GrayBackgroundMusic,

I love that video so much, lol

tpihkal,

Literally already documented and people are still asking.

nyoooom, in Paradox how could you

Have been playing all night, the performances are not great, but it’s actually playable for most people with lower settings, and the game is pretty great.

Also it’s a city builder, it’s okay to play it with 30fps in low, it’s not a FPS.

It’s CS2, not CS2.

JJROKCZ,

Agreed, I’ve played strategy and builder games forever on 20fps.

I remember playing tw:rome (1) on my xp machine at a solid 12 fps and having a blast. 60fps should be the goal if you meet recommended specs I agree but it’s unreasonable to say that anything less is “unplayable” because that just isn’t true

XTornado,

It’s CS2, not CS2.

At first I tought it was mistake and you repeated the same 😅 .

Klear,

It’s TF2 TF2 all over again.

verysoft,

I suppose we could call Cities 'C:S2' and Titanfall 'T2'?

MeetInPotatoes,

He did repeat the same. Mwuahahah.

StereoTrespasser,

The need to hit FPS targets has always been blown way out of proportion by the casual gamer. But seeing people bitch about their city builder not hitting 30+ is a new low in the chase for unnecessary frames.

good_girl,
@good_girl@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

30 is the bare minimum for any game regardless of genre lmfao. Anything below 30 gets hard to look at because of the bad frame pacing, things below 60 can still cause eye strain if you’re not used to low fps.

WhyJiffie,

If I was already playing CS1 with 30 fps in low, I guess this would be 10-15 fps if it even starts up, right?

SchizoDenji,

Also it’s a city builder, it’s okay to play it with 30fps in low

In 2007? Sure. In 2023 why should a consumer settle for 30 fps on fucking low settings?

Rose’s motivations are primarily driven by her desire for freedom and independence. She feels trapped by her wealthy but oppressive family and her engagement to the controlling and wealthy Caledon.

She’s looking for a way to escape her life and find her own identity. This leads her to a deep emotional connection with Jack. Her motivations are centered on breaking free from the constraints of her upper-class background and pursuing a life of her own choosing, which ultimately culminates in her decisions and actions throughout the film. He represents everything she’s yearned for.

    True.

    @wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world avatar

    (American)

My family is always surprised that I don’t celebrate Thanksgiving (though I do like to eat). Maybe it has something to do with the fact that everyone is Christian, right-wing, straight and hateful - and vocal about it, while I am gay, satanic, soft-spoken and not right-wing. Maybe it’s because I see celebrating the day where we ‘gifted’ natives items that would knowingly harm and kill them, and even centuries later we’d still be trying to eradicate their people, freedoms, rights, history, land…

Nah, it’s definitely because I’m a godless heathen who likes gagging on guys. Most absolutely. More gravy with your confederate flag napkins, aunty? I’m so glad you brought enough for everyone.

I don’t think the typhoid blankets your referring to (at least that’s what I assume you meant by “gifts that would harm them”) were specifically given on the “first” thanksgiving, but you’re absolutely right that it happened. Even if the first thanksgiving was 100% as advertised (which it probably wasn’t) then it was a short-lived and tiny amount of human decency in what was otherwise a straight up genocide. Nevermind that the story was more about the natives helping the settlers than vice-versa, so really we’re just celebrating the time our victims were nice to us while we were still getting ramped up on eradicating their people

    Tartas1995, (edited )

As a straight man and while I also don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, I don’t think your gayness should be a reason to not celebrate a holiday with straight people. Your gayness would be as welcome as my straightness on my table.

Edit: I honestly don’t understand why I am being down voted. Op expressed how they are straight and he is gay, as if that is the issue. It is not. It sounds to me as if they were bigots and pushy with their sexuality. They could be gay like him and they still could be bigots and making him uncomfortable with being too pushy with their sexuality. In other words, I tried to express that he should draw the line at sexuality but at bigots.

I don’t think your gayness should be a reason to not celebrate a holiday with straight people.

Their gayness isn't the reason they're not celebrating with straight people, the straight people they would be forced to share a table with are.

