2 Hidden valley ranch packets, 1 tbsp onion powder, 1 tbsp garlic powder, 1 tbsp salt, and 1 tbsp paprika if you want to try to make it yourself. It tastes exactly the same to me.
You can paint the tortilla chips with canola oil and sprinkle the seasoning on. Or just drink the seasoning with a straw if you want to.
often capitalized : a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition
Replace the word race with party and you’ve got an incomplete yes, but not necessarily inaccurate description of Stalins USSR.
Seriously not trying to just be a troll or shill here, so if you feel I’m wrong please let me know how and why. I am legitimately, in good faith, curious about the perspectives of some communist here. It is an ideology I am somewhat interested in.
Personally I like the definition that the historian Robert O. Paxton uses. Now, he’s a liberal, but he does have good insight into fascism and he doesn’t fall into that trap of deciding that communists and fascists must be the same thing. His definition isn’t materialist, but it’s a good start.
To paraphrase, his definition is “a suppression of the left among popular sentiment.” By left he means things like socialists, labor organizations, communists, etc. Fascism is a situation where a country has found its theater of democracy has failed and the capitalists need anything at all to keep themselves in power, even if it means cannibalizing another sector of capitalists. The fascists are the ideological contingent of this, who put forward a policy of class collaboration between working class and capitalist, instead of what socialists propose, which is working class dominance in the economy. Fascists exalt nationality or race because that extends through class sentiments. It brushes aside concerns like internal economic contradictions. I once had a comrade say something like “Fascism is capitalists hitting the emergency button until their hand starts bleeding.”
Communists using a vanguard party is to defend their own interests against capitalists or outside invaders. The praise of the CPSU in Stalin’s era was precisely because it acted as a development and protection tool for the working class. It did its job and people were wary of any return to the previous Tsarist or liberal governments. Women began going to school, women were given the vote for the first time. Pogroms ceased. In less than one lifetime of the CPSU administrating the country, people went from poor farmers to living in apartments with plumbing, heating, and clean medical care. That’s why there was such praise of the party, because they actually did things people liked, and they didn’t want anything to threaten them.
Also, what does it matter if there’s one party or two? The working class have a singular, uniting interest to overthrow capitalism. Why are multiple parties needed? Anything the working class needs to negotiate for can be handled within a socialist, democratic structure, not two or three competing structures against one another. Take a look at Cuba, which has one party, but doesn’t use their party to endorse candidates. Everyone’s officially an independent in the National Assembly.
He was a professor at Harvard most of his career, if that explains anything. He’s also on record calling the January 6th capitol thing a fascist coup attempt.
I do think it was an attempt. They just didn’t even know that a coup attempt involved more than walking in the door and demanding Trump be president. The next one in America will involve mass killing, and it will be from a similar demographic.
Yeah we’re still in a position where American fascism doesn’t even recognize itself in the mirror. It doesn’t realize it’s a movement that needs coherent aims. It’s still stuck in the American paradigm of politics as consumerism. A comrade the other day here said the explicit kind of American fascism is having a hard time getting off the ground because they refuse to adopt socialist rhetoric, like European fascist movements in the past.
Yea that’s well said, also American fascists luckily have no history to look back to that’s before the US state formation. So instead of wanting a new system, they just want their guy to play President as they sit on the couch.
This was an enlightening comment and I appreciate it. I may not agree with all of it but it definitely shows there are some perspectives I haven’t considered. A parliamentary or council type system could definitely provide enough representation of different working class communities within a single party. I wonder if they had term limits, or if their representatives would fall into the same hole as the US Congress.
The common socialist position is that term limits are anti-democratic not just because they keep people from voting for who they want to but, more significantly, it tilts the scales in favor of structures that do not have term limits. In the US, for example, elections are essentially completely controlled by private companies from the media to the National Conventions, and term limits check the power of popular candidates (and therefore popular sentiment) versus capital, which does not expire in 8 years.
I stumbled across this with perfect timing. A buddy of mine had just texted me that this week was rough and was a “test week”. Just sent it to him, which might not help his situation, but certainly made me feel better.
I like to think of it as unlocking new thought technologies. Like a tech tree in a 4x game. Sometimes you have mental breakthroughs that legitimately open up new options. I recommend getting really stoned and talking to yourself in a mirror. Also, Disco Elysium.
Listen fam I know we need to condemn the war crimes and violence of both sides. But a message we can rally behind was taught to me by The Kavernacle.
Hamas is, like the IRA, an extreme and desperate response to dehumanizing conditions laid out by Israel. Israel has put these people into worse than third world conditions. They use Hamas as a wedge to treat all Gazans worse. Israel has the power in this situation.
