systemglitch,

Tell me you loved Cities Skylines without telling me you loved Cities Skylines!

Yeah it’s a real shame, I’ve been following this as well.

PraiseTheSoup,

Wow, what an obnoxiously worded comment.

systemglitch,

Followed by a completely useless comment meant to stir up negativity. Well done.

Caboose12000,

what went wrong with cities skylines?

JoeBigelow,
@JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca avatar

The new one runs like hot unoptimized garbage I think

SwampYankee,

It’s really not that bad. I run it with the settings maxed at 1440p. I’m guessing my framerate hovers around 30, both above and below.

R9 3900x & 3070ti - my machine is above average but nothing crazy.

SchizoDenji,

30 fps on 3070ti is shambolic.

sheogorath,

TBH it’s not really the end of the world. I remember the first one running like hot garbage on my PC. Granted maybe it was my shitty CPU being FX-8320 at that time.

On my machine I got around 40-70 with the default settings. For a city management game having a stable (meaning not crashing) game would be its first priority. Although I definitely see this as an early access release regardless of what CO is saying. So I played this on my Game Pass sub. My regional pricing for Game Pass is really good, as converted to the dollar is only tree fiddy. Although the minimum wage in my country is only 1/4 of the US so it all adds up to the same I guess.

SchizoDenji,

Mate, if you’re paying 50$ and have a really good PC, the base level competency should atleast be that the game runs. Let alone the quality or content.

Stop excusing the inexcusable.

sheogorath,

I’m paying 3.5 USD to play this game. So my standards might be lower than those who had paid the full price for this game.

SchizoDenji,

Yeah but that doesn’t make the criticisms invalid?

sheogorath,

That doesn’t make the criticisms invalid. But, there’s always an option to vote with your wallet by treating this release as an early access and not buying it with the current condition and with full price.

Most people lambasting the game makes it seem that they HAVE to buy the game with the current condition no matter what. Just file this game as a play in Game Pass or buy it next year when there’s a sale. If more people skip from buying the game at full price the devs will get the message and will try to release the game when the game is ready to be released like Larian.

I actually do this by buying recent Larian games (D:OS, D:OS2, & BG3) at day one or close to it after the review embargo is lifted (to see whether it’s worth buying or not) to reward them releasing their games in a complete state. Even BG3 had some issues with performance and cut content with their 3rd act.

SchizoDenji,

I actually got a refund for it. I usually do as you said for most games but the goodwill of Paradox and the excitement for CS2 got the better of me.

systemglitch,

Bad release for #2. Hopefully it gets sorted out, but I don’t think anyone expected a launch this bad.

EngiNerd,

Yo ho, yo ho a pirate’s life for me

Blackmist,

I don’t think that will fix the performance issues either.

I think I’ll just play the first one or Tropico.

emanresu,

This is why we still need demos

bitsplease,

You basically get them through Steam - 2 hours is generally enough to figure out if a game is a total ripoff or not

wildcardology,

Piracy is the demo version for me. I pirated cs1 until I decided that they deserve my money.

Pinklink,

For me it was fucking Void Train. I just want a new Raft okay??? And that’s what Void Train was supposed to be!!1

Oka,

On paper, void train was exciting, but not in execution.

theletterw,

Makes me think of the Spore hype train…

ChrisLicht,

Spore early game was fun.

FMT99,

Except like the rest of the game, way too shallow. The idea of it was amazing though.

Ethalis,

Honestly the endgame was pretty fun as well on face value if a bit barren, it’s the midgame that was super disappointing to me. Overall it’s a decent game imo, it just set expectations way too high and couldn’t deliver

DragonTypeWyvern,

I thought the endgame was terrible, and I’m all about sci-fi. Just never been one for “wow look at this randomly generated content!?!?”

Honytawk,

Meh, the end game was boring and tedious.

Mid wasn’t as great but at least it had content that wasn’t so freaking slow.

The start, that is where it is at.

Illuminati,

“You get what you fuckin deserve!” -Some sad guy idk.

circuitfarmer,
@circuitfarmer@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

All they had to do was throw it in Early Access while they fixed it. The reviews would likely be stellar in that case. Releasing it fully in this state just feels like some corporate BS. Disappointed in dev and publisher, and they keep making it worse with their weird excuses.

