We all know someone like that. I live next door to a Major relative, but I’m making peace with her. It’s hard work. Happy New Year’s eve. I can’t wait for Steve Dallas to show up.
Right, I got that from the band name; I just didn’t know if this was a, like, real band, or a band that someone started to parody a band from the comic, or a band that someone formed to pay homage to the comic, etc.
Never a better time now that the community owner is posting them in real time. I’ve got all the books but I’m still planning on following along in syndication pacing.
One of my favorite words is Diagetic. The music is part of the universe you’re observing.
I think this isn’t quite the same as that, since it’s music that is coming out of the universe, and intended to be representative of something inside, but it’s at least related.
Like the musical notation at the end of a Charles de Lint novel. Emergent diagesis.
It’s a rock band of rebels with a death tuba section, from Bloom County. In the universe of the comic, they go on tour and Bill destroys a motel room. They do their best to imitate the greats. They are the vanguard of culture. Thanx for the groovy gams!
I’m so excited! Thank you for doing this! I had to buy the 2009 complete collection on paper to get high quality versions. Did you digitize all those years of strips?
Very welcome :) This will be a nice trip down memory lane! Pretty amazing how relevant it still is today.
I have the complete collection as well. I did not digitize them, as they are freely available on GoComics.com. I have noticed that GoComics sometimes is missing some days here and there, in those cases I will digitize.
I always found it funny that Breathed chose the band "Billy and the Beaters" to parody with Bill the Cat's band. Billy and the Beaters was a one-hit wonder with a song that was featured on Family Ties.
It’s funny how this isn’t even an odd request anymore. Most places will make burgers into lettuce wraps now. I wonder which factors (keto, gluten-free, broader health awareness) or combination of them had the most influence on changing perception about it?
As someone who doesn’t remember those days, why was it so ridiculous to get a burger without a bun? Even without lettuce wraps, it seems like it would’ve been simple enough to throw/stack in the wrapper/box. Messy, but simple. These days, it’s commonly eaten with a fork.
This is based on a marketing campaign back in the day from Burger King called Have It Your Way. At the time having things customized in the food industry, especially fast food was not common and food allergies/intolerance were not really acknowledged. If you didn’t like pickles or tomatoes, you picked them off instead of being made without for you. So when BK started this it was pretty revolutionary.
I read the comics everyday as a kid, my parents got the paper. I never understood Bloom County, I’m looking forward to seeing if it’s better now that I’m old.
I grew up in a small town that had a very small newspaper which had no comics. So I only saw Bloom County on Fridays (we got the paper from the big city on Friday for the week’s tv schedule) and my grandmother saved the Sunday comics for me. But as soon as the books were released I bought all of those. Over the years I have reread them many times, but never in order.