(I'm not trying to have a go at you or think your comment had any malice behind it, but the difference there is crucial)

    Tartas1995,

I meant that one’s sexual shouldn’t be the issue. And 99% of the time it isn’t. It is ignorance and bigotry. Bigotry towards (usually) the homosexual person and the ignorance of the bigot how much they force their sexuality on others.

    wreckedcarzz,

Moreso ‘awkward dinner table questioms’ and ‘quick glances to others’. I remember very vividly throughout my teen years that I wanted so desperately to reveal my orientation and (assuming everything went well) get reassurance and validation and yada yada. Every single time I was thinking about it, weighing the risks, someone would say some vile comment about a character on the show we had on, or a snarky question under the assumption that I shared their views, or whatever.

My parents are such a mixed bag; they can be really great caretakers, but fuck me if they can’t be the most dreadful, racist, and condescending people too. My extended family is that but even more.

I came out after a stroke at 21 that I wasn’t supposed to live through. When I did, it was in a therapy (physical, occupational, speech) setting. When my father asked me, “why [did you pick to tell us] here?”, my response was “because if you started to beat me, help is just down the hall [nurses, security]”.

It’s not the divide between who we like to sleep with, but the fact that my (extended) family has very… strong views, and it - along with my changing religious views, and other big factors - pushed me away from them, to solitude. Gatherings of people I don’t like, don’t trust, who think poorly on me because what I think when one passes, or what people and activities I want in my private spaces, enrage me deeply.

I’m glad that it’s not like that everywhere, but damn, I’m surrounded on all sides from where I stand. :(

    Gamey,

If I am not wrong decentrlization is a very old promise for that platform and not actually implemented in any way…

    millionsofplayers,

I think they posted recently they were looking to make it decentralized in early 2024

    Gamey,

If they invent their own protocol it’s probably going to take another year or two before wee see a usable implementation tho, the core components of Bluesky are closed source, well and Threads should be a activity pub app too but I have my doubts if they will ever implement it tbh!

    Omega_Haxors,

It’s for libs who want things to be marginally better temporarily rather than significantly better forever.

    nuzzlerat,

what do you mean by this

    Franzia,

The assumption is Jack will make bluesky just as bad as Twitter was before elon. But then jack and liberals didn’t see anything wrong with that twitter. So yeah, marginally better.

    nuzzlerat,

ok i see and yeah i agree to an extent. i’m assuming you don’t like the current state of twitter either? your initial comment was pretty ambiguous. unfortunately, i don’t think you can have something similar and as popular as twitter without it turning into a mess. so yeah, bluesky will likely just be twitter again but that’s what people seem to want. attempts to do something different just don’t have any mainstream appeal.

    Franzia,

Yes I hate current twitter as well, but I think I wrote off the website back in like 2018.

I dunno, its just… People who use it are stakeholders in it, too. They’re invested in having a platform that can pay the bills. Nobody seems to like youtube, but nobody is really… Quitting it, either.

    Omega_Haxors,

It’s got a lot of the same problems that twitter had before the Elon takeover. If it just ended there it would at least be a quick replacement but they had to throw in a FOMO invite system and to make matters even worse the CEO of bluesky has been sucking Elon’s toes on all his shitty decisions leading anyone with any level of analysis to see that it’s not going to be long before bluesky ends up just as bad as twitter is today.

    TheBeege, (edited )

(Edit: what I’m about to say is a good bit wrong, but I’m not going to try and hide my mistakes. This article has a more complete history: independent.co.uk/…/why-israel-and-palestine-conf…)

I don’t support the violence at all, but this isn’t a (direct) result of imperialism.

After WW2, the Allies were like, “what do we do with all these Jews? We don’t want them in our countries.” Then they thought, “why not Jerusalem?” But a bunch of Arabs were living there, but the Allies really didn’t want more Jews, so they just dumped them all in modern Israel, told the Arabs this is Jews’ land now, and recognized Israel as a state. Palestine has a right to be pissed. So this isn’t so much an imperialism problem as much as a racism problem.

But still, Hamas are evil fuckers that take shit too far. Israel definitely is not the good guy and is not helping the situation at all, but this kind of escalation just makes shit worse for everyone.

papel, in Facts dont care about your feelings.

Democracy is incompatible with power concentration. Excessive wealth easily translates into power, thus, it breaks the balance of any democracy.

