Sample size of 1 is not very conclusive.

I used to work as a pentester. It’s an open secret that like a good chunk of people in the industry are former criminals. But former is kind of the keyword. Not only is he doing crime after being arrested and still under surveillance, but he can’t even lie and say he won’t do it again. The kid is unhireable, at least not until he can get his compulsions under control.

@DrJenkem@lemmy.blugatch.tube avatar

I certainly didn’t mean to make any moral judgments about the kid. I’m not even sure that I think it’s morally wrong (unwise and legally wrong, no doubt, I just don’t think his actions hurt any person and I don’t care if an action hurts a corporation). The kid is clearly talented and I hope he gets the treatment he needs. I sure hope he can eventually make a living with his talents and perhaps eventually use his talents towards positive change.

Read any of her nfos, almost certain the Hogwarts one is filled with a bunch of slurs. Also the few before and after that release. Frankly, she’s probably got some mental issues, reads kind of schizo. Not an excuse but yeah…

DrJenkem,
@DrJenkem@lemmy.blugatch.tube avatar

I don’t know, lots of people deal with mental illness without being bigoted.

Well put, no disagreements here.

Worth also mentioning the Tolkien estate is notoriously letigous. There are piracy sites that specifically ban Tolkiens works from being uploaded for that very reason.

I’m not all that familiar with Debrid and you’re not exactly clear on what the issue is. But I will mention that I don’t think jellyseerr will work for you in this setup. Jellyseerr is meant to work with sonarr/radarr. It looks like to request content you have to add it to your watchlist in Plex instead.

As for VPN, isn’t the point of Debrid to avoid torrenting and direct download only? VPN probably isn’t necessary, but if you’re paranoid then just make sure only the Debrid rclone is going through the VPN, you don’t want Plex to go through the VPN as then you won’t be able to connect to it from your LAN.

DrJenkem,
@DrJenkem@lemmy.blugatch.tube avatar

You don’t need jellyfin and Plex. They both do the same thing, so just pick one.

And per the torrenting; isn’t the point of using Debrid that you’re NOT torrenting? You’re letting the service provider do the torrenting for you and they just serve up the file to you via direct download over https. And in this case, your IP isn’t exposed in the same way it is when you torrent.

DrJenkem,
@DrJenkem@lemmy.blugatch.tube avatar

Soooo whats the point of this ? Is it supposed to stop you from pirating the content from their sites . If so how exatcly when you can just literaly record screen ? I honestly struggle to understand the purpose of this.

Well, it kind of depends on the exact type of DRM being used. But yeah, some types of streaming DRM can be circumvented with a screen capture, but these will always be worse quality. There are two types for movies and shows you’ll see online when the source is a streaming site, either WEB-DL or WEB-Rip. WEB-Rip is sourced via a screen capture, I’m not super familiar, but there exists a standard called HDCP which is supposed to protect the content at the hardware/HDMI level. My understanding is this is largely ineffective as the HDCP master encryption keys have been in the public for quite some time. WEB-DL is when the raw video/audio is downloaded from the streaming provider and decrypted through some means, this is where defeating the browser-based (often Widevine) DRM often comes into play.

No, games require labor to develop.

DrJenkem,
@DrJenkem@lemmy.blugatch.tube avatar

Within the confines of capitalism I would probably agree. But under socialism, production happens independently of capital accumulation.

DrJenkem,
@DrJenkem@lemmy.blugatch.tube avatar

Even if we suppose that’s true, you’re still failing to illustrate how capital is necessary for production under socialism.

DrJenkem,
@DrJenkem@lemmy.blugatch.tube avatar

Given the context of the meme being a picture of Karl Marx, I was using the Marxist definition of capital. Marxists.org provides a pretty digestible definition: www.marxists.org/glossary/terms/c/a.htm

DrJenkem,
@DrJenkem@lemmy.blugatch.tube avatar

While certainly capitalist, Denmark and Sweden use the nordic model which tends to lean pretty social-democrat/welfare-state.

Not to mention, much of bribery under capitalist states is legalized and codified. For example, I’m guessing their study didn’t consider Super-PACs as a form of corruption or bribery. Even though that’s clearly what they are.

DrJenkem,
@DrJenkem@lemmy.blugatch.tube avatar

Lol, there’s plenty of opportunity to make money under socialism. You just have to do the labor. Under capitalism, however, there exists opportunity to derive money from other people’s surplus labor value, for example, I can pay a worker $4 to make a thing that requires $1 in supplies and sell that for $10. That difference of $5 is stolen surplus value from the laborer. Socialists seek to abolish this parasitic relationship.

DrJenkem,
@DrJenkem@lemmy.blugatch.tube avatar

Yes, that is how it works under capitalism.

Under socialism however, the state funds labor based on needs and/or desires for the output of that labor (the commodity). In this case, the money isn’t used for the goal of making more money, therefore, this isn’t capital at all. And yet, the labor happens and the commodity created. Therefore, the production is independent of the capital.

Lootboxes are legalized gambling for minors. So yeah, no shit it works. Just because a thing is profitable doesn’t make it good. The opioid epidemic proved very profitable, but just like gambling for kids, doesn’t make it a thing we should accept or want for our society.

DrJenkem,
@DrJenkem@lemmy.blugatch.tube avatar

Fair enough, I’m certainly not about to disagree on the profitability of gambling (for the house specifically).

The article opens with “what about America’s response to 9/11?”. JFC, what a shitty justification. America was clearly wrong to war crime all over Iraq just as Israel is in the wrong for warcriming all over Palestine. I refuse to “both sides” imperialists and their victims. Frankly, “both sides” is the trap one should avoid.

DrJenkem,
@DrJenkem@lemmy.blugatch.tube avatar

Yes, first was Afghanistan. But the Iraq invasion was still under the “war on terror”. Besides, I was simply referring to the author’s argument:

But he added that we had to consider what the US did when attacked on 9/11: it invaded Iraq, with 200,000 [his figures] killed in three years.

I don’t see how acknowledging that other branches of communism and Marxism exist is idealism, bad faith, or irrational.
