Lemmy chads actually doing something(self hosting) while reddit mods wank for the 15th time to childs in a day while banning a few people.

Omega_Haxors,

Don’t forget banning people for talking back against fascists and using nazi as a pejorative.

Appoxo,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Never happened to me.
Maybe that’s a problem because you dual boot?

If so: Not a supported use case by windows/ms and they will probably tell you to stop it and then it will work without issues.

If that is actually the case:
You can’t just do stuff the company (as bullshit as it is) tells you not to, break the software and then call the company shit for doing something out of scope.

beefcat,

Dual-booting literally is a supported use case

Sabata11792,
@Sabata11792@kbin.social avatar

I had to do a firmware update for my new CPU. The firmware is shit. Last version I had the option of virtualization or networking, never both but the BIOS didn't wipe.

erev,

You can’t just do stuff the company (as bullshit as it is) tells you not to, break the software and then call the company shit for doing something out of scope.

The company’s software can’t just do stuff I (as bullshit as it is) don’t want it to, break my system and/or overwrite data on partitions and drives I did not give it explicit or implicit permission to read, access, or modify, and then tell me my use case is unsupported and so I just have to deal with it.

I’m not OP and I don’t even dual boot, but it’s my computer, not Microsoft’s. If I want to dual boot, and Windows breaks that despite me not making any changes to Windows, then yes the company deserves to have shit placed at their feet. Linux doesn’t overwrite any Windows data when it updates unless you tell it to, so why have tons of people (including multiple friends) had Windows overwrite their Linux data on updates?

bleistift2,

For me it works sometimes, sometimes it doesn’t.

mincing me into fertilizer instead of making me sell their crap at 5k% markup gets them more money how?

Honytawk,

Because if you were spreading dangerous ideas like Unions and livable pay, they would stand to lose a lot more than whatever profit you were generating.

Hegar, (edited )

People think capitalists care about nothing except their net value but that's an unfair stereotype.

What's the use of having all the money if you can't make other people suffer? How else will the poors know you're better than them?

Kiosfriend,
@Kiosfriend@lemmy.world avatar

but that’s literally what I was doing…do they just mince everyone, have all the product, and never sell any? how does that get them any money?

LemmysMum,

They make you make the product for less than it’s worth, then they sell you the product for more than it’s worth, and pocket the difference.

They mince you when your buying power disappears.

I bet it’s because it was recently announced that the Mario Maker 1 servers would be shutting down. There’s a group called Team 0% that is trying to finish every unfinished level in Mario Maker. There’s a push in the community to get everyone to help. I wouldn’t be surprised if this person bought a Wii U to help.

Here’s a YouTube video about it (2 mins 54 secs)

Wow, this one touched some nerves.

Custoslibera,

I’d recommend posting a tangentially political meme at some point on Lemmy.

The amount of people who will come out of the woodwork to tell you ‘don’t post this’ and ‘don’t make things political’ will really be eye opening.

People don’t want to address systemic issues and think not talking about them is a viable solution.

    so you’re saying you do a lot of projecting

    Eldritch,

    This from the guy on a Leninist instance. Peak irony.

    ThePenitentOne,

    'You are younger than me and therefore know nothing.' Can't argue with that there.

    Eldritch,

    Ah the old deflect to a straw man argument. I never insinuated your age.

    snekerpimp,

    How is a meme a lecture?

    masterflappie,

    It’s not, this just isn’t a meme

    Facebones,

    Where are all of you “NoT a MeMe” types when lazy fascist shit gets posted? 🤔

    snekerpimp,
    snekerpimp,

    Just making comments about rich people and their taxes seems to do the same thing here.

    Facebones,

    Don’t even have to go THAT far, I get called a commie for saying a 40 hour work week should provide basic shelter these days. 🤷

    If we want to live in boring reality, it doesn’t happen a LOT but way more than it should.

    Pixelle3D,

    How dare you suggest such a thing!

    Facebones,

    Being able to afford rent takes yachts away from starving billionaires!

    SuckMyWang,

    Those yachts provide jobs for the yacht builders and yacht operators of the world. Society needs these things far more than other things like basic human rights and dignity

    OurToothbrush,

    I mean that was and is a basic communist agitating point, you might be closer to a communist than you think.

    Facebones,

    I don’t know if this is supposed to be snarky or not but I’ve accepted a while ago that I’m definitely some version of “leftist.”

    I don’t see myself that way necessarily but capitalists are drawing their line in the sand so far to the right that it is what it is lmao

    OurToothbrush, (edited )

    It was meant to be snarky as in laughing with you not at you.

