn’t mind opening that discussion.

pezmaker, in Are those rust spots?
@pezmaker@sh.itjust.works avatar

I’m not a health expert, take this with a grain of salt. I’d be disappointed it was rusting, but also mostly shrug it off and keep using it unless it gets bad and flaky/scaley

Hamartiogonic, in Are those rust spots?
@Hamartiogonic@sopuli.xyz avatar

Looks like it could be rust. Even if it it’s, that’s not really a problem. You can probably get rid of the rust by cleaning the teapot a bit better next time.

I don’t see any problem with continuing to use it in the future. If you’re worried about microbes colonizing the place, remember two things:

  1. When not in use, keep it empty and dry.
  2. Clean it every now and then.

BTW, aren’t teapots usually ceramic?

Varyk, in Are those rust spots?

Yes, that is rust, but it’s in no way dangerous, and you can also scrape it off with any abrasive scrub if you don’t like the look of it

lemmie689, in Are those rust spots?
@lemmie689@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

There is a product called CLR, calcium lyme and rust remover, available at hardware stores.

SheDiceToday,

Isn’t CLR basically vinegar? All the other stuff in it is just to obfuscate how cheaply you could achieve the same effect.

safesyrup, in How does one create a sub-group at Lemmy?

You choose an instance where you want to create your community on and click „create community“ on the respective server‘s sidebar

Justly0250,
@Justly0250@lemdro.id avatar

and for promotions you could use !newcommunities

otter,

Then later on there’s also !communityPromo

nachtigall,

As a side note, OP’s instance does not allow new communities.

maegul,
@maegul@lemmy.ml avatar

But users can moderate communities on instances other than their own. So it’s common for a user to create an account on another instance just to create a community, then add their main as a moderator just for convenience. So it’s not a show stopper if OP wants to keep using this account.

wowwoweowza,

I mean instance

wowwoweowza,

This explains so much. What is a better community for me?
