Kyoyeou,

Also in the US: Blue SmS right?

Kecessa,

Teenagers are the only ones who care about that

Rai,

I think a lot of tech-savvy adults care about E2E on blue iMessage bubbles. I won’t talk about sensitive information via green, that’s all going to signal.

franklin,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

Isn’t end to end an encryption broken if any of the clients use the feature to send from Mac OS

Rai,

DAE Apple bad?!?!?!!!1

franklin, (edited )
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

This just comes off as defensive and needy. I’m not even sure if encryption is affected by syncing with icloud, I was just raising a concern if that was a real reason for using it

Kecessa,

Imma burst your bubble (pun intended) but that’s such a small part of the population and even such a small part of the tech savvy population that I don’t think it’s much of an argument.

Rai,

That’s fair! I’m just going by my own experiences. But I have a lot of tech-savvy friends and acquaintances and even many non-tech-savvy mates are into Signal vs SMS because it’s secure, has great audio/video chat, and it’s not owned by shudders Facebook. I personally do not touch any google or Facebook products or services.

Ziglin,

Apple gives it funny colours? Google messages just change saturation. Also for some reason I can’t send RCS (and e2e encrypted) messages to my relatives with apple phones. But I got most of them to use Signal :>

Lolors17,

I just recently read something about, that apple needs to use RCS by the end of 2023.

Ziglin,

I actually heard the same on techlinked today, but apparently apple doesn’t seem to be interested in e2e encryption for their RCS messages.

Matombo, in I am THIS close to joining the Chromium monopoly gang

I just use systemctl because I know how to use it and know all the ins and outs of any bullshit I might encounter. No way I’m switching. I like not being stumped on issues I can’t fix for weeks.

jeena, in It's been compiling for two days straight...
@jeena@jemmy.jeena.net avatar

Back in the day, around 2005 or 2006 I did that and I had browse the internet in a text based browser for 2 days because KDE on that old machine took two days to compile.

carl_the_llama, (edited )

I’m so glad that I’m reliving those experiences because I want and not because I need to.

JetpackJackson,

How did it go? I’m trying to make my website more accessible by running it through w3m, so I wonder how the sites back then did.

jeena,
@jeena@jemmy.jeena.net avatar

It depends on the site, back then there were a lot of table-layouts which were quite fucked up in the text-only browser. Nowadays there are non of them which is good, but nowadays there are JavaScript only websites which don’t really work well. You can install a text only browser and try it out yourself.

JetpackJackson,

I’m already playing around with w3m but I had no idea about that table thing, sounds rough. Thanks for the links (pun unintended)

  • greenmarty,

    Isn’t Mint kinda better Ubuntu these days? Could be worth the check if you are into Ubuntu.

    bitwolf,

    Does Mint carry on the snap stuff? Usually I recommend POP!_OS for new users.

    greenmarty, (edited )

    Nope, I can run it on old potato with 3GB of RAM and i doubt i could run Ubuntu’s full snaps flotila . They also remove the telemetry of Ubuntu. But AFAIK you can turn on snaps. The way i understand it Mint has these main goals : get rid of questionable Ubuntu things, keep it super stable, be welcoming to newcommers (like my none tech parents who never seen Linux could just use Mint outbox the box)

    baggins, (edited ) in So, timeshift or NixOS?
