My driving instructor told me about a Czech guy who drove to Germany to have fun with his expensive car. He reached well over 300km/h and the local government pressed charges. They claimed that although there is no direct speed limit, drivers are supposed to drive at reasonable speed given all circumstances. But because the man made sure to drive at 4 in the morning on the middle of nowhere all charges where dropped.
330km/h is the sound barrier. Sooo you can legally break the sound barrier on the Autobahn.
This is false. Sound barrier is an aerodynamic effect that affects vehicles at speeds close to the speed of sound in air, which is slightly above 1200 km/h (at sea level, normal temperature and humidity).
In a similar situation, someone drove about 400km/hour (I think) I believe for a video.
Charges were pressed, but because he posted people at bridges and regular intervals to assess and communicate the situation, the judge decided he took reasonable precautions and the charges were dismissed.
They’ll probably get here eventually, if they’re not here already. Granted it’ll be harder for them to control a narrative, but they’ll probably try with bots/paid commentors and complicit moderators.
That can still happen, right? Is there something special about the fediverse that prevents those methods from being used to manipulate the user base’s opinions?
Brazil is far from lawless. In really small communities 12-year-Olds are driving scooters without wearing helmets, sure, but in all Metropolitan areas laws are pretty strict and there are expensive fines.
I’m embarrassed to say that it never occurred to me that I could turn it off! Now that it’s off I wonder if anyting changes. It seems like it’s wrong more often than it’s right, but that could jus be confirmation bias.
i guess, but only as much as any other oligarchy. you can have democracy where the only people who can vote are people with doctorates in stem fields, or who’re land owning white men, or who have their patents of nobility, or who have at least a million USD in their bank account. but really it’s not particularly in keeping with the ideal that people are usually talking about when they say ‘democracy’.
A technocrats actually makes sense. But that isn’t practical. People always at some point end up hiring their friends and putting people they know in positions of power. Nepotism and cronyism are just natural progressions, even when systems of governance start out with good intentions. Eventually someone always ruins it for everyone else.
Where the bad guys are the CIA or FBI and they are being hunted down for overthrowing a government, there’d be a world of different locations and endless sequels.
Such a masterpiece comedy. My favorite part of that O.J. Simpson scene is while getting shot multiple times and injured, he gets paint on his jacket and says “Oh no”. So silly, but I love it.
