VizualWarrior, in How do you strike a balance between being present in the moment and planning for the future?

How to surf

Joking, but also serious. The more you try the harder it is, but you gotta try right? Paradox.

In the meantime maybe break it up. Plan a day ahead, then maybe a week. Go with that for a bit. Maybe you’ll eventually start planning farther ahead, or maybe you’ll find contentment with a bitesized scope. I don’t think there are any hard and fast rules. But above all, be kind to yourself.

I feel like I’ve already shit enough in my life.

If that page loaded for me, what could I expect to see on it?

TootSweet, in How do you strike a balance between being present in the moment and planning for the future?

Thoughts about the future are experiences had in the present. Be mindful of the present feelings of thinking about the future. Also, practice meditation.

bostonbananarama, in How do you strike a balance between being present in the moment and planning for the future?

Set intermediate and long term goals. Have the absolutely best, most amazing time you can have while not sacrificing those goals.

MrFloppy, in SAD light location and use for programmers?
@MrFloppy@lemmy.world avatar

Wasn’t this a Frequenzy thing? When your Monitor works with 100 Hz your SAD light shouldn’t have 100 Hz, too?

ThatWeirdGuy1001, in How do you strike a balance between being present in the moment and planning for the future?
@ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world avatar

Thanks to my crippling ADHD I never worry about the future and simply exist in a state of constant instinctual action.

It actually works great until bills are due…

Travalanche,
@Travalanche@lemmy.world avatar

Thanks to my crippling ADHD, I’m completely the opposite of that, and still manage to fuck up my budget.

mynamesnotrick,

You summed up something ive failed to articulate clearly ever… Thanks.

Bitrot,
@Bitrot@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

My coping mechanism is hyper-planning. I don’t live in or enjoy the present much, but have never been late on a payment.

Rhynoplaz,

Oh shit. It’s a new month, isn’t it?

jacktherippah, in What are some small things we should change about the human body?

Ability to regrow lost teeth and no more wisdom teeth.

Coskii,
@Coskii@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Ever think that wisdom teeth were supposed to be the replacements from back when our life expectancy was like 30?

Malfeasant,

There’s research that suggests exactly that…

Donebrach,
@Donebrach@lemmy.world avatar

So you both want to do away with replacement teeth and also have replacement teeth. Huh.

jacktherippah, (edited ) in If humans went extinct, what would the Earth look like one year later?

Farm animals would be easy prey for bears, coyotes, wolves and panthers. And pets? The cats would go feral – that is, they would become wild, though many would be preyed upon by larger animals. Most dogs wouldn’t survive, either.

Yeah, I think that tracks. When we domesticated our feline masters they seem to have retained most of their natural predatory instincts, so cats would probably do quite well for a while until the large animals come. Most dogs wouldn’t survive probably, domestication has changed them so much compared to wolves, also we practically mutilated some breeds when we bred them.

Linkerbaan, in Court documents naming Epstein associates are to be made public this week? Who do you think will come out the worst?
@Linkerbaan@lemmy.world avatar

Let’s take a moment to remember that Epstein didn’t kill himself.

Nobody that matters is gonna be on that list

YoorWeb, in What movie or book had the biggest impact on you this year?

Chaos Monkeys: Obscene Fortune and Random Failure in Silicon Valley is an autobiography written by American tech entrepreneur Antonio García Martínez. The book likens Silicon Valley to the “chaos monkeys” of society. In the book, the author details his career experiences with launching a tech startup, selling it to Twitter, and working at Facebook from its pre-IPO stage.

It’s actually 2016 book that I’ve missed. Great story, cool ending. Love the part about graffiti all over Facebook offices.

RFC, pull request to add git.

Reasoning: Having a built-in versioning system would allow humans to rollback roll back undesirable changes and advancements could be made more easily

please comment or downvote if this is a bad idea

corsicanguppy,

Bug ticket: you wanted ‘roll back’, there, two words.

Definetly periods, stupid design and incredibly rare in mamals anyway.

Also, a change of our metabolism, our current way to deal with excess energy is outdated. And maybe make us resistant to cancers, that shit sucks.

Just make it repair as well as the “immortal” animals out there (they can obviously die of accidents or diseases but not of old age).

Vanth, in What are some small things we should change about the human body?
@Vanth@reddthat.com avatar

Our bodies need some trace metals, problem is it can’t differentiate between metals it needs and metals that will kill it. “Hell yeah, delicious zinc” as it noms down on lead instead of pooping it out.
