pineapplelover, in There's some kind of use for this lighter I can't put my finger on...

I understand what they’re insinuating but won’t any regular lighter work for that purpose? What’s so special about this design?

thurstylark,

When the herb in the bowl is deep, gotta get the flame deeper, so either get gud, or burny fingy.

Like, people have been using regular lighters for this for forever, so it’s not a necessity, just easier.

ook_the_librarian,
@ook_the_librarian@lemmy.world avatar

This lighter has a stem to keep the flame from your thumb, but it isn’t obnoxiously long.

I’ll note the Bic brand is not refillable. Look for a little port on the bottom. I’ve seen some at Ace hardware.

Kerb,
@Kerb@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

its a type of pipe lighter.

To light a pipe, you need to get the flame down in the bowl.
its kinda tricky to that with a normal lighter without burning your thumb.

so over the years specialized pipe lighters emerged, that help you reach into the bowl.

the implication in the ad is, that the most popular pipes these days are not for tobacco consumption.

gila, (edited )

For when part of the herb that’s loaded in your pipe doesn’t get ignited by capillary action and you need to put the flame directly to it to get it to ignite. Since you’re trying to manipulate the position of the flame it’s easier for your fingers to get in the way. It’s more of an edge case and you can just get better at using a normal lighter, so I’d say this is just for viral marketing if it’s real

edit: and djeep lighters are better for this anyway

DmMacniel, in add finger guns for max coolness

Look upon my comments, ye mighty, and despair!

platypus_plumba, (edited )

It’s not a bigger meme because the initial image wasn’t a meme, it was a serious post. The comment was pure meme material waiting for its meme screenshot.

But yes, pretty strange he posted his own comment. Still, it’s funny.

In England the lawyers still wear wigs. You’re welcome, Lemmy. It’s just as fucking stupid as you picture in your mind.

ShortFuse,

The Civil Rights era is so entrenched in American History, I can’t imagine a Black person being forced (by society) to wear one. And yet that’s the header image from this article.

Won’t be buying any games while this is up

GregorGizeh,

Because the capitalism isn’t flavored to your taste this week? I take it you would rather throw money at the corporations when they brand their products with hammer and sickle

squid_slime,
@squid_slime@lemmy.world avatar

No I’d rather not fund politically themed marketing from any company of any political alignment

CileTheSane,
@CileTheSane@lemmy.ca avatar

“Capitalism and Economic tagged games” is no more political than “War games fest” or “First person shooter fest”.

It’s just a genre of video games that the sale is focused on.

Duke_Nukem_1990,

Or they just think the theme is in bad taste? But hey, csn’t make a snarky zinger out of that hm?

GregorGizeh,

I already did that.

By the way, fix your federation

Jknaraa,

Try some lube next time Satan.

Cowbee,

Valve will be just as Capitalist when it ends. If you aren’t okay with Capitalism for video games, or see it as a necessary evil while we live under Capitalism, you need to consume FOSS games and buy straight from indie devs, essentially.

squid_slime,
@squid_slime@lemmy.world avatar

Piracy also works quite well. But my stance isn’t capitalism bad (it is bad though) but rather that I don’t want to support marketing that is politicised.

pyrflie, (edited ) in Which pill do you choose?

I grew up in abject poverty. Going back to 6 just means another 20+ years of struggle and hardship.

10 mill means safety for me and mine for a minimum of 100 years.

Why would I take the option that includes watching friends die of lack of money all over again rather than the one that results in stability for me and mine.

Anyone who says go back to 6 comes from family money.

FellowArmadello,

That’s not a money issue. There are people from poor places that had good childhoods, such as farming families. Not saying there wasn’t struggle tho.
