TheInsane42, in What is the most user repairable robot vacuum cleaner?
@TheInsane42@lemmy.world avatar

We have a Roomba I’ve replaced the main wheels on. They seem to have a good availability of spare parts as well, although they are in big units. I haven’t found a way to replade the tracks of the main wheels, as the ‘tires’ are the issue here, not the rest of the unit. They wear fast with uneven flooring.

LemmySoloHer, in Mayo, mustard or ketchup?
@LemmySoloHer@lemmy.world avatar

If you’re wondering who puts mayo on a hotdog, the answer is “probably one of your brothers,” according to Clint Barton.

jubilationtcornpone, in What has been the best thing that has happened to you so far?

That’s a long list but here’s a few things.

  • Going to therapy.
  • Being willing to forgive and make peace with my dad.
  • Seeking medical treatment for my ADHD.
  • Getting a septoplasty. (Who knew being able to breathe through you nose was so great.)
  • Divorcing my first wife, who is a truly awful person.
  • Saying yes to a date with my (now) wife, who is an awesome person.
  • Learning to love myself just the way I am.
  • Taking an active role in managing my finances.

“You are not fat, you are delicious”

Then give her some love bites!

honeybadger1417, in How to respond to gf saying "I'm fat"

Sometimes people will say something negative about themselves because they’re hoping you will say something positive, instead. I used to do the same thing. Whenever I was feeling insecure about my looks or weight, I would say something negative about myself, because my husband would tell me it wasn’t true and would give me compliments that would boost my self-confidence. I don’t do that anymore, because it’s not a very healthy way to be confident in yourself, but it certainly was effective. Do you think maybe your girlfriend is just feeling insecure about herself? I would talk to her about that to see if maybe it’s something she’d like to work on in herself. You can also try to give her honest compliments on a regular basis. It’s hard for a girl (or guy!) to feel unattractive if her loved one is telling her twice a day that her shirt looks good on her, or he loves her laugh, or he thinks she’s pretty.

nobloat,

I think it’s because if dumb people commenting about every little change of appearance. Sadly we live in one of those places where people comment on these things all the time. They told her she is to thin before now they tell her she gained weight. There’s no way to win with them, and sadly usually they are close family members that you can’t just avoid.

DogWater, in What has been the best thing that has happened to you so far?

Meeting my fiance by miles. It isn’t even a contest.

A distant second, which is still miles above anything else below it on the list, is buying a good house in a cheap (bad) neighborhood at 3.1% interest 30 yr fixed.

Gallardo994, in What is a nifty little feature modern gadgets have lost?

I don’t really miss 3.5mm, neither do I miss SD card slots. I don’t even miss replaceable batteries and all that stuff. But I do sincerely miss good devices with physical keyboards. Damn I wish Blackberry came back for a good flagship.

captainjaneway, in How do you think social media platforms should work?
@captainjaneway@lemmy.world avatar

Remove voting. Remove likes. Remove any semblance of a point based system.

How to determine which posts are displayed on the frontpage? If it should be a platform that works similar to reddit or lemmy.

garbagebagel, in What is the goofiest Christmas present you received this year?

My sister got me these Tiny hands.

Turns out my mom is very very freaked out by them so I had a great time.

GiuseppeAndTheYeti, in What do the symbols next to usernames mean on Lemmy?

Took a couple of days to get familiar, but you should switch to Voyager if you want to search the content of posts across lemmy. I used Jerboa for 6 months and finally decided to check out Voyager after a few bugs in Jerboa and comment sorting default not being a thing.

It’s been much better since switching for me. Text formatting needs work but that’s pretty minor in the grand scheme of things to me.

@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

That’s a robot head icon, right? It would be nice to see a list of all the icons and their meaning.

justlookingfordragon,
@justlookingfordragon@lemmy.world avatar

If you hover the mouse pointer above such an icon (don’t click it), it usually displays what it stands for. For example, when you hover aove the [OP] next to your username here, a little indicator saying “creator” will pop up.

    Yeah… I’m a total caveman when it comes to modern technology, lol ^^° that’s probably not an option in an app.

    Bondrewd, in What is a nifty little feature modern gadgets have lost?

    If anything, this thread kind of shows how much people fail to get informed about their smartphone before they buy one.

    Literally every single one of these features is available on the market. Most of those phones are actually the quality stuff, like the German produced Gigaset/Volla, or the Dutch (assembled?) Fairphone. But no, you have to go out of your way to get the bottom of the barrel Iphone and Samsung made in China.

    ulph,

    People gotta have their blue bubbles you know.

    Bondrewd,

    are you calling being informed about smartphones redpill?

    the_post_of_tom_joad,

    Is this the thread to troll? I don’t know if people are that invested in lost features that theyd get baited, but get that gator!

    Bondrewd,

    I cant really do anything to such fragility. Let em break!

    Do you mean the user’s avatar?

    This isn’t the right community for tech support questions, you should try your app’s community or !techsupport instead.

    Nice! Is that a web browser or an app that you’re using? It doesn’t look like that for me on Jerboa.

    YoBuckStopsHere,

    Standard browser view. Apps change the appearance quite a bit.

    No, not the avatar. I added an example of the icon to my post.

    Thanks for the suggestion! Is it possible to cross-post? I don’t see the option here.
