I have no other explanation of how us kids managed to play in tall grass and woods all the time, and never get bug bites. We picked up the occasional tick, but it was the dogs that the insects went after, not us.
Ugh… Went to an outdoor swimming pool this spring for the first time in years. Decided to dry up in the sun instead of toweling off. Laid down in the grass for 10, maybe 15 minutes, got slowly covered in ants. The next day I discovered I had a tick. Took me a while to go swimming again…
I was took my friends to see this for my 11th birthday (I had already seen it, thought it was the best thing ever) and all three of them fell asleep before the end. Today I have no friends.
Rising from my nightmares, i see that scene. Blinding, searing reality cuts through my consious thoughts; it had always been there; waiting for a spark. A fungal web of neuronal links itching to infect and consume. Unavoidable and inevitable.