“Built with modern hardware in mind”, homie this shit ain’t even running right on a 4090. And 30fps target? Idk what they’re smoking.

JustZ,

Runs fine for me. Reduced some settings. It’s a game built for the best right now, and for the future. Lot of potential.

ArmokGoB,

Almost every game has potential.

Nacktmull,

Maybe don’t jump the hype train every time and instead choose to play proven and established games from developers who are known to deliver quality, which exist in abundance?

PraiseTheSoup,

Paradox is known to deliver quality.

Nacktmull,

I see, then my criticism excludes Paradox and is obviously misplaced in this particular discussion, my apologies.

ultrasquid,
@ultrasquid@sopuli.xyz avatar

I heard someone on Discord claim that the depth of field dropped the performance significantly, and they could run it stable once they disabled it.

SchizoDenji,

Stable at 30fps?

HerrLewakaas,

More than enough for a top down strategy game. Why are you so obsessed with 60 fps in a game where nothing moves fast and reaction times dont matter

jimbo,

Because the higher FPS look nicer and we’re talking about something done for no other reason than for enjoyment.

good_girl,
@good_girl@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Eye strain

ILikeBoobies,

Cap your fps if you don’t want it jumping around

good_girl,
@good_girl@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

It’s not about the fluctuations lmfao.

ILikeBoobies,

Then you aren’t going to experience eye strain

good_girl,
@good_girl@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Oh sick thanks yeah i needed someone to tell me my own experiences.

ILikeBoobies,

Okay, as a quick test

Look at a slideshow, and go to the next slide once per minute

Now go to the next slide every second

You’ve just simulated low and high fps, which one is harder?

good_girl,
@good_girl@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Is this a bit? I’m telling you low fps are hard on my eyes, I don’t need to simulate 1fps vs 1fpm to know that.

Plus there’s a vast difference between 15fps vs 30fps+ and 1fpm vs 1fps.

You don’t have to eat the slop served to you, demand better.

GreenMario,

For me it’s smoother camera panning. I just love that 60+fps feel when you move the game camera. Silky smooth.

SchizoDenji,

Absolutely. If I’m spending my money on a game and running it on an above average hardware, the bare minimum I will expect is to atleast run smoothly regardless of features or quality.

The bar is so fucking low.

ExistensialDread,

I’m still excited for cities skylines to release for real this time

Zellith,

Cities skyline 2 performance is pretty bad from the stream I was watching. HOWEVER according to this review by Wal Der Qual if you set the dynamic resolution to "constant" you will get an FPS boost. It helped the gal on the stream I was watching anyhow. I cant speak for their other suggestions as they didnt get tried on the stream.

IzzyData,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

Dynamic resolution? So it is going to bring you down to sub 1080p in order to run at a decent framerate? That doesn’t seem worth it.

christian,
@christian@lemmy.ml avatar

I remember thinking that surely Duke Nukem Forever would turn out awesome once it’s finally finished. After seeing the reception I just decided it wasn’t worth checking out.

teichflamme,

Tbh it wasn’t that bad and had some pretty fun moments.

Klear,

After the hell that was its development, the game was surprisingly good.

BTW isn’t there a project to finish the original vision of the game? That I’m definitely looking forward to.

TesterJ,

From what streamers have said, turn off V-Sync and all of the depth of field options and your FPS should vastly improve.

ultra,

Most of the reviews are because of bad performance, but a friend told me FPS massivly increases on medium settings. They just defaulted to high for some reason

misterwu, (edited )

Well yes the Performance gets better on Medium. But the problem with this game is that it’s not optimized at all. The devs basically admitted it even before launch.

Edit: someone did a deep analysis on the games rendering system.

HerrLewakaas,

The devs said they couldn’t reach the level of optimization they were aiming for in time for release. Would you rather have them release the game a month late or play on medium for a month. I know what I prefer. You don’t know what you’re talking about frankly when you say its “not optimized at all”

misterwu, (edited )

Yeah I know exactly what im talking about. Leaving aside that I myself do Vulkan c++ programming and know what proper graphics optimization looks like, im also a gamer. I can run nearly any new AAA+ game on ultra settings with 60+ fps on my rig. Cities skylines runs with 20 on Max settings, 30 on high and 40-50 on Medium. Saying that cs2 is not optimized is an understatement. Stop shilling shit products.