    Facebones,

    Gotcha. I’ve always seen myself as a centrist, not particularly anti capitalist, just into safety nets and less car centric infrastructure.

    Nowadays I get called a commie for talking about public transit, I’m a commie for the work comment, list goes on. I don’t buy into your red scare bs guys, if that stuff makes me a commie then I’m a commie les fuckin gooooooo

    OurToothbrush,

    Ah, yeah, I used to be a social democrat too, but I did a lot of reading and I came to the conclusion that social democracy isn’t really politically sustainable without the threat of communism, and it really isn’t economically stable in the same way capitalism isn’t as laid out in Capital (which is a good read btw, very dense but worth reading for the economic analysis)

    Yeah anything gets you labeled a commie nowadays, McCarthyism is alive and well.

    IzzyData, in Business is going well
    @IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

    Having an invite only service seems like a risky move. If you make the sign up process too difficult people will give up and never return.

    pixelscript,

    At this stage that’s kind of the point. It’s an intentional demand-curbing measure. The number of people trying to switch to BlueSky outstrips hosting infrastructure. They’re scaling up slowly and carefully.

    I presume once it’s out of open beta and they have the infra they need to launch properly, it will stop being invite ony.

    IzzyData,
    @IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

    Understandable, but at that point it may be too late as people will have cemented themselves with some of the competition such as Mastodon or wherever it may be. At least for me I am very unlikely to use BlueSky at this point or in the future because I was unable to go to the site when I had heard of it and sign up.

    pixelscript,

    I think those of us that treat social media services this way are a minority in the grand picture. If BlueSky continues to be effective, network effect will pull in a steady stream of users, including ones that may have balked before.

    It is poising itself to be a 1:1 drop-in replacement for Twitter. Federated services like Mastodon aren’t that (and aren’t trying to be).

    I wholly believe that the majority of Twitter users have no interest in federated platforms as alternatives. By comparison, platforms like Mastodon feel vaguely like Twitter but more fractured and isolated. Everyone was on Twitter. Comparatively no one is on Mastodon. Discovery is awful and micromanaging instances and subscriptions is tedious busywork. “Why can’t it just be all in one convenient place, like on Twitter? This is so stupid and complicated,” I expect most would complain.

    Federated platforms are loved by us because we value the fine control and we like putting in effort to curate our feeds. The complexity is the appeal. But I think it’s negative appeal to the type of person who has gotten accustomed to an algorithm doing all of that for them, and I think that’s most people. You can use federated platforms out of the box and they’ll “just work” without all the tinkering, but it will be very bland and vapid. It only becomes great when you put in work to make it great for yourself.

    The thing BlueSky seems to be promising is that big, monolithic platform that Twitter was and most people want. And I think they’re the only notable player in that game, so they’ll completely corner that market. As long as they don’t trip over any footguns (and I don’t believe making the beta invite-only is one of them), I believe they’re going to succeed greatly.

    Holzkohlen,

    But the sign up codes are the only reason people care about it. Yes, people are just THAT shallow.

    Gamey,

    Centralized serives tend to have server issues once they get more popular so it’s not really a surprise the new Twitter shithole did so too!

    dangblingus,

    Facebook started as an invite only service.

    IzzyData,
    @IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

    So did Gmail, but it was a different time without any good competition.

    KeenFlame, in EVs

    That argument will be thrown at every god damn step we make towards a better planet. It’s not valid.

    drkt,

    Electric cars will not save the planet. Electric cars will save the car industry.

    JohnDClay,

    But they’re a whole lot better for the planet than gas cars. And cars won’t go away till we make alternatives. Which we should do as quickly as possible, but will still take a while.

    drkt,

    It’s not good enough. Cars are a bigger problem than their immediately obvious issues like pollution.

    bennieandthez,
    @bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml avatar

    Cars are simply not a good method of individual transportation, regardless of what energy they consume. Theyre just too big.

    Karyoplasma,

    The problem is that the real way to cut down on emissions would be to accept that not every good can be available at any time and that’s a bitter pill to swallow.

    We have tuna caught in South America, hauled to Thailand for canning and hauled back to the US to be sold. Turns more profit than local catches because the megacorporations can save a couple bucks on worker salaries. And that is just an example, it’s not just the food industry, hauling shit to hell and back and back to hell and back is common practice.

    Fogle,

    Doesn’t even have to be unavailable at times. They could can it in north America if they wanted to. Outsourcing jobs (read: exploiting foreign countries and their workers) should be heavily taxed if not banned in most industries

    arlaerion,

    You mean exploiting, right? :)