I prefer Xmas to just be year round, without the concentrated music.
Just dilute it. I don’t care when it’s in stores. I care that it’s beat into your head for a couple months and then poofs, only to come again next year.
Also, stop making egg nog only around Xmas! I want it year round as well!
Linux is very reliable when used continuously in a static environment (eg. a server). I mean, 3300 days is like what, 9 years? (!!)
But as a desktop… let’s just say yesterday my friend brought their PC to my house and spent an hour and a half debugging a graphics card issue (yes, it was Nvidia) before we could play Distance (great game btw, highly recommend).

Oh please, you say this as though no one has ever spent literal days debugging Windows quirks and issues. Windows updates especially have nuked many systems.
I haven’t had windows refuse to turn on after a update yet, but linux broke after a update. Probably wouldn’t have happened with a different distro, but can happen in both camps.
I’m sure if you’re doing advanced things in Windows then you can mess it up fairly badly, but in my personal experience, it’s never happened to me except in the laptop I had that literally fell apart.

I’ve helped so many people fix their Windows systems who barely know how to open their email. Computers are complex. No system is perfect (Windows less so IMO).
How did you get that? I literally complained that people who work have to pay for the rich. I shouldn’t be paying for anyone as long as the rich hoard their wealth. I’m happy to pay to build a better society I actually want to contribute but not while people with many orders of magnitude more wealth than me are hoarding and grifting. They pay a lower effective tax rate, money that could easily fund these programs. That being said I don’t think I interpreted the meme well, those people look like well off boomers so I wasn’t getting the poor elderly in a home who doesn’t have enough to buy bread vibes. Anyway until the wealthy stop acting like cancers on society I’m not going to be happy that I’m the one that has to pay but as long as they are not I’m happy to support the poor.
I think the post is talking about retired people who can’t work and sometimes don’t get enough retirement money to live without worrying of paying bills or food
"Only the fittest survive" capitalism is out-of-control. Maybe we just make the meals stationary instead of cruelly forcing the elderly to chase them down?
It’s great that someone is trying to help the elderly. The challenge with charity is that it’s charity. If meals on wheels blinked out of existence tomorrow, no one has the right to expect a meal the day after. It would just suck more for a bunch of people. I think we need commitment to new human rights: among other things, everyone should have enough food. That’s the standard. If they don’t have enough food, we and that person should expect that it’s addressed.
Agreed, of course. Was just pointing out that such a thing did exist. Charities are not the most effective way to handle such issues, absolutely.
Charities absolutely rely on things like public relations and advertising campaigns to raise awareness that they exist and/or need funding. It leaves everyone at the mercy of which charity is “most popular” and if yours isn’t very popular, you could see it disappear. It also means a significant portion of the budget is spent on things that don’t actually address the real problem, which is hunger.
Yeah! Like I’m glad that Charity Navigator exists because we need it in the world we live in, but people shouldn’t have to do a lot of research to determine if their donation is mostly going to administrative costs.
You really think enough people are going to love doing septic tank maintenance and picking berries and all the other hot, painful, messy shit that people have to do to keep ourselves alive to support that? Because I don't.
Maybe when we've got amazing robots that can do all that I guess, but then we've just moved on to robot maintenance and coding. Granted more people will be ok with those tasks, but they call it work because it's WORK.
Some people genuinely don’t care about smells and such, and construction and maintenance is satisfying without being pushed to always do more with less… People do it for free all the time. Just this week, I helped my neighbor with some stuff, I like using tools and using my hands.
People literally pay to pick berries as a fun group activity. People go on wait lists for things like habitat for humanity
People like doing these activities. They don’t like the conditions of a job doing these things.
Clearly, there’s some middle ground - you don’t need the threat of homelessness to get people to work. You can make less desirable jobs well paid, let people play with the fancy power tools, or have the jobs come with social status/privileges
Obviously it’s not as simple as “hope someone volunteers” but it’s clearly not some impossible to solve problem
You’re right, it’s not desirable for people to be overworked or those who can work to not contribute. It’s also not desirable for any of these people to go hungry:
People who want to work, but can’t find jobs
People who do work but aren’t paid enough to cover essentials
People who can’t work
People
We’ve become incredibly efficient over the centuries, and we have enough for everybody to eat without overworking anyone. The issue is many people not receiving the full value of their work, while a much smaller group receive value far beyond what they contributed.
Yep and they’ll argue that they contributed their capital and took all the risk. I could also contribute more if I didn’t pay tax and exploit people and wasn’t exploited myself. Then I’d have more capital to take risk. I accept I have to pay tax and at least try not to exploit people - very hard in a capitalist/global economy
