eezeebee, in There's some kind of use for this lighter I can't put my finger on...

I have the orange one and it’s great for candles as they get low. Never had a problem with regular Bics for lighting bowls.

itsJoelle,

People are incapable of turning a light side ways and keeping it parallel to the ground. Really isn’t hard.

Haha oh boy, I had no idea, and it took almost a day before anyone mentioned it. Now I know.

ggwithgg,

What’s a subreddit?

Dyskolos,

Ah u know… That thing. That thing that… Ah never mind.

holycrap,
worldsayshi, (edited )

The problem with these rage inducing subreddits is that they seldom seem to propose or encourage any solution or alternative. So it ends up becoming a kind of circle jerk of learned helplessness.

It seems like a common internet thing. Rage bait and learned helplessness. We learn to accept that there’s nothing to do because people and politicians are idiots because “look at all this stuff”.

And often this aligns with advertising tech because it makes us engaged and seeking comfort of continued scrolling when we get a steady stream of anxiety injections. It’s low key like an abusive relationship.

ocassionallyaduck,

Respectfully, I don’t think one can just suggest a solution to what is fundamentally problem of decades of economic propaganda and miseducation. The number of morons that believe in Adam Smith and market self-corrections like they are forces as natural as the tide is truly staggering insane, ansld is a direct result of generations of neoliberalism seeping into education.

There’s no easy solution. There’s hardly a hard solution at this point. The solution is to make memes, and to yell, and to make the issue so readily apparent it can be unavoidable and understood by these very same people let down by their education. So subreddits memeing is good, overall.

irmoz, (edited )

God forbid a community focused on showcasing a certain trope actually focus on showcasing that trope…

The old subreddit was associated with leftist political subreddits anyway, so the connection to actual discourse is there regardess

Furthermore, the comments sections always abound with discussions of potential solutions

ruckblack, in Everything I need is still in in the old settings windows that haven't changed in 23 years

It’s actually insane how difficult it can be to find settings in windows. Especially when the indexing breaks for the 1000th time and you can’t just search for it in the start menu.

BCsven,

I have a dual boot machine, windows takes forever to find sometging with or without indexing in use. Boot to linux I type 2-3 letters and GNOME/tracker index hands me files instantly. if I mount the NTFS windows partition in Linux and use the aearch in Nautilus it finds files faster than windows.

cyberpunk007, (edited )

This is the start menu experience:

“Photoshop”

*Wait 15 seconds *

“Here are some results from bing:”

😡😡

Mac and Linux it’s instant, and not some garbage AI/ads/web search results.

ruckblack,

I have no idea why it breaks like this so often too. And it’s such a pain in the ass to try to fix that I’ve generally given up on trying. At least when something very rarely happens with the indexer on Linux I know where to look to fix it.

meowMix2525,

Lol I installed open shell several years ago and have not looked back since. If I wanted to search the web with your shitty search engine, microsoft, I would have opened your shitty browser, now please sit down.

Probably shouldn’t have installed it on my work computer for security compliance reasons but it’s such an improvement in my workflow that I couldn’t not install it. Highly recommend. Legit cannot imagine using windows without it anymore. github.com/Open-Shell/Open-Shell-Menu

words_number,

Hahaha yees! The start menu search is hilarious!! You install a software, type in the exact bame of the software afterwards and the start menu search gives you the installer from your download folder instead of the installed program with the exact name you typed. The devs must have a lot of fun there. This is peak satire.

Rentlar,

Hey, maaaaaybe you wanted to search how to do that in Bing!

-Windows

lseif,

nope, they definitely wanted an AI answer.

prime_number_314159,

AI answer: Type the setting into the start menu search bar. The first result will be the setting you’re looking for.

labsin,

Especially when you start typing something and it already started searching with your partial input and you your further and notice the thing your search for is first so you press enter, for it to now place another thing first with the extra input 😡

How can “displ” open display settings, but “display” opens a help page in Edge

BCsven,

This. You seem to have to give it less. Also it is just broken. I have excel installed, if i start typing excel ( even with app filter) it can’t present it to me, it wants to hand me an ad or info page about what excel is and where to download it from

Psychodelic,

I just install list art on all my computers. I occasionally test the windows search but it fails spectacularly, 9.5 out of 10 times

Americans are so soft. You throw shade at the Europeans by making fun of their food or wine or streets or whatever. They take a shot back and you guys whine.

Take a shot back instead of flipping the table.

hyperhopper,

As an American I don’t know what you’re talking about, aside from the UK most of Europe has amazing food, and the wine there is so much better and cheaper

lledrtx,

And the streets are better too?? IDK what OP is on. Like everyone talks about how European streets are more walkable, bikable and whatnot

The UK has a Michelin star restaurant for every 360k people, the US has one for every 1.5million people.

mriormro, (edited )
@mriormro@lemmy.world avatar

It’s probably better to look at the distribution of Michelin stars in major city centers since you guys are only about 20% the size of our population (edit: and about 25% of our land area).

For instance:

Population of London = 8.982 million Amount of Michelin stars in London = 71 Amount of people per star = 126,507

Population of New York City = 8.468 million Amount of Michelin stars in NYC = 72 Amount of people per star = 117,611

Fades, (edited )

You can’t even prove that’s true about a majority of Americans yet you talk about it like it’s fact

Also I like how you equate memes on bad food/wine/infrastructure to the memes of school shootings and mass death. Totally tit for tat right?

dfc09,

Americans: “Your accent is funny and your food is bland.”
Europeans: “Well at least children aren’t dying in our schools. At least we don’t see street memorials on television every other week. Haha, owned.”
Americans: “…”
Europeans: “See it’s funny because people are dying and voters are powerless to stop it”
Americans: “What the hell man”
Europeans: “Wow, you guys should seriously get some thicker skin”

hdnsmbt,

You are not powerless to stop it. Who is telling you this and why do you believe it? Your group is much, much bigger than the one who fucks everything up. Go out and show them! Nobody is telling you to get thicker skin, they’re telling you to get off your ass and get angry about it.

AVincentInSpace, (edited )

Nobody apart from the guy I’m replying to, of course.

And everyone who downvoted my comment.

And for the record we’ve been voting. We’ve been protesting. We’ve been trying to get the rules changed and we’re getting stonewalled by the 50% of the population who only listen to media that makes up reasons for them to hate things that would be good for the masses because it would be bad for a few people at the top and I’m sick to fucking death of people making fun of us for not trying hard enough and treating actual dying children as some sort of own.

Hey that orphan-crushing machine is a constitutionally enshrined right. I have the right to mount that thing on wheels and drive it around to crush up orphans wherever I want!
