Blueneonz, (edited ) in (solved) I can't get my linux system to run properly

If it’s only on YouTube then it could be a non-chrome browser issue and/or youtube being messed up from the anti ad-blocker stuff. YouTube has been very glitchy over the past month and even so for the past couple of weeks.

Leugi,

No, it was the secure boot setting. Almost everything worked well enough with it off. However, not well enough for me not to go back to windows. Oh well, maybe in another 10 years.

chitak166, in What are you most excited when it comes to linux in 2024?

Just using it like I’ve always been with as little change as possible.

markstos, in Is it possible to flash a new OS onto an old iPad 2?

Good news. You can install a newer browser in a virtual machine on some other server you have and then use some Remote Desktop software on the iPad to access the VM which can run a browser to access your Home Assistant dashboard.

penquin, (edited ) in Shortcomings and regressions in Plasma 6 wayland for artists using and configuring graphic tablets

Is this only Fedora or is it Linux in general ditching Wayland on plasma? Also, will people be able to reinstall xorg and will it work fine? Wayland is not usable for me and I use plasma. This would be a big blow for me if I can’t use xorg. I use emdeavourOS. Are we good there?

raghukamath,

For now it is just fedora ditching xorg, you are safe on Arch based and debian based distros.

penquin,

Phew, thank you. I was getting stressed out for a bit there. lol

Flaky, (edited ) in Windows 11 scores dead last in gaming performance tests against 3 Linux gaming distros
@Flaky@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

For whatever reason, Windows 11 is worse at Cyberpunk 2077 than Arch for me. Constant stuttering. It might be that Arch has much less going on than Windows, but it’s enough for me to use Linux as my main gaming OS now.

Mandy, in What are you most excited when it comes to linux in 2024?

The advantage of V Shell is that you switch workspaces vertically as well instead of scrolling sideways. It overrides the native GNOME scrolling.

Amount of options are overwhelming. It is extending GNOME with a lot of functions

There is a little flashing when scrolling through workspaces you’re right. All else it works alright I guess.

merthyr1831, in Integrity and config errors Ubuntu

It’s a thing with certain laptops, where their secure boot certs are outdated or something. Not really anything you can do to fix, but it doesnt mean anything in practice - I never had issues with it after running linux across multiple distros about a year on my Acer nitro 5.

only thing you might have issues with is using secure boot in certain distros but if you don’t have problems then no need to worry

    Another_username,

Thanks for your reply! That goes for both the errors?

    merthyr1831,

the gpio one could also just be the BIOS being whacky. I think I have the same one show up on my Acer laptop and I’ve never had an issue.

    Another_username,

The gpio one was fixed with the last update :)

hottari, in What are you most excited when it comes to linux in 2024?

Nothing much really. MGLRU was finally added this year to fix long-standing kernel OOM issues. Maybe some TPM stuff in systemd from Lennart. Maybe the pace of immutables will increase but who knows. Despite the occasional regressions am pretty happy with Linux.

I also run Arch and have this same problem. I dug in for a bit, but found nothing. :( Webcam works perfectly well in all other circumstances except Zoom.

does anyone know if there is any work on like a portal/wayland extension or something to enable the ability for applications to get permission to create an always on top window on wayland.
