What do you want for Christmas?
I’m thinking of gifting myself a Nintendo Switch and getting my Sister a Kindle.
I’m thinking of gifting myself a Nintendo Switch and getting my Sister a Kindle.
Vex_Detrause, Less debt
RagingRobot, That’s what I want too but it looks like I’m getting the opposite lol
AceFuzzLord, One of the only things I could think of that isn’t super expensive would be a Dreamcast VMU (or two, only have 1 currently) and a US copy of Chu Chu rocket. Really not much I want that isn’t expensive and I definitely ain’t asking for expensive shit.
RagingRobot, Chu Chu rocket is super fun! Hope you get it
QualifiedKitten, Nothing. I don't want random junk and I don't want to feel obligated to buy random junk for others.
LesMotsBalaises, Same. Homemade baked goods exchange it is for me. Show me your love with chocolate mousse, bro.
GoofSchmoofer, I decided a few years back to give experiences not things.
The way I do that is with a $100-ish gift card to an airline. This way they can use it to go somewhere and make a memory.
electrogamerman, This. I gift things to family and friends throughout the year, not necessarily on special dates, but because I saw something they needed/could need.
Buying crap that most probably will end up in the trash is not my thing.
sock, when i ask for Christmas presents its usually please buy me this item specifically and if you dont want to buy that specific thing please tell me ill just get it myself no harm done.
but i nowadays need to know whats gotten and not gotten so i know what i can get myself versus outsource to better off family members.
rbesfe, Buy the switch if you need that Nintendo game fix, but I would consider a steam deck if not. Much newer hardware and more repairable.
k0mprssd,
- the same nintendo games 🏴☠️
foggy, A flipper zero 🤓
vsh, (edited ) Gotta turn off those TVs at my local McDonald’s to make employees’ life harder. Yes that seems like a good idea!
foggy, (edited ) deleted_by_moderator
vsh, (edited ) security research
Oh lol, what a fancy word to cover up your inner technological retardness
foggy, You’ve joined my block list.
Cheers.
Pyroglyph, I’m lucky enough to earn a comfortable wage so I tend to buy things that I want throughout the year.
Many people in my position seem to only want things that unfortunately cannot be gifted. More hours in the day. Less suffering in the world. More time with loved ones. Less global disarray.
:(
abecede, “more time with loved ones” is not a wish. It is a choice.
Pyroglyph, The implication was that it was to spend more time with loved ones after it’s already too late.
Mog_fanatic, (edited ) My dead friends and family would beg to differ with that 😅
abecede, Then it probably was a choice you didn’t make then…
Mog_fanatic, Lol wtf is this comment?? A person died and I wish I could spend time with them and your response is “well you probably chose not to spend time with them when they were alive.”
That’s a totally reasonable and measured response…
abecede, You are right, please accept my apology. That was a dumb thing to write.
Mog_fanatic, i gotta say, this is seemingly a rare thing these days. That’s not always easy and I appreciate you. Absolutely accept your apology and i hope you have a fantastic day!
Gallardo994, Socks, actually. And maybe an extra shaving gel cause this one is about to run out.
Mog_fanatic, I see this answer a shocking amount and I don’t get it. Do y’all not just… buy socks? You can buy like 8 pair for $10 and they last a long while…
Unless maybe everyone is talking about like super fancy socks or something?
Gallardo994, Yeah, I don’t usually visit shops specifically for that. In fact even if I do visit a store that has those items, I usually forget that’s even a thing I have to worry about. Dunno, it’s just never on my list for some reason.
Mog_fanatic, Fair enough and totally understandable. You gotsta treat yourself to some socks friend!
If not, here’s hoping Santa helps you out 🎅
remus989, A quiet brain
vsh, So… Death?
RecallMadness, I just want to go ride my motorcycle, and not have to fit shit around everyone else’s shit and the mountain of jobs that need doing around the house (ie, never)
RBWells, I am a working mom and will tell you - if you don’t schedule time for yourself you won’t get it. I prioritize sex and exercise into the schedule because if not, life and work will eat every moment. For 2024, schedule in 3 hours every weekend, or an evening or morning but every single week.
Realize that everyone is accommodating everyone else, they aren’t doing it to annoy you. You aren’t the center of the universe. But that doesn’t mean you don’t need time to recharge, plan it weekly in 2024 and let the schedule fit around you too. It will.
TeaHands, Just a nice easy Christmas and New Year, at home just me and my partner, no responsibilities, no social obligations, cozy pyjamas, playing games and relaxing together and generally living actual real life for a couple weeks instead of the constant treadmill.
FollyDolly, Came here to pretty much say this. I don’t want stuff, I want to drink hot cocoa and put together puzzles in our PJs.
TeaHands, Apparently our modest Christmas dreams are downvote-worthy to someone. But it sounds pretty perfect to me! :D
FollyDolly, Haters gonna hate
Moghul, Peace of mind, and relaxation. I don’t want stuff.
TehBamski, What would bring you peace of mind?
Moghul, (edited ) I think I’ve written 3-4 different comments over the last 15 minutes here, and I don’t know what the right thing to answer is, but I loathe to leave you hanging. To put things shortly, and not get too rambly, what little future I can see is shaky, and I hate the song & dance of the holidays. I need some time for R&R, and a change of pace from my daily life.
Thanks for asking.
kratoz29, Stuff.
Pea666, (edited ) Socks and booze. But mostly socks.
Pyroglyph, I always thought the socks at Christmas thing was a meme, but here we both are in need of nicer socks.
shish_mish, Being able to put the heating on for the days of Christmas would be nice. It is very cold.
ivanafterall, I'm sorry you're going through that. I was there just a couple of months back and found some really good deals on heaters at my local thrift store. I found a plug-in radiator for $7.99 and a couple of small space heaters for about $5 each, which really made a difference.
Catoblepas, Reusable hand warmers might be practical for you. They stay warm for hours through a chemical reaction, and you reset it by boiling it.
Not the same as a whole body warm, but better than nothing. Sorry you’re having to deal with the cold.
SomeoneElseMod, I feel you. This is the second winter we’ve only been able to heat one room to at least 18C, and that’s not warm enough for my disabled ass. My electric throw blanket is on 24/7 though and is incredibly efficient - it costs less than 25p a day. I would highly recommend one if you can manage the upfront cost. Also wrist warmers are highly underrated imo - cheap, you can knit/crochet them yourself, your fingers are still free for touch screens and they seem to keep me warmer than just a hat alone. Wishing you more comfortable times ahead, friend.
Frog-Brawler, (edited ) To move out of state (FL).
ivanafterall, Where are you headed?
TehBamski, Anywhere, but there, I would imagine. ha
Frog-Brawler, Not sure yet. I just visited WA. I loved Seattle but it seems like everywhere that’s not Seattle is somewhat neglected. I5 is a piece of shit.
WA was at the top of my list but it is not anymore. I guess I’ll go check out Colorado in a couple of months.
PonyOfWar, I’ve kind of stopped caring about the gift-receiving aspect of christmas in recent years. So I mainly look forward to the family Raclette dinner on christmas eve and meeting some old friends who come home for christmas.
HubertManne, I actually hate the whole gift cycle. I have to often seen it become like a competition.
