Bonehead, (edited ) in You have to spend the rest of your life in a micronation. Which do you choose?

As long as I can have satellite internet and have supplies delivered, I'm picking the Kingdom of Redonda.

Rentlar, in You have to spend the rest of your life in a micronation. Which do you choose?

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laàs#Principality_of_Laàs

Being in a temperate part of France sounds pretty great, especially if I got a room in Chateau de Láas.

unreachable, in What is something you watch/do but not for its intended purpose?

watching porn to learn about different shapes and sizes of body anatomy

HenchmanNumber3, in You have to spend the rest of your life in a micronation. Which do you choose?

Also you can’t just make your own micronation wherever you want. It has to already exist.

This kind of makes the concept of a micronation useless. The point is that anyone can make their own nation with their own rules wherever they are or go. If you have to pick someone else’s, then it’s no different than picking someone else’s recognized nation.

DreamySweet, in What do you call this place?

Crunskguloria.

nugmeister64, in What brand/model of pants can you recommend?

I’m not sure about how it works in Europe, but in the U.S., military surplus clothing is an excellent budget friendly, durable option. I will say that the stitching can sometimes be spotty, but if you know how to sew, you can get a pair of pants that can stand toe to toe with brands like Carhartt and Dickies for 20-30 dollars less.

MicrowavedTea, in What is something you watch/do but not for its intended purpose?

Watching game shows like the voice or masterchef of other countries to get a feeling of “real” language/accents. Usually movies or the news use a more formal and clear language but when you understand these shows you know you can understand people in everyday conversations.

SeedyOne, in What is something you watch/do but not for its intended purpose?

I used to use the narrator’s voice from old “How It’s Made” episodes to put me to sleep at night.

balderdash9,

Relatable. I watch how it’s made, unwrapped, and cooking competition shows

SgtAStrawberry,

I used to watch Extreme Engineering for that, I was usually out by the middle of the second episode.

SeedyOne,

You just unlocked a memory, that show was perfect for it but I’d completely forgot the name. I can see the intro in my head, that little animation.

Devi,

When I was younger and went out all night often me and my flatmates used to wake up and watch that until we felt better. Like 4 hours of it every saturday and sunday morning.

SeedyOne,

That’s great. Calm and informative hangover cure.

SharkAttak, in You have to spend the rest of your life in a micronation. Which do you choose?
@SharkAttak@kbin.social avatar

Mentions Sealand

nodsocket,

Tangent5280,

@bfg9k@lemmy.world avatar

It absolutely does not lol

LillyPip,

Mint_Raccoon, in What is something you watch/do but not for its intended purpose?
@Mint_Raccoon@kbin.social avatar

I use long cooking spoons to move (or knock down) objects until they're in my reach. I'm five feet tall, so a lot of things are out of my reach.

Slowy, (edited )
@Slowy@lemmy.world avatar

A good pair of tongs is gamechanger. But in a perfect world I would be able to use a dino head grabber

Appoxo, in What brand/model of pants can you recommend?
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Had some Diesel ones and my current favorite jeans are from Scotch&Soda and from PME Legend

qooqie, in Can external dopamine intake influence one's logic and reasoning?

That’s called drugs and yes it usually impacts their reasoning

smotherlove, (edited ) in Can external dopamine intake influence one's logic and reasoning?

Of course. Your personality and consciousness are entirely defined by three things: Your memories, your current surroundings, and the current chemical state of your brain/body. Changing any of those will change your logic and reasoning because reasoning in a vacuum is something only computers do.

For examples of changes that would drastically alter the thought process of even the most stoic, rational person, here:

  • Memories: Amnesia from brain injury
  • Surroundings: Being trapped in a coffin full of centipedes
  • Brain chemistry: Being high on methamphetamine

Any of these things will immediately demonstrate that we are not computers or logic machines.

Nemo,

TBF if you change the chemistry of your circuit boards the computer won’t work the same either.

Same with removing stored settings files.

Honestly, probably same after a certain amount of time with the centipede coffin.

duffman, in What is your favorite time travel movie or show?

Not my absolute fAvorite but I think most time travel fans would appreciate this absolute gem of a movie: I’ll Follow You Down.

It’s dark beautiful and underappreciated.

shinigamiookamiryuu, in You have to spend the rest of your life in a micronation. Which do you choose?

Pitcairn

kerrypacker,

Do you like inbreeding and sexual abuse?

shinigamiookamiryuu,

Not really, but it wouldn’t be inbreeding if I’m an immigrant there (by definition). I take the second thing with a grain of history; before the UK decimated the place by issuing a war draft and taking everyone to go fight in WWII, it had as many people as a regular small American town, and what followed was a chain of sensationalism.
