I have two mastodon accounts that I barely use. I realized that I just don’t like twitter style social media in general. Same with pixelfed. I didn’t have accounts on the centralized alternatives to begin with. And I think that is fine. Centralized or not, social media that focuses on displaying your personal image is a scourge on humanity.
Lemmy completely replaced Reddit for me because overall the userbase on Lemmy is friendlier, and the quality of the content is better here. I reckon that once the normies flood, so will the toxic people.
I agree on the Twitter-style social media thing. I almost never used Twitter in all the years it existed, so I also don’t really post on Mastodon much. I used Instagram to share photography with friends/family overseas and so Pixelfed could potentially be of value to me, but I understand not using it if you never used Insta in the first place.
As for Lemmy/Reddit, I think the quality of content heavily depends on what your interests are. There’s plenty of good content for certain subjects (e.g. tech stuff) but I find Lemmy is sorely lacking in other areas, and so you tend to lose out on some of the diversity of opinion that made Reddit so good (or at least good to me). That’s largely been my issue with Lemmy overall and I think why I don’t use it as much as I used to use Reddit — a lot of the stuff just isn’t there yet, or if there is a community there might only be like 3 people posting.
I agree with you about Lemmy content. Tbh it might be an unpopular opinion but I also miss the diversity of the meme shitposting on Reddit because sometimes it was nice to just scroll and look at dumb shit. Lemmy in general has more involved content, which is great and high quality, but sometimes just missing what I’m craving.
I do really appreciate how much more LGBTQ+ friendly Lemmy is though. Reddit was getting grossly transphobic and I’m not trans but I ain’t about that life.
I don’t necessarily miss the memes, and a lot of the jokes would get repeated to death because everyone wanted their chance to say them, but I do find some of the Lemmy communities I follow can be kinda self-serious at times. I guess with a larger audience (Reddit), there was just more room for a joke or meme to land without derailing the thread or annoying people.

I get what you’re saying, but I think that’s kinda reductive. When I see a picture on Facebook of my uncle on his dirt bike all smiles after winning a race, I think that’s a positive and fruitful use of social media.
And personally, I like sharing a picture of a cosplay I made, hopefully to help someone else who might be on a similar creative path. Or at least to discuss creative processes.
I guess this is my actkually moment, but I think your assessment is off.
The PMC. I’m a professional worker from a rural upbringing and a lot of my coworkers came from wealthier backgrounds with highly educated parents. I don’t really do anything to “handle it” it’s just noticeable cultural differences.
A bit tongue in cheek reference but professional-managerial class. Essentially people who work for a living but make above average salaries and don’t really associate, and/or consider themselves superior to, more industrial or blue collar working class. Working class but adopt more bourgeoise values.
I live in Singapore, and because of that, I’m associated with Singaporeans.
I hate it because they’re generally spoilt af, complaining all the time. They also tend to make fools of themselves overseas by being noisy and difficult. We’re probably like this because Singapore is run in a really great way, and when compared to other countries, things may be slower or just done differently.
I try my best not to be like that and I will actively avoid Singaporeans if I see them overseas (you can tell by their accent and loud voices).
And how much they say “La” in a passive aggressive way. Man, I’m tolerant to it because I don’t know the culture that well, but it still annoys the shit out of me.
To be fair, we use lah in almost every context, not just passive aggressiveness. But yeah singaporeans tend to be passive aggressive af, now that you mention it.
Yeah someone tried to explain le, lah, leh to me one time but I didn’t understand the nuance. They all sound kinda whiny to me tbh. Not trying to sound like an asshole, I don’t look negatively on people who use it, but for some reason it bothers me. I guess I just don’t get it lol
Yes I’ve noticed it from Indonesians as well, but less so. Anyways I just chalk it up to me being an ignorant foreigner. It rubs me the wrong way for whatever reason, but I’m sure it’s just because I don’t understand it. I don’t let it affect my judgement of people. Thanks for your candid responses
It’s a blessing to be at a company where you can share that info. Looking for work now, but that’s one thing I’m looking for…a company that’s open enough to share how I’ve impacted the overall business.
I hope you can find a company as good as mine. I feel appreciated and cared for for the first time at a job. I broke my ankle and leg in October and had to have surgery to fix it. Everyone has been incredibly accommodating and supportive during my recovery. When I was in the hospital after the injury, I was either too high or crying too much to update my bosses on my condition. My mom did the calling for me and the owner of the company had her tell me that I don’t need to worry about keeping my job and focus on recovering. I ugly cried when I was told that.

Uses: similar to how I used instagram a long time ago, but I wish I could see more friends on it. Right now it’s mostly creatives and photographers
Tangential to the question, but Elvis was famously censored from the waist down in an early TV appearance for being too sexy. Then, of course, lots and lots of rock in the ‘free love’ 60s and 70s was explicitly about drugs.
Going from ‘sex and drugs’ to ‘of the devil’ is a pretty short line to draw for some people.
The core of Abrahamic religion is based around an in-group / out-group ideology. When you dove-tail off that premise it is clear that Abrahamic religion uses labelism such as “evil” or “from the devil” in order to obfuscate their suppression and opression of the out-group.
