Pretty easy given that the Oopma Loompas literally just throw in nonsense words to make rhymes. The real issue is that it’s so many syllables that it would occupy almost an entire line of the song on its own.

Fair enough, not going to force you. I am working on a custom domain but it takes a while with the provider I’m trying to use. And for all wondering, the URL I provided passed the safety URL safety check wit 0 detection’s (source: urlvoid.com/…/pigedove-lemmy-clone-u9568.vm.elest…)
Since the URL is pretty vital for federation (users from federated instances would follow for example !main@pigedove-lemmy-clone-u9568.vm.elestio.app in order to join a community), it's probably worth getting the domain up and running before you start federating anyway. Even though it's a frustrating wait for sure!
I think there's potential for a bird instance - I've heard rumours the birdwatching community is pretty active over at Mastodon.
These are supposed to generate an instance agnostic link regardless of who clicks it. That means they’ll go to their instance’s version of your page, which means they can subscribe or whatever with their logged in account. Rather than going to an entirely different instance, then having to manually search for it in their own instance. However, the caveat is that not all apps have adopted these links - they work on the website, but not all of them work in Jerboa, for example.
There’s also @user@instance, this doesn’t automatically make a link but if you start typing it (on the website) then you’ll get a popup window with usernames. When you select this you’ll generate the code @user@their_instance. This links to the user’s instance, not the viewer’s instance, but it also sends a mention to the user. So if you reply to another user and mention them, they’ll get a notification. I think you can also fiddle with the link text with like [link text](https://their_instance/u/user) and it should still send a mention, but haven’t tested it.
Yeah but kbin has fallen behind on development. The sole dev has been having personal issues, which is understandable, however the project really could do with more imperitive behind it. Someone forked off and made mbin, but so far that’s just diluting things.
I think lemmy is where it’s at. The core devs are questionable (certainly one of the original duo is, the other is maybe more diplomatic) but ultimately it doesn’t matter who the devs are but specifically what code is put into the instance you use. The devs design the machine, but it’s the instance admin who build it, and ultimately the instance admin is who you’re putting your trust with.
It fell behind, it's started up again and I'm loving the improvements. I'm.on .social so Ernest is kind of the instance host as well as the dev. I do trust him, he's cool.
When I first joined it wasn't even federating and we had constant Cloudflare challenges. I'm patient.
Besides, I have accounts all over the fediverse if I feel like it. Lemmy still doesn't feel right to me.

That doesn’t even make any sense replying to me so I don’t know if you were replying to somebody else or what. If you use an alternate front end, there are way more features or if you use an app there are way more features. Do you understand what I’m saying? There’s some very unique projects out there.

Hey what front end do you recommend? Need a clean minimalist interface that can block instances, block specific websites, and I like to see names of users who upvoted/downvoted, and keep notes on users.
I will be using kbin as my main but I'd like my lemmy stuff to look a bit nicer.
I’m not sure that any can block instances until the 0.19 update, but I suggest Photon, Alexandrite, or Tesseract. Tesseract is the most feature packed. App suggestions would depend on which OS you’re using.
I also think Kbin is way ahead of Lemmy in terms of integrating with the Fediverse at large. It's not perfect for sure, but in my opinion it builds on a better starting point. The real test of Mastodon integration for me will be when Mastodon finally introduces groups - it will be interesting to see how they integrate with communities in the Threadiverse.
I honestly also struggle to get an overview of what's happening in Lemmy development, to me Kbin seems more transparent. But both platforms are obviously fine, and Lemmy is still more mature for sure.
yeah that URL is terrible, I use ionos in germany for a lot of domain name reg, maybe they will suit your needs too.
I'm self hosting a mastodon instance (my 1st ruby on rails and wholy fucking shit is that bloated compared to django) and it took a while for my instance to get into the federation, now I see all kinds of fun stuff and have total control
I've run into some issues with federation posts filling the /media directory but it seems to have been sorted out now.

Yeah I’m just completely unable to parse it. Also searching for the URL doesn’t come up with anything, and it isn’t yet in the lemmyverse.net or anywhere else. Elestio is a developer platform, you’re running a virtual machine, and it’s a clone of something else. All of that leaves me a little wary.
Frankly though I think users should be far more wary of the instance they use. The fact is, you’re placing your faith entirely in the instance admin - just because it says Lemmy v0.18.4 doesn’t mean that’s actually what the site is running. I went for lemm.ee in the end because the admin really seemed to know his stuff.
VM is just the best way for me to run it as I’m not ultra tech savy

The clone is because the first version of pigedove didn’t work.
It is less then a day old, obviously not enough time to get on there.
Elestio is just the easiest and best way to run it for me aswell.

For me, it’s usually for passwords that I have in my muscle memory. I’ll typo, instinctively reach for backspace, and continue typing. As soon as I think about what I just wrote, no chance of continuing.
Of course, the password being in muscle memory also means continuing typing, even if it ends up being wrong, is basically just as fast as deleting the password.
Have 48" oled as my main monitor only 2 1/2 years old and 4500 hours, no burn in yet but tbh my last lcd monitor burned in quicker (was an ultrawide had a line down the middle after a couple years from split screening windows). When It does I don’t think I’ll mind, was the cheapest upgrade from my last monitor with all features I wanted
