What kernel parameters should I use?

0x4E4F,
@0x4E4F@sh.itjust.works avatar

The parameters that suite your needs.

laurelraven,

All of them, just to be sure

Petter1,

Why do some specific Nvidia grafic cards require that you use legacy BIOS to start up your linux, while it works flawlessly on macOS using EFI??

0x4E4F,
@0x4E4F@sh.itjust.works avatar

Because Apple has money and revenue, and Linux doesn’t.

Petter1,

😮 I did not expect such accurate answers, lol

victorz,

Which cards?

stoicmaverick,

It’s easiest if I just link you to the Wikipedia article on money. Here

poinck,

What is flatpak?

possiblylinux127,

A packaging format for linux

0x4E4F,
@0x4E4F@sh.itjust.works avatar

You sure you don’t know anything about Linux 🤨?

0x4E4F,
@0x4E4F@sh.itjust.works avatar

A really flat pancake.

Sheeple,
@Sheeple@lemmy.world avatar

A flapjack is a comic character

stoicmaverick,

It’s a type of Kool-Aid that everybody’s been drinking recently

My appoligies, this answer is more correct than mine.

What are the advantages of pacman?

possiblylinux127,

None

SoggyBread,

He eats all the pellets i dropped on the ground and can get rid of ghosts

makunamatata,

Also makes cute sounds and blinks on special occasions

0x4E4F, (edited )
@0x4E4F@sh.itjust.works avatar

Well, you have only 4 controls for him, up, down, left, right, whereas, let’s say Mario, also has fire and jump, so that’s 2 controls more, which makes pacman simpler, thus faster.

thecrotch,

It’s free and open source, unlike Microsoft’s proprietary Ms. Pacman

GarlicToast,

What’s the effect of having rust in the kernel?

Nuage,

The code is less readable

0x4E4F, (edited )
@0x4E4F@sh.itjust.works avatar

You have to disassemble it, clean the rust, assemble it back and put some extra oil in it so it doesn’t get rusty again.

pewgar_seemsimandroid,

Cicraft,

vynlwombat,

Is this anime chat? How to patch KDE2 under FreeBSD?

0x4E4F,
@0x4E4F@sh.itjust.works avatar

You put some duct tape to patch it, duh.

AwkwardTurtle,

How many boot loaders do I need to boot the loader?

GladiusB,
@GladiusB@lemmy.world avatar

42

0x4E4F, (edited )
@0x4E4F@sh.itjust.works avatar

To boot the load, you only need one bootloader, and that is your prostate. Have no idea how women boot the load.

CaptPretentious,

What are the important, distinguishing differences between RHEL8 and REHL9 one should probably know.

laurelraven,

One is divisible by 3 and not 2, and the other is divisible by 2 and not 3

This is very important when checking if your software packages are compatible

0x4E4F,
@0x4E4F@sh.itjust.works avatar

Correct!

loudWaterEnjoyer,
@loudWaterEnjoyer@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Explain this

laurelraven,

That is a high compatibility version for when you need to work with many different softwares at once

loudWaterEnjoyer,
@loudWaterEnjoyer@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

But it’s 4.5, which is like (9 ÷ 2) so that kinda contradicts your first statement, doesn’t it?

laurelraven,

Not at all! Since it’s half of 9, it can therefore work with half of the software RHEL 9 is compatible with, but since the 4 is also divisible by 2, it can handle all of that software as well.

It’s really quite simple, I don’t see how this could be confusing at all…

Snapz,

How many orbs do you need to use to make it show the yellow screen?

0x4E4F,
@0x4E4F@sh.itjust.works avatar

5 to 10, depends on the shade of yellow you’d like to get.

Octopus1348,
@Octopus1348@lemy.lol avatar

What does sudo rm -rf / --no-preserve-root do? I found it on some sketchy article.

0x4E4F,
@0x4E4F@sh.itjust.works avatar

It removes the root from the apple tree in Eden and saves Eve from making the first sin, humanity being banished from heaven and all that.

Nerrad,
@Nerrad@lemmy.world avatar

Why do so many nerds say my sister Vi is their favorite?

bhamlin,

Because she’s cuter than your other sister, Emacs.

0x4E4F,
@0x4E4F@sh.itjust.works avatar

Because the V version was a complete disaster… please don’t remind me of that.

21Cabbage,

Why did I have to burn multiple install CDs before finally getting one to work back in 2013?

Gimpydude,

For the same reason I had to buy a stack of floppies to install it in the 90’s

stoicmaverick,

I think you have a little bit of solder flux stuck in your gray beard on the left side… No, other left.

21Cabbage,

Weren’t floppy’s relatively rewritable? Why did you have to buy multiple instead of simply trying multiple times?

Gimpydude,

Floppies were very rewritable, but the distro wouldn’t fit on a single one.

21Cabbage,

See but I’m talking about burning an install CD for Puppy and having it just straight not work and the solution being “just burn another one” like CDs were cheap for a 13 year old.

0x4E4F,
@0x4E4F@sh.itjust.works avatar

Good thing floppes were dirt cheap back then.

0x4E4F,
@0x4E4F@sh.itjust.works avatar

Because not all distros work with their respective boot floppies. I gather you finally realized that in 2013.

sunoc,
@sunoc@sh.itjust.works avatar

What should I do to use shared-memory communication from user-space on an immutable system?

possiblylinux127,

It should be fine

0x4E4F, (edited )
@0x4E4F@sh.itjust.works avatar

You should try and download some RAM from the user-space. Regarding the system, you should really switch to a muted one, I was extatic when my system stopped bitching all the time.

stoicmaverick,

There’s an EMACS plug-in for this
