dojan, in [REPOST] Truck driving on Salary
@dojan@lemmy.world avatar

Love hearing about companies getting screwed over when they try to screw their workers. Delicious!

My roomie is a truck driver. As far as I understand he is salaried, but it’s a fair wage. He also gets compensation for work outside of his normal hours, and bonus pay for “uncomfortable working hours.”

So the first eight hours, provided it’s not a night shift or a holiday, he gets normal pay. Any hour after those first eight hours he gets overtime pay, I believe standard there is double the amount. Holiday/uncomfortable pay I think is also doubled.

Because of the nature of the work he racks up overtime almost daily and takes home a decent sized paycheck each month.

LizardKing, in [REPOST] Check my employees clockings at work? No problem. No problem at all.

This is delicious

At least he was a good sport about it

Marmie, in [REPOST] You want me to only do what you've assigned me and not help anyone else? Okay then.
@Marmie@lemmy.world avatar

That's pretty awesome of him to actually admit he was in the wrong and apologize instead of doubling down.

i read the original. Good repost

sin_free_for_00_days, in [REPOST] Boss did not like the look of the "bulk Mailing" stamp, told me to remove it. Cost the company over $220K.

When I was a kid (late teens) I read a Henry Miller book that had a line something like,“Do exactly what they tell you to do, and let them live to regret it.” Just made me appreciate malicious compliance for most of my working life.

That sounds like a much more mature human than just about all the bosses I've worked under.

it's the peter principle. Promote someone to the level of their incompetence.

ChosenUndead15, in [REPOST] Malicious software code review

Did 800mb broke his mind or did the pretty print did something weird or just the fact it formatted 800mb in the eay 2000s? Because I am trying to figure out why that was the only question.

Edit: just realized is a repost by someone else. Now I am left with the question.

dystop,
@dystop@lemmy.world avatar

You'll never find out!

abff08f4813c,

I figure it was two things. First, the pretty printer did something so he knew it was all pretty printed. He asked that to show he really did go over every line (even if not true he probably made the effort hence the month delay).

Second he probably thought, dang these guys wrote 800 mb of code in six months. They’re good 。

c2h6, in [REPOST] Check my employees clockings at work? No problem. No problem at all.

Gotta love power tripping managers, without them maliciouscompliance wouldn’t be what it is

c2h6, in [REPOST] You can't badge back in if you haven't badged out?

Stupid corporate policies and power tripping managers... Where would we get such quality content without them??

Goldenderp, in That time the boys team had our back against sexist uniforms

That's awesome, reminds me of the bus drivers wearing skirts!

dystop,
@dystop@lemmy.world avatar

oh yeah weren't there schools where the boys wore skirts as a form of protest as well?

darcy,
eee,

nothing more fun than bending the rules yet adhering strictly to it.

dystop,
@dystop@lemmy.world avatar

you could say they were... what's the term? maliciously complying?

eee,

if only there were a sub for that!

dystop,
@dystop@lemmy.world avatar

hehehe

sin_free_for_00_days, in That time the boys team had our back against sexist uniforms

That is a pretty awesome response. Fucked up it had to get to that point, but love the athlete solidarity.

synodic, in [REPOST] Boss did not like the look of the "bulk Mailing" stamp, told me to remove it. Cost the company over $220K.

I love malicious compliance stories, but they're so much better when OP does everything in their power to help the situation and in the end they have to maliciously comply. This feels like a situation where OP was the expert and rather than correct Ron, just told him to sign. I'd make mistakes all the time at my job if I had to know every minor detail about the jobs underneath me. I acknowledge Ron probably micromanaged, but this feels less satisfactory to me because OP SHOULD have told Ron the consequences and instead opted to try to screw him over anyway.

thanks for contributing!

and oh man high school gymnastics/athletics is almost as prone to such scandals as priests and altar boys. I'm glad the teams stood together!

Abridgedlife,

In hindsight it’s crazy how many adults had to fail us to get there but I’m glad the boys team helped us call bullshit

darcy,

Oh darling I have stories about male teachers not understanding how periods work that will make you cringe!
