I only recently started using uBlock but it’s not really because of ads (which I don’t mind too much as long as they don’t prevent me seeing the page content). I use it mainly to automate the rejection of cookie popups, which have become absolutely absurd.
for what it’s worth, you can make your phone’s flashlight serve the same purpose as those old notification lights. more harsh and no colors, but it’ll get your attention
Not really, because to see that, you have to put your phone with the screen down on the table. That both ruin the quiet mode function, and increases risk of wear of the screen glass from hard surfaces.
For me it’s this (the color coded notification LED on phones) and while on the topic of phones I used to have a xiaomi phone several years ago that had an infrared face unlock feature so you could use face unlock in complete darkness. Haven’t had a phone with that before or after. It was awesome.
Unfortunately only chrome has full support for Dragon professional, and Edge can be made to work. The dragon extension for Firefox stopped working and Microsoft, who now own dragon, doesn’t have any incentive to fix it.
The unofficial supper via the ClickbyVoice extension doesn’t have a Firefox version.
I would love to hear alternatives that support link numbering and voice commands :)
My first conscious memory is of me gaining consciousness at age 3 or so. Everything before that are visual or tactile memories that are difficult to describe.
Anyway, when I had children myself, I suddenly remembered a lot more of those. Things that I never knew that I remembered somehow got recalled by watching my own child do the same things. So at age 40 I vividly and weirdly remembered what it’s like to be standing in a crib, holding and twisting the bannisters.
Tactile memories are weird. I’ve always enjoyed coming to my grandparents house later in life, because of the way the handles on the cupboards feel just the way they’re supposed to.
Another option is SearXNG. It’s meta search engine, which means that it aggregates other search engines like Google and Bing but without tracking or logging, because your searches are proxied using a public instance, that will mix your search with the ones from other people.
And about default search engine, don’t know what you’re talking about, both chrome and Firefox allows this, in mobile and desktop.
my local electricity company just let half of our city without energy from 15h Christmas eve to 08 on Christmas morning. Here in Brazil the tradition is to eat at midnight and then exchange gifts. This year it was not possible for me, my family and my friends.
I like the idea of a deliberate and rational society. Unfortunately we need to be cautious with this kind of thing and pay attention to where others have failed in the past.
I don’t use an adblocker. 90% of the sites I visit don’t abuse ads. When I was younger I used to go to sketchy sites to watch content for free, but now I’m in a position where I can pay for the content so I do. The last time I pirated something was an anime because no streaming service offered it, I had to buy blu rays.
Also, I like targeted ads. Most of the time you can ignore them, but every once in a while they show you something interesting that you do actually want. I’ve picked up a few board games that way. I didn’t buy it through the ad, but it did cause me to start researching it.
Boardgaming, kind of sort of. I think the other family households have some boardgames in their houses, like the usual ones that most people have, but I’ve got a boardgame and ttrpg collection that I’ve sunk thousands of dollars into worth of games and shelving for. It’s just on a different level.
