We bought an “analog” washer and dryer for my wife and I when we moved into our first home. Hasn’t failed us yet. Her parents have a fancy set and they’ve had to get it fixed a few times already. Seems like the simpler the better for home appliances

Our dryer wasn’t working very well so we got a temporary one for $100 from Craigslist, but turns out it runs great and we have no desire to replace it.

Yes, and mortgages have obligations too, and they are generally much longer and more difficult to move away from too.

With a lease your financial obligation over the course of the contract is much lower than a mortgage.

You realize moving is a big deal, right? I could talk for 20 minutes about the challenges but the biggest one currently is that I’m extremely far from my lease’s end date.

While I agree, if that were a law, they would just get all residential property (except for their neighborhood) rezoned.

Did you know that unlike a corporation, you actually have a say in what your government does?

If they try to get an area rezoned, people can actually just say “no”.

This isn’t some weird fantasy either, it actually happens all the time if you pay attention to your local government activity.

GrapheneOS is the answer. Apps can be sandboxed away from OS. No Gapps integrated into the OS. Camera disable button if you are really paranoid.

The only thing I hated about that kinda thing is depending on the phone you lose the camera perks. If I install this on my pixel 6 pro, does everything function more or less the same? I don’t want to be taking shit photos after installing a rom

You can install the Google Pixel Camera app if you want the functionality they offer. Grant it access to network upon install, then grant camera, microphone, location, sensors, and access tp all storage or assign a storage space. Should work as you expect oyher than it doesn’t integrate with the GrapheneOS gallery app, and prompts you to install google photos. you can still access photos by opening the Graphene gallery.

Much better to just post an archive link. Lemmy’s not really big enough to garner this kind of attention yet, but copying article text wholesale is a good way to get DMCA claimed and that’s not fair to do to instance admins.