There’s also a saying that “Democracy cannot exist while people are hungry”, because a common complaint is that “poor people vote with their stomachs”.

    coffeebiscuit,

And rich people with their wallet.

    Cabunach,

I don’t see what makes these things incapable of being present at the same time as democracy.

Seems like these statements are based on feelings, not actual reasoning.

    FaeDrifter,

Let me use an example. Let’s say you’re my partner, and it’s movie night. I give you a choice between two movies: Star Wars, and Harry Potter. However, if you choose Harry Potter for movie night, I will actually break both your hands with a sledgehammer.

I say I’m giving you a choice, but do you actually have a fair choice?

    Cabunach,

I don’t see how that’s an adequate example.

It seems like you’re making a bad attempt at a caricature instead of actually explaining.

    FaeDrifter,

Not even a caricature because getting your hands broken is actually still not as bad as starving to death.

    desconectado,

People choose policies that might be beneficial in the short term, but very harmful on the long way. For example, restricting immigration might have a favourable short term impact on wages, but in the long term it will stagnate the economy and pensions schemes, and make people even more poor.

So… People who are hungry will vote for whatever brings food to their table today, so they don’t really have a choice, because those policies or politicians are not actually on their side, they are just benefiting from the misery of others.

xe3, (edited ) in How I like my pi

Pihole is a great project, but it is objectively less capable than uBlock Origin.

That is not a criticism of the software. It is just a fundamental fact that DNS based adblockers are less powerful, and less granular/precise than Browser based adblockers.

They do work well in combination though (the DNS level adblockers gives you moderately effective network wide blocking, and uBlock Origin gives you exceptional blocking but is limited to the browser.

    altima_neo,
    @altima_neo@lemmy.zip avatar

At least from using both, I feel like pihole kinda sucks. It’s rather limited and breaks a lot of stuff.

    JTheFox,
    @JTheFox@lemmy.world avatar

I’m using both uBlock and Pi-Hole and I have to say that Pi-Hole is great. The monitoring features are pretty good and the ad blocking that it offers is, although way less than uBlock, still way better than none at all. It blocks most ads from the random apps I have installed on my phone and a surprising amount of trackers that are sent through my network. It also acts as a pretty good fallback if whatever I’m using physically cannot use a browser like an app or an embedded system.

For me personally I also like to use Pi-Hole for network wide site filtering. If I find a website that’s really sketchy or obviously a scam or trying to make you download malware, I just add it to my blacklist.

Of course each serves its own purposes and it won’t always be useful for everyone. I personally find the tools that it offers has a lot of benefit for what I do.

TLDR; The ad blocking, although way less than uBlock, is more than enough to act as a basic ad blocker. Not to mention the monitoring tools are an added bonus. It also acts as a great fallback if something I’m using physically can’t make use of uBlock.

    CowsLookLikeMaps,

UBlock is awesome. Pihole only really breaks if you add too many or too aggressive blocklists. The main benefit of pihole is you can block ads and trackers from any device on your network. I find the biggest offenders to be smart devices.

    madcaesar,

I’m not technical enough, but why can’t pihole do as much as ublock? It’s at the router level before anything gets to the browser, it has all the same info the browser will eventually get.

Shouldn’t it be theoretically possible to do the same?

    qaz, (edited )

    It’s at the router level

It’s a DNS server and does not have the same capabilities as the router

It has all the same info the browser will eventually get.

It does not. Not just because of the previous reason but also because most traffic is encrypted nowadays (https) which means that even the router can’t read/modify the traffic to the device.

Another issue is that some things blocked by uBlock are hard to detect with static analysis in comparison to reading the rendered HTML.

    teatowel, (edited )

uBlock has direct access to the DOM and so can modify what the browser renders. For example, YouTube ads are hosted on the same domains as their videos and so PiHole cannot block them, but uBlock can.

    madcaesar,

I don’t understand why tho, what is it that let’s unblock distinguish ad video vs real video?

    RippleEffect,

Unlock can read the code being sent to your browser and act accordingly. It’s much more granular.

Pihole can only see you’re going to YouTube.com. It cannot see what YouTube is sending you.

    vox,
    @vox@sopuli.xyz avatar

pihole does not deceypt https traffic, so it cant change dom. even if it could, it can’t modify stuff added by js.
also it can only block whole domains, not individual urls
